I don’t have a single fawn on my camera. I’m getting between 900-1500 pics a week and no fawns. My neighbor does have a pic of a coyote carrying a dead fawn. I’m getting several different does on camera, so am pretty concerned to not have a single fawn.

The 19pitch spitfire is actually a smaller diameter than the 17. I’ve found that I get the same or even higher rpms with the 19 than the 17.
September 23, 2021 at 8:02 am #2062890Had pics of this one with his twin all July long, then August he disappeared for 3 weeks, and now he’s been back pretty regularly. Now, just to be in the stand at the right time.

September 9, 2021 at 10:07 pm #2059640I know the guy who owns the company. He tossed my son a bottle of the scent one day. My son used the scent on his blade bait and caught fish.
I’m terribly allergic to willow cats, so I do use the plastics from time to time. It is a very soft plastic, but I’ve found that using a smaller jug to keep the bait moving and out of the rocks is key. I also like to throw them on a heavier jig and run then like a swimbait.
The leech plastics are very good. They move like crazy, and can be used under a slip bobber. I don’t use bobbers often, but they’re a great option to have in the boat, so I don’t have to remember to pick up bait for the once or twice a year that I actually fish with them.
June 1, 2021 at 2:06 pm #2040146My fishing time has been severely limited these last few years. I’ve gotten to the point where I fish so little, that when I do go, I no longer have the drive to grind it out and go find fish away from the crowds like I always used to. If I’m only going to actually fish once a month or so, I want to go where I know I can get some numbers (don’t even care if I keep any).
Trying to remember why I liked it so much in the first place, and have some success to bring me back to it if things ever slow down. That being said, I don’t know that I could do a 4-5 day trip any more being away from it for so long now. 2 days would be about the cap until I get back in the swing of things more.
September 22, 2020 at 8:11 am #1974483Tuo on Amazon are great knives as well. I just got the 8″ chefs knife and use it a ton. $29 for a quality knife that I’m sure will last a lifetime. For a free bucks not, you can get their damascus pattern in the same knife
March 16, 2020 at 4:21 pm #1923588First was the noodle rod I made off of a BassKhang blank. Completely changed how I ice fished, by not using a spring bobber any more, and having one rod that could handle tiny tungstens up to smaller spoons. I plan to make a few more for next year.
Garmin Striker 4, put on a genz box. Not the highest end unit in the world, but has accurate gps, lightweight and a fast/adjustable ice mode. You can occaisionally find that unit for about $80-$90, and with a small piece of pvc, can easily use the supplied trandsucer on the ice. I set my son up with that setup last year (before I switched), and mounted his striker 4 to a plastic ammo box I got at harbor freight, that worked out well also.
The one other thing I did, minor but helpful, was put those clamps that hold brooms on walls on both my genz box and my sons ammo can flasher setup for both the PVC setups on transducers and to hold a rod while carrying the setup.
March 10, 2020 at 8:04 am #1921549If you want a bait specifically designed with Erie in mind, check out the Walleye Nation Creations Reaper. 24′ with 125′ of line is what the precision trolling ap says. I’ve only ran them 17′ down on Pepin, but will run them on Erie this year hopefully. I follow these guys on facebook, and there are pictures out of Erie all the time.
March 4, 2020 at 1:58 pm #1920083A 4 blade prop on that 115 will help too. I have a 125opti with a spitfire 4 blade. The hole shot is great, which is what you will need with a heavy load and/or towing sports. Ask your dealer about 4 blade props with that setup and see what they have to say. The smaller diameter of several of the 4 blade props today negate a lot of the top end loss that used to be seen by going with 4 blades.
March 4, 2020 at 1:51 pm #1920080I’d for sure put a tip up on the flat right between the two humps to start with (natural funnel, and between two desirable pieces of structure). Then jig up and down the breaks of both humps until I saw where I was getting the most lookers.
February 27, 2020 at 10:41 am #1918458I’ve been on both sides of this. I was always a spring bobber guy, but built a basskhang panfish noodle this year, and haven’t missed the spring bobber a bit. I can see up-bites without issue.
Having gone without one for a year, I don’t know that I’d like to go back.
February 24, 2020 at 8:03 am #1917481Wildlife jerky fixins is very good. About the only pre-packaged seasoning I’ll buy.
February 18, 2020 at 1:52 pm #1916217The social media craze hasn’t helped either. Every sports parent, wants that profile picture of their kid with a 1st place ribbon etc… To some parents, and kids, that’s the most important thing now days.
February 4, 2020 at 4:07 pm #191253517 years at my company.
4 weeks vacation, 9 holidays, 2 flex days, 3 floaters, and accumulate sick time up to 540 hours. I’m at 300+ hours of sick at this point, but would lose it all if I leave/retire. We are not allowed to carry any vacation time over, use it or lose it. That usually leaves me burning days around Christmas to not lose them. Will move up to 5 weeks of vacation at 20 years. New hires get a better deal though, they start at 3 weeks, I didn’t get that until year after the 5th full year. Lots of benefit changes for the new generation, trying to stay competitive for young talent.
