So my wife and I got back from our trip to Sand. We ended up using a technique used by a guide who took us to Round because the water is a bit more turbid. Fished 6- 12 foot weeds with little joe type spinner and fathead for a mixed bag that I translated to the clearer water of sand just found deeper weeds Our target was walleye and perch. Caught 4 walleye at 20-21 and several under the slot to eat. Bonus fish was a 19 inch lb smallie and several perch 12 to 13 in which is a good fish anywhere! So all and all fishing a brand new spot was a pretty decent outing. ( even caught a 6 lb bowfind). It was pretty exciting because when I realized it was fighting me like a walleye and not the usual pike run i told my wife “this is the walleye we have been waiting for”. Ha …but no it came into the net smiling and barking!! Thanks to all who helped me get excited about fishing northern Minnesota instead of our fly in canada trip.

I am assuming you were rigging crawlers, any luck with leeches? Jig and minnow bite still happening or is that just dessert for the snakes? Did you find any crappie at all? Any body throw tubes for smallies? Man, I’ve got too many questions.

    Thanks Mojo!

Thanks for these replies! I’ve got the “week before” excitements goin strong. Tackle all over the house! Won’t have the 100 lb flight weight restriction so the whole Honda Pilot will be filled with gear! If any of the rest of you have wisdom about Sand Lake, my wife and I will be there the 27th. Tight lines
