A blind would be a good option hunting with your daughter. Once you use one and have sucess you will wonder why you didn’t get one sooner.

Its really misleading how it’s worded.Another part of me thinks it says that if you want to go season D-H there’s a quota and you have to buy your license in March if there available yet?

Rabbit distress and mouse squealer on the e-caller at first light works best for me.I have called them in as late as 10a.m.You most certainly can call yotes across open ground and they don’t always come in down wind.Avoid being skylined. They are totally unpredictable.Just have to get out there and do it,trial and error. You will have lots of at bats but when you have that first one come in you will be hooked. Good luck

I prefer autos and use the Remington 1187 Super Mag. Reasonable and comes tapped if you go that route.

I have very good luck with fox urine.I swear by it. Many times deer will follow your trail right to your stand being curious.

Steve,I would just apply for a Zone 9 license.Only an hour away, you get your feet wet for Iowa and there’s decent bucks there too. Southern IA gets all the press but its along ways for you to go and realistically how often would you get there to bow hunt and $$$ to boot.Gun hunt would be different.Good chance you won’t draw this year, then you get your preference point and save $50. If you draw, great. There’s very good state land in NE IA that does not get near the pressure as MN,especially bow season. I’ve seen state parking lots empty during gun seasons before. Muzzleloader in NE IA is tough. It’s late in the season, cold, and deer are herded up and on high alert. If IA would ever do the NR early muzzleloader THAT would be the real deal. PM me for ?? and maybe some starting points.

Good info ,thanks. I have a lead on a Rock River from an Iowa Source with apparently no markup. In the meantime I will use the mini and .243.

Interesting topic.I used to group hunt(no dogs) but now I prefer to call predators and it is much more fulfilling. In most areas now its all overrun with large groups with 6-8 trucks, radios and AR-15s. Vehicles are running up and down the roads, radios going and guns blasting. The groups I see go anywhere, shoot anywhere, park near buildings and hunt windbreaks without a thought of livestock and disruption. Then they parade around with the yotes on there rooftops like there some kind of heroes. Is this really ethical and good for the sport of hunting? Pretty disgusting in my book.

Jury is still out for me on APR.Personally I have seen more bigger bucks before it was in place but it could be luck or in the right place etc.I think a landowner should shoot whatever they want on there own land and am leaning towards a QDM. Also I think an elderly/senior person 70+?? should have no resrictions. Having grown up in Iowa I think an easier solution to APR as mentioned above would be to move the season back 2-3 weeks in the southern half of the state. You would have bigger bucks and let everyone shoot whatever they want. Depending on how much you do I find an electric smoker to be much easier to use and easier to control the heat. Personally I think Cabelas smokers are overpriced.My.02

I buy the cheapest hamburger I can find, usally 80/20,its usually about the same price as beef trim from the locker so you extend your meat plus you got the fat. Then I mix it 70/30. I found pork doesnt keep as well.

Now the season is open and deer are on the red alert they are very nervous and nocturnal depending on your area and pressure. Sometimes I find sucess out in the open instead of the woods. Fence lines that connect areas are good, grassy sloughs, abandoned building sites or if your lucky to find big bales in a picked cornfield I sit against one and have had deer walk right by you with confidence. Good luck

So the fall MN season runs Oct 1-30th? If you buy a license now,is it good immediately or is there a grace period? There is not much fall turkey info in the MN hunting reg book. I’ve been seeing quite few big toms the past few weeks.
