I am lucky enough to live 2 hours from Sag Bay. Fished it lots from a boat but this year was the first I felt safe getting out to the walleye grounds on the ice. Sag bay is pretty shallow for it’s size…it was a 6.5 mile run to 24fow for me out of Linwood. There are soooo many eyes in that system, min length is 13″ and with a daily bag limit of 8 it makes for good fishing. Here is a pic from my 1/26/18 trip…eye limit plus a 12″ perch and a white bass. Largest eye went 23″.

Just added a Okuma Ceymar C-10 to my UL Inferno last night, rod has a soft tip and seems like a good backbone. Ice is forming in West MI now, so won’t be long until I get this thing out for some real world testing.

Took delivery of my UL Inferno yesterday, seems like a well built mass produced rod. Personally I wish the cork handle was a tad longer as I tend to NOT use a pistol grip, but for ordering a rod sight unseen it will be fine. Now to pair it up with a reel…Hmmmm????

Pulled the trigger on a UL Inferno without seeing one in person. Shipped to store (Cabelas) delivery late next week, which means 2 or 3 weeks..lol. I figured what the heck.

Has anyone had the chance to actually touch/feel these rods in person yet? Got some Cabelas’s bucks burning a hole in my pocket. If so…thoughts?

I bought one when they first came out and I do like it a lot. Yeah the gearing to rotate the camera is a bit weak but it works for what I use it for (heard a rumor that they changed the parts after the first year…can’t verify though). The range it advertises is a bit optimistic. Per the Google Play Store there are only 1000ish downloads of the app to run it, so unless lots of people are using Apple products to view it I don’t think it’s a very big seller…hence I doubt if app improvement is high on their list.

Also make 100% sure the device you are intending on using it on will work with the unit…my Samsung tablet works just fine but my Samsung Note4 phone does not work with it. Why??? I have no idea.

1/7/2017…This is how we do it in MI..LOL. Seriously though the pilot made it out ok and was quoted in a later interview as saying “I figured the ice was safe because there were ice fishermen on the various lakes”….not too smart.

I have used both the Clam & Eskimo anchors….Eskimo anchors IMO are far superior in how fast they go into the ice and ease of doing so by hand.

Mine seems to do the same thing…but only on vertical zoom. Anything less than 6fow or so and the vertical zoom “flashes marks” and shows depths much greater…it goes in and out, one second it’s fine the next it flashes interference for 2 seconds or so. I have the normal circle flasher on as well and that shows my jig & correct depth without any issues at the same time. Like I said it seems to be associated with the vertical zoom only as any other setting the “flashing” does not exist. Weird???

I should add that with the latest update I can see my lure much higher in the water column when fishing shallower water…night and day difference from last year. )

I hit the gas lever/throttle a few times before the first pull…other than that I do the same as stated above…always has started quick.

My update….used my LX7 for the first time with the new update. In 7fow I could see my small tear drop jig much higher than before/years past…like others have said you have to crank the sensitivity…I had to go to 18 to 22 to see the jig, cone angle made no difference and that’s with the ducer barely under water for best results. However…as the morning progressed it seemed that my lure “visabilty” got worse….took a look at the voltage meter, 9.9 and dropping…end of the day it said LoV…so I ordered a new battery. Almost 3 years on the stock battery…thinking that all will be fine once I can keep the voltage up. Tight Lines All!

x100 on the Eskimo anchors…Clam anchors are tough to get in by hand…night n day difference with the Eskimo’s.

I am looking forward to the weekend to test the update on my LX7…I fish a lot of 6fow…previous years I can’t see my jig/lure until it gets about 4.0′ deep…meaning I have a 2.0′ viewing “window”. Tried every setting and every depth of ducer and that’s the best I could do…hoping I can see more this year.

I picked this box up for my spoons & jigging raps…http://sportsmensdirect.com/shop/tackle-storage/sdi-spoon-box/
double sided and you can fit any size rap in there upside down. The only thing I couldn’t get in there were my VMC rattle spoons…they are too thick, but with some xacto knife modification to the foam slots you could get them to fit.

Lake Gogebic is HUGE…besides the rocky shoreline/drop offs it’s one big mud flat. Their is a Clam Pro that guides up there Jon Sibley…google him for his guide service, I would suggest a guide for the first day or so just to get a feel for it. There are several lodges I know of on the north end that you can stay at in Bergland, MI. You will not catch 100 perch a day….this lake is not a numbers lake. You may only catch 10 perch all day but the odds of one being 2+lbs is pretty good….locals call them Teeter Pigs (they don’t fall over/teeter when you lay them on their belly’s on the ice) :). Their is a decent walleye population but as said above they aren’t huge. Best time to go is mid Feb/March…you will need a snowmobile as the snow can get very deep and render a quad useless…unless you have tracks on it.

Those rubber bungees are crap….The coldsnap is great but if your on a budget and have a auger smaller than 10″, simply cut the bottom off a empty jug of bleach (or similar sized jug)….drill 2 holes on opposite sides and attach to auger with a small bungee cord. Bam!

I got a white pair off Ebay years ago…local surplus stores wanted way too much for them. Do get them 1 size smaller than you normally wear, and if your a “big guy” get them in a W(wide) size..helps for extra sock layers as well. I usually wear a 13 but my White boots are size 12W, and fit perfect.

Striker had a 30% off/free shipping sale this summer…which I took full advantage of. New Hardwater suit hanging in the closet with the tags still on it…..can’t wait to use it. Buddy of mine will be on season 4 with his, they are super warm.

Isn’t the initial over priced cost similar to all other new technology? Flat screen TV’s started in the $3k- $4k range, as I recall./quote]

LOL…true story….Senior Trip May 1996 to Chicago, some store dtown had a TV hanging on the wall (no one had ever seen this before at the time)…prolly a 36″ish model of whatever brand….Price….$19,999…I KID YOU NOT. Anyhow the RT-9 looks cool, but would love to demo a “buddies” before I made that upgrade.

Just bought property on the bay this fall. Cant wait to use it!!

Hey Andrew….I’m in Grand Rapids, MI want to be my new best friend? LOL. I only got out on the Bay once this past summer in early July, did pretty good threw back a lot of shorts that would now be keepers with the new regulations.

….I have had issues with my LX-7 in which the depth bounces around. It mostly happens in auto-range. When I switch to manual range, it seems to help.

I too have had this same thing happen, mostly in the summer when i’m running the trolling motor ducer on my LX-7….I now NEVER run my unit in auto-range which seems to have fixed my freezing issues.