January 19, 2020 at 8:14 pm #1907760We’re more active on Facebook these days. Shoot a membership request and I’ll accept it right away.
January 14, 2020 at 12:36 pm #1906188My 8 year old did a show choir camp last year. I was shocked at how insane that was even. Parents screaming, wearing shirts with their kids names on them. These parents were more fired up than any of the crowds at the state basketball tournies we went to. They go to competitions all over the place (several states away).
Thankfully, she only did the local show, and hasn’t really expressed interest since.
January 14, 2020 at 10:13 am #1906137I have a different situation going on. With my son (8th grader), there is school basketball and travel tournament ball. He’s played travel ball since 4th grade. He’s not the top player, but he’s in the top half skill and production wise.
He either floats between A and B, or starts at point guard on B. Which is fine, but where the issue comes in, is travel ball. We had 7, yes 7 dads coaching our boys in travel ball. Out of those 7, I would say maybe 1 of their kids is in the top 3-4 boys playing on the teams. However the kids in the middle of the pack are the ones who suffer in this scenario. Play up on A every other tourney, then go lead B in scoring and rebounding the next week.
The one thing I asked for at the parents meeting last year was some consistency with coaching. I asked that the B squad only have 2 different guys coach them in tournaments. My son played 6 tournaments last year, and had 5 different head coaches. Anyway, state tournament comes around, and 10 kids can go, all of a sudden, the talk we heard all season about the best players going to state stops. All 7 coaches sons magically make the team (one who scored 7 points total in his last 9 games of the season, 6 of which were B games).
My son skipped tournament ball this year, and played school ball. Now, he gets to ice fish every Saturday instead of sitting at tourneys for 8 hours. it’s unfortunate that he had to learn about nepotism and cronyism at this age, but he’ll end up all the better for it. As for tourney ball this year, they went from 22 kids, down to 14. The record has went down, and the better players who aren’t sons of the super dads are not happy.
This is a case of adults not remembering what youth sports is about.
January 13, 2020 at 1:27 pm #1905892If I had to guess, I’d think it’s probably a black max 19 pitch. That’s the prop the 115-125s seemed to have come with most often.
November 4, 2019 at 10:38 am #1888754The other thing about buying unlocked, is you can pick and choose what you want. When I got my X4, I got the android one version, and I love it. This is as about as close to pure android as you can get these days. No bloatware or carrier specific apps that I can’t remove.
I only got the 32mb version, but another positive of motorola phones, is that they come with a SD port. I put a 128gb micro SD in, and have all of the storage I’ll ever need.
November 4, 2019 at 7:52 am #1888698Total Wireless. Bring whatever phone you want, or buy an unlocked one. I bought an unlocked Moto X4 and love it.
We have 4 lines (on the verizon network), unlimited talk and text, unlimitted data (first 100gb are lte, then it slows down, but we’ve never even come close to using it). With the auto pay, we pay $95 a month.
October 24, 2019 at 1:24 pm #1886722Been on Hulu+ for 2 years, and pay about what Matt does. About $65 for internet, and about $45 for hulu. We had a landline too, which we moved over to magic jack (small kids in the home yet), that was $35 per year.
We went from about $220 a month to $115 or so per month (including the magic jack).
We also moved over to total wireless from verizon about 2 years ago. We saved about a hundred a month there to be on the same exact network too.
September 18, 2019 at 8:17 am #1879715Yep, lower pitch gets you the hole shot and more rpms, higher gives you less rpms but more top end speed. It’s ok to be near your 6400 limit, but you don’t want your rpm alarm going off all the time either. I would be willing to bet that a 19pitch spitfire is going to be the all around best aluminum prop for your rig. You’ll be upping in pitch, adding a blade, but reducing diameter a little bit to keep your rpms up.
I’ve seen that prop perform incredibly on 115’s in boats in the 17-18 foot range. See if you can find a shop that will let you test one, I bet you’ll see an immediate difference, and keep your hole shot too.
August 28, 2019 at 8:09 pm #1876300I head one for a few years and loved it. Easy to set up, leveling it was the hardest part. I stored mine outside one year, and in a barn another. My family outgrew it it I’d probably still have it.
I liked to sleep on the couch folded out to a bed. Most comfortable spot for whatever reason. The other big plus was how light it was. I think mine was around 3000lbs.
August 20, 2019 at 3:02 pm #1874666It all really depends on what kind of water you’re trolling. As Phoyem said, outside rods should be your shallowest.
As a general rule, most #5 cranks get about 5′ deep with 25 feet of line, and
8’around 75 feet of line. #7’s usually run about 10′ down at 60′ 12 foot around 90 etc… Strain the water column.Part of the point of having boards is to present baits at different depths until you find what works.
