I tie loads of hair jigs for the Mississippi river for the spring and fall walleye fest. I most commonly use dyed bucktail but fantasy fur or craft fur is also an option. I think the fur is easier to tie but the bucktail has better action in the water. Of course I like purple black, blue, and green. But mostly purple. Add some tinsel and some eyes along with that red thread and you have yourself a work of art. It pays off and feels good when you pound fish on your own poured, painted, and tied jigs. I also make stinger hooks for these jigs too.

Ultra carrier 8. Abrasion resistance of fireline with the smooth casting of nanofil. I like it but i couldnt find it in a high vis color.

March 27, 2019 at 3:24 pm #1846383Im talking pools 8 and 9. I see Redwing is up in “major”flood stage but these southern pools arent forecasted to be in “major” flood stage (whatever that means). The difference in these stages varies only 1 or 2 feet on some pools. Either way, a flood is a flood and considering all the input I have recieved I will make the right choice. I appreciate everyones insight.
March 27, 2019 at 12:36 pm #1846328I appreciate everyones input. I did not intend to turn this into a pissing contest. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
Now, while caution should always be used while boating, does anyone change their mind if the river is forecasted to be in minor flood stage compared to major flood stage? Just looking at the hydrograph from the ACOE. FYI this is not pool 4.
May 24, 2018 at 7:21 am #1776588Agreed on the 39 hours!
Also agreed on the Gillespe factor in the next bite. What’s with the cackling laughs and the mass hysteria when a fish enters the net?
May 24, 2018 at 7:10 am #17765841- uncut angling- doesn’t relate to me as much but Aaron does some ridiculous and awesome stuff. So entertaining!
2- IDO- awesome show every week. Up to date scenarios. Wish the would do the spot on the spot id every week still.
3- Fish Ed- very realistic show.
4- The Next Bite- very good explanation on tactics and gear.
5- Larry Smith Outdoors- kinda goofy but relates most to me.
February 14, 2018 at 2:06 pm #1752386I just bought an ice pack for my Lowrance elite 5 hdi (locator for my boat). Once you dial in the settings, I think these units have far greater target separation than any flasher
January 8, 2018 at 2:35 pm #1742292Used the unit for the first time yesterday. I don’t think I will ever use a flasher again. I tried the split flasher and switched to the sonar zoomed in on bottom within minutes. I was fishing big gills hugging the bottom in deep water. This unit had great target seperation and showed the reaction of the fish better than any flasher I’ve seen. My eyes finally won’t bugging out from staring at a blinking dial all day. Plenty of awesome storage in the ice pack also! I really recommend this set up but with that being said…anybody want to buy a Marcum?
January 5, 2018 at 2:40 pm #1741689i used to wear sorels too. I still have them and use them for bumming around outside or shoveling but if im going ice fishing i will usually bring my baffin titans now. Super light, tall, and very warm. Also waterproof. Only issue is they are a very large boot so it can be a struggle getting them under bibs but its doable. For reference i wear a size 10.5 Wide shoe and i purchased size 12. Perfect fit
Baffin titan hands down.
Boom. Exact same
January 5, 2018 at 7:16 am #1741564Good stuff! Thanks for the help! I hooked mine right up to the unit. No adapter cables needed. I was confused and anxious because the manual said I would need adapters if I had a unit with blue connectors. Now to dial in the settings.

Baffin titan boots, good wicking sock liner and good wool socks.that’s it right there. exactly my setup. Basically though choose your boot (the titans are a good choice) and wear a sock liner and good wool socks.
Same. Baffin Titans and wool. No sweat no cold. Even when I’m working hard pounding holes. They are a little bulky but they are way lighter than Mickey
Mouse boots.June 29, 2016 at 7:01 am #1626869I looked at it last night and found some corrosion on the rear bulb.Cleaned that off and the white rear light ended up working. Went to check the front red/green and it wasn’t working. Checked the socket. No power to the socket. These are both the plug in style lights. It wouldn’t be a switch if it works one way but not the other, right?
February 29, 2016 at 8:07 pm #1603217It is the fl-8 with the foam float, not the arm. Just bought a new foam float but ended up taking it off since the transducer wire had to be hung on a specific spot on the side of the hole to see anything. I make sure that the transducer is below the bottom of the ice and I am usually not fishing current while on ice. Batteries are pretty old so I might try a new one. Thanks for the input!
May 27, 2015 at 5:51 pm #1547304Thank you gentlemen. Didn’t expect a response from the main men but your input is definitely appreciated!! Can’t wait till season 10!
