Appreciate the input! What sort of presentations are working this time of year up there for smallies?
Thanks for the help Jake! Appreciate you reaching out directly.
Yup, I talked to Doug and he was great. He said there hasn’t been a lot of people out in that direction, from the west landing ,so was just throwing another feeler out there of maybe someone that has.
Haha….that was on accident. I showed as if I didn’t have any loaded so I went back in to edit the post and add again. Then all of a sudden I have 19 pictures.
If you want the easiest rod holder to get a rod out when a fish is pegged, buy a Folbe. I’ve been using them for 10 plus years. Do a quick google search and see why the cool kids are using them…
I’m more concerned about the plastic holding up when a big fish smokes it.
Deepest weeds you can find, preferably cabbage. Leeches and minnows. You’ll catch a lot of fish that aren’t walleyes, but you’ll get more <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleyes than you’d think.
Lindy rigging? Spinners/bottom bouncers?
3 weeks ago I was catching them pulling leadcore just off the edge of structure in 25 to 30ft of water. Wasn’t great but we had league out there so that was my backup plan if nothing else worked.
Any colors that were working better than avg?
James did a good comparison video of ice defense vs nothing vs aerator bubbler…
I have about $8 invested in this and it works.
Hey Pessimist, any chance you have a supplies list for that?
Thanks!
Lowlight / overnight is typically best on Leech.
Thank you Mr. Holst!
What do you recommend for live bait options?

Trappers Landing I believe has some rentals, and J&K Marine rents Yetti’s I think. Or at least used to, we stayed in them one weekend and it was great.Roughly what’s the cost of a mid-sized Yetti for 2 people?
I’m seeing $150/night in where I’ve looked.
Still available? Sent you a message
Sent message back. Sorry for delay.
Kyle, I’m interested. where are ya located?
I’m located west of the Twin Cities. PM me if you want more details or wanna chat.
What don’t u like about it? I’m asking because I’m curious. Been thinking it may be handy
The technology was great, just wasn’t fond of having to take it in and out of water every time I wanted to use it. I have the Ulterra, so its not possible to mount it to trolling motor.
Its essentially side imaging that refreshes every so many seconds. Nothing wrong with technology, I just didn’t like manually putting in and out of water.
Some more information about what kind of boat, the layout, size, etc or a photo would help.
2020 Alumacraft Competitor 175 Tiller.
I use a Frabill net holder works good .
Thanks for the insight. Sorry should have been more clear.
I’m less concerned about what to use. More of where to keep it out of the way as much as possible.

Chubs are $5 for a scoop and medium suckers are $12/dozen at Trailside Bait and Tackle in Isle. Not sure how many exactly a scoop gets you with chubs.
You’re referring to fatheads for $5 a scoop. Yes some bait shops do call them chubs incorrectly.
The chubs referred to in this discussion are redtail or creek chubs. They are a large river minnow that regularly sell for over a dollar a piece.
Thanks for the correction. I thought that was a bit weird.
Johnsons has a creek mix, $12 for a dozen, might give that a try.

Not sure if you guys know who Spencer Samplowski and Eric Haataja are? Both tournament anglers and guides. They did the live bait vs artificial experiment few years ago on Mille Lacs for smallmouth. You can go to the end of the video when they do a wrap up on the day. I think they said it was something like 75%:25%, live bait : artificial.
Thanks Besox for the info. Can you provide any other details of things you would change, wish it had, wish it didn’t have, etc?
Thanks again!
I’ve seen other reports that fish are not far under the ice. That’s common as the season warms up and things begin to melt and they move up preparing to spawn. As ice melts, its bringing fresh oxygen into the lake. Where do you think that oxygen is located? Up near the surface.
Thanks Bob. Out of curiosity what’s avg ice thickness? Need an extension?

What poundage are you using for a fluoro leader and how long of a leader?80# fluorocarbon. 3′ in stained water. Maybe a little longer in really clear water.
What your setup be for walleyes for line poundage?
Thanks again!

Hey guys,Looking to pick up a couple ABF reels for dead-sticking. It’ll be used for a mix of walleye and pike dead sticking. My main concern is will the ABF-20 hold up for pike? I know an ABF-20 will do fine for walleyes. Possibly bump up to the 30 or 40?
Thanks for the insight.
All I’ve ever used is the ABF20 when chasing pike and we’ve been fortunate enough to land our share on the plus side of 40 inches. I’ve always used 30# braid when targeting pike and that reel has always been up to the task.
Thanks James for the insight. What poundage are you using for a fluoro leader and how long of a leader?
Thanks!
