I think that deer looks pretty young. I want to guess 2.5….maybe 3.5 but only way to tell for sure is to shoot him and age him.

I wouldn’t call him a cull buck quite yet either. Just a shot in the dark here.. I’m guessing that he is developing like that because of some type of injury internal or external. If you don’t want to shoot him let him go and see what happens next year. I had one last year that was worse than that. He didnt do much except a double brow on his right side but he had a typical good looking rack on his left. I have a deer this year that has the same double brow on the right and I am pretty sure that it is him. No one shot him last year and its the same property. I like to look at bucks that are 6 pointers at 3 and 4 years old as cull bucks. Get them out, or small 8’s at 3 04 4. Anything that can put on length and mass and over 8 points I would keep around, you may have somethig fun in a few years running around.

Here is the deer I speak of:

Been seeing deer in the soy beans as well but not that heavy for me yet. Over the years I have had best luck mid-july and on. I usually start seeing the mature bucks show up in daylight towards the end of July and well into August.

    Again –

My money would go on the beans. Corn isn’t quite ready for the deer until later in the year and then they will change over to eating the corn BUT anything is possible. Glass from a distance or trail cams, find out what your deer are doing. Always hunt a stand for a reason, not just because you think the deer are going to be there. The more you prepare the better your results will be!

I love watching little bucks on camera! The worst part about it is when you find out your neighbor is shooting them. I had one last year I called Mr. Perfect. He was a beautiful main frame 8. He was just perfectly symmetrical but small. This deer had potential to be something special and then I think about Nov.1 I found out one of the neighbors shot him.

Ya did not see a list. They have a list of it at scheels i have looked at it But its a lot to type. maybe if i go back up there i will get one and put it on here.

Let me guess.. Over loaded with calcium. That never ceases to amaze me…. Here, lets give the deer copious amounts calcium and they will grow bigger antlers.

I took a look at the site and I found it interesting that there was not an ingredient list…. Deer mineral and mixes, this is a pet peeve of mine. Its such a mess out there what we have on our shelves. I could go on and on and on but I will save you the rant.

I’m actually floored that some people think that rubber boots cause more odor than help.

There is nothing getting in or out from that boot unless its escaping out of the top. If that is your concern use some duct tape to seal the boot. Nothing is breathing out of the actual boot and the boot is not absorbing and scent. If you think or feel that your boots have some how absorbed scent then wash them off and keep them isolated until you use the. A good spray down with Xecute will do the trick.

That is how I look at all my clothing. If you were to put it in water and it absorbs water then it surely absorbs scent. The best thing you can do is keep your clothes CLEAN and keep your body cleaner and put on scent free clean clothes when you hit the woods. Also, if you find the right scent killer spray they can truly help. Don’t buy into DDW and their enzyme talk. The enzymes they use are very unstable. In a stable controlled environment they do actually work but the second that stuff is bottled and goes on a truck ride you can be pretty darn sure your buying water. Sorry DDW.

But anyways, thats my 2 cents for what it is worth. I want fall to get here!!!

I’ll give you my opinion. Its sounds pretty far fetched. Just look at the whitetail cycle in a more simplistic approach. Dominance always wins. Look at any area where you have a dominant buck living, once he is gone another moves in etc..

I think the best way to look at it is from a habitat standpoint. If yuo build it they will come. Keep deer on your proerty by providing great bedding ground and good food.

is it for fun or what are you doing it for

It is for a whitetail hunting show. I have two people who film with me already but am looking for more. Its next to impossible to find someone that is willing to hunt everyday of the season or be out there to some extent so I need 3 or 4 people that can split time. I am looking for someone who takes hunting serious and enjoys being in the woods. Someone who takes their scent control serious but understands the wind. Someone who is willing to sacrifice some time behind the bow to film. All my camera people get involved as well. Once we are comfortable and you are comfortable you are usually welcome to bring your bow and get some shooting in as well. That is my offer up front, access to new property in possibly the Taylors Falls area, Red Wing area and Metro only when you are with me. Looking for clean, reliable, professional people. Serious inquiries send an email.

Carry a few rocks in your pocket. Throw the rocks at them, they will never know where it came from or what it was. They will be clueless.

not going to say the “L” word

Well I don’t think not saying it will change anything… it happens every year

A buddy watched a large 9 point make 2 scrapes near a food plot this eve. Big boy showed up at dark and they were stuck in the stand. Continued down and walked right under his stand.

Looking forward to a morning hunt tomorrow.

I guess I have to disagree with you guys. I have had great deer activity the last two weeks and it has been staying consistent. Now the tactics I was using three weeks ago are not working and I actually lost some deer but a closer look at what is going on with the changing food and the patterns I relocated my cameras and everything seems to be looking good. I have some great deer moving during light and all my 2 1/2 and younger bucks are still cruising at all times as they have been. Now, if I were to watch a soy bean field or one one of the alfalfa fields I would see something different as I did a few days ago. I did see one of my best bachelor groups still out there at roughly the same time but a lot of the younger bucks came out later and didnt stay long. I did see more does. What the bucks in my area seems to be after is apples and acorns. The cams I am running now are targeting routes to those areas and they are plenty busy

I guess I will give a short intro as well….

The name is White Oak and bow hunting is my life. Started bow hunting in 99 and haven’t ever looked back. Stalked a doe on my first hunt ever and that feeling of my heart coming through my chest is one i’ll never forget and its a feeling I still get every year. The day it loses its thrill is the day I retire the bow but can’t forsee that coming anytime soon… What else is there to say? On September 19th find an oak tree!!! A white Oak tree!!!

    Give craigslist a shot.

I second that suggestion. I picked up a good running, used FL-8/SLT for $150 last year.
