Two down, none to go!
Son shot a 26lb bird with 1 1/4” spurs last week. (He had a good guide) and I got one with my crossbow yesterday with a Texas heart shot.
Both birds came from behind us and walked within 5 FEET of the blind on their way to our dekes.
Gonna fire up the smoker soon!
Turkey. And with no grass growing yet, easy pickin’s for coon skunk and possum.
Had a Jake a Tom and a hen 75 yards away and didn’t like what they saw. Anyway, I would have bet money that this “warm” spring would have no affect on timing however I have never seen this the third week of April!!
Holy sh-ice-ter! I will admit, that video terrified me. Never thought of it because I always have seen/envisioned “clean edges” along open water like that, but man! Those large slabs of ice he had to maneuver through were crazy. I think I’d want a bigger boat!
Google “fll near me” call them and have them email their license to your seller. They will ship your firearm to the ffl. You meet and do the paper work/back ground check and usually pay $20. Easy.
GF got a striker suit for 200$, I got a new pair of climate bibs for 40% off. Did buy a few packs of Beavertail baits, we’ll see if they catch fisherman or fish
Hmm. I’m in a similar situation. What suit and what vendor? Thx!
Hey all, following up on this thread. It so happens that the only daytime pic that I have of a target buck named DoubleWide (mentioned above) was taken the day after I tagged out on the 9pt (subject of this thread) and went home. 6 years of hunting this buck. 100’s of nighttime pics since 2018. No one I know has ever seen this deer. I’ve talked about him with my dad for 6 years. I saw this buck twice last year, including once at 32 yards with no shot during bow season (I was cool as a cucumber until after he bounded off and then my steel ladder stand was shaking so hard I thought for sure the straps would break!)
But I digress. On Veteran’s Day 2023, one month after my dad passed away…DoubleWide screwed up. I swear it’s because it’s the only way my dad could have been with me. Parkinson’s had him and wouldn’t let go. 10 minutes after legal I layed down two full minutes of hard rattling followed by 8-10 grunts (I lost count). Every thing was wrong about this morning, not the least of which was wind direction. Two minutes after I put my call away, DoubleWide ran past me at 20ft and full speed!! Up comes the muzzle loader as I knew he would eventually stop in my open pasture somewhere before he hit the wood line 125 yards away. He stopped cold, broadside, at 60 yards. Steaming, and soaking wet from running through frost covered standing corn. And he was pissed! I have never heard a deer make the sounds he was making. Within 2 seconds of his stopping a cloud of smoke blocked my view and this 6 year hunt was over. 100’s of hours on stand, passing on many nice deer, waiting for him…it was done. I still can’t believe it happened. And I’m thrilled my dad was there with me.
It was never about the 22” inside spread with DoubleWide. He hung at 290lbs two weeks into the rut. Now what!? I kinda miss him…
Glad it ended the way it did! And you of course already know this: you 100% would be liable, at least civilly, if this had gone another way. Right or wrong, your firearm.
My son and his buddies were hunting public last fall in IA and found a Super Black Eagle in the ditch next to the parking area/gate. They were standing there googling a non-emergency number for the sheriff when a guy came crankin down the gravel…a cold sweat on his face. A quick hand-off and he was back on his way. Same deal: left a loaded shotgun on his tailgate.
I’ve been thinking of doing this and after your experience I am going to add a small yellow rubber knob to the top of my tailgate so I can constantly see in the rear view that it is closed. Thx for the motivation!
Side note: Anyone know how to “bypass” the low battery voltage auto protect on an inverter? I get why it’s there but I think it drops out at too high a battery voltage and I want to push it lower. (Ie in the middle of a pod coffee brew it shuts me down at 10.5v and dam it I want that coffee!)
I am using a Bestek 1000W inverter.
Never been interested, but I think I’d go for this one. Not sure where…? Arm?
Amazing, and disconcerting, quite honestly, how many people I’ve shown this to that don’t know the context. What is happening to our world??
Steve…I know you get it! Sing along with the family…
Let me try this again.
I have seen .300 Savage ammo at FF and Scheels recently.
I also found it on numerous web sites. And yes? It was .300 Savage. Is it expensive? Yes.
The .300 Savage is not a plinking gun so whats it matter. You’ll shoot what 20 rounds a year? Or 40 or 60?That type of shooting does not justify reloading.
You don’t just sit down and start reloading. Not if you want accurate results. It’s time consuming and unless you’re going to do a LOT of it, buy it retail.I appreciate that insight! Thank you.
Are these not all 4WD? Guess I always thought so. How else do you “climb out” once you’re “in”?
And thank you for the sage (Grouse, sorry) advice. I’ve many times thought about reloading brass and being able to shoot my Uncle’s rifle might indeed just be the launch pad. (I have named calluses on my fingers from reloading shotgun shells, or at least I did back in high school gun club!)
Another hobby! Awesome!
Id greatly appreciate it. Plenty of 300 blackout, and my goodness a full wall of 308. Had no idea that was so popular, but found it interesting.
Was at fleet farm this morning, in the parking lot when I first posted. They checked the inventory system and no (zero) stores had 300 savage. But I’m sure it does indeed come and go. (Also overheard a conversation between a customer and two employees that frankly “brought me great pause”…topic was 9MM ammunition. I’ll leave it at that.)
I appreciate the offer DB, but this rifle is a family firearm. And I am honored to keep and use it until I can no longer. It’s an early model Remington 722 with some stories (and photos!) from/of my uncle.
Yeah but used to be a pretty cool thing!
Been working on my dads jacket from high school. 50 years of mold and mildew.
We worked on quite a bit of the lighting. Took this photo on March 26, 2015 while we were on site for a mock up.
Lucky dude. We were fishing out of trappers and had to run to Walker this morning. Guys at the store told us the driver popped out the window, stood on the door and jumped just before the truck dropped 20ft. “He says he will never drive on ice again.” I can understand that reaction!!
Then we stopped at Reed’s. Tellin ya, love that store. Got a small town feel even though the store is huge. At least 8 different employees said “good morning, can I help you find something” when we walked by. Shouldn’t be so note worthy except every single one of them sounded sincere!
We are seeing a lot of these types of pics the last week or so.
Yes nice crappie! We are out and finally brought one topside at 4:50AM. Moon super bright all night.
