December 21, 2021 at 6:40 pm #2083421Decided im going to give St. Germain a try over New Years. Im now trying to decide wether to bring the snowdog or my ATV which is a sportsman 1000 and weighs about 3X the snowdog. From the little information I come across it sounds like the snow has melted and the ice conditions have improved and will continue to do so. Are there any locals that could give some insight and opinions on how conditions are looking? Don’t have any particular lakes picked out yet. I realize every lake will vary just looking for some in general conditions. I prefer to bring my ATV if possible.
Our company is working north of Minocqua, and we had 5″ of light fluffy snow today. We could see guys out fishing Lake Minocqua this morning and after work, didn’t see any atv’s or snowmobiles out. I was checking Trout Lake last saturday, but it still had areas of open water near the islands, I did venture out a ways, but decided again going out after the ice was less than 3″, but this lake and Fence are usually the last to lock up being so deep. As someone else mentioned call a bait shop up there, you’ll get some good information. Good luck !
December 9, 2021 at 7:04 pm #2080424Beaver Dams are the gold standard in my book, I have 3 from the 80’s that work great. Anyone heard of or tried a Bloodknot tip up ?
December 6, 2021 at 6:15 pm #2079530I live in the Tomahawk area, we got 9″ here Sunday, I’m not sure how much they got. A few co-workers were out fishing Saturday, and they said there was 4-6″ on the Spirit Flowage west of Tomahawk. It’s going to get -10 to -15 below tonight. I would suggest visiting the Lake Link Wisconsin Fishing report page, type in the lake your going to, you may find a current report, and contact a bait shop in town, they may help you too, good luck. I was out 2 weeks ago and caught a few walleyes, only 2 1/2″ then.
November 25, 2021 at 7:04 pm #2076595Seen a guy out on Lake Alice, had tip ups out. I checked a spot fish often Wednesday, had a couple inches just off the dock, but got to be less as I went, will check tomorrow, with predicted lows near zero here in Northern Wi, should be able to fish tomorrow
February 19, 2021 at 7:34 pm #2016354A few years ago I was tip up fishing for walleyes, and seen a fox come out on the ice across the lake, suddenly an eagle swooped down at, the fox hightailed it to shore, the eagle still after it. The fox made his escape, pretty lucky.
January 24, 2021 at 3:39 pm #2008940I had mine rebuilt two years ago, mine acted similar, if I run it on half choke it doesn’t miss a beat. Don’t have the heart to retire the old girl.
December 22, 2020 at 6:24 pm #1999703I’m south west of Eagle River, you should have no problem, plenty of ice up here. I was scouting out Trout Lake north of Minocqua, and that is ice cover now, and that a big, deep lake. Lots of UTV’s, and 3 wheelers out. Good luck !
December 20, 2020 at 6:44 pm #1999011One thing that may help you is to go to Lake Link and check the Wisconsin Fishing Report, and the bait shop will help you out. I was in that area today, Trout Lake, just south of Boulder Junction, that has just ice over, great walleye, whitefish lake. Good luck !
December 19, 2020 at 4:43 am #1998596You may want to check the Wisconsin Fishing Reports page, they talk about Hayward area lakes, good luck !
December 6, 2020 at 4:32 pm #1994626Got out in the Tomahawk area, first time out, slow, one small walleye

February 14, 2020 at 7:57 am #1915164There are area’s in Wisconsin where you can fish walleye year around, check your regulation book.
February 3, 2020 at 7:11 pm #1912299Check Lake-Link Wisconsin Fishing Reports, you may find info. there
January 27, 2020 at 5:47 pm #1910225I have one from the mid 80’s, 24:1 is the ratio, still has the sticker that states that. I don’t have the heart to replace her.
January 24, 2020 at 7:09 pm #1909558Nice 23″ as the sun went down, quick picture and back she went.

January 18, 2020 at 8:12 am #1907218I took a drive last weekend up north of Minocqua to Trout Lake, lots of guys fishing for whitefish, brutal wind that day, glassed one guy sitting way out there on a bucket.
January 10, 2020 at 7:29 pm #1905235Lake I fish in the Tomahawk area has 9″ of ice as of last saturday

December 28, 2019 at 5:13 am #1901098I will be out for the afternoon walleye bite, sounds like a mixed bag of weather here, snow/freezing rain. In years past, I’ve done very well in bad weather, maybe again. Good 9″ of ice where I fish, a bit of slush.
December 3, 2019 at 6:27 pm #1895124Tomahawk area has ice, seen two guys out on Lake Nokomis this afternoon, lots of snow here though, I’m betting they are fishing Lake Alice too, but I haven’t been over that way to see.
November 26, 2019 at 5:11 am #1893403I drove by Big Arbor Vitae yesterday, there was a group of guys fishing, maybe 12 of them, like was stated above, right off 70. I’ve never fished it. Good luck !
April 9, 2019 at 6:56 pm #1849552Lakes are closed, but some rivers stay open year around for some gamefish, walleye and northern, muskie is closed. You have to look in the regulation book to know where to fish. Not a lot of people know this, I usually have the area I fish to myself, most guys are in boats now, fishing below the dams for walleyes.
April 8, 2019 at 6:16 pm #1849259I was out Saturday in the Tomahawk area tip up fishing for walleyes, still 24″ of ice.
January 20, 2019 at 4:53 pm #1827849Where I fish, first ice seems to be the best, but I’ve had some good luck fishing later in the season during snowstorms, or weather change.
