The whole harbor is full ice again now. 90% skim ice and chunk ice. There’s a small area that guys are still ice fishing. There were two portables out there yesterday. Heard there was 16+” where the portables were
There’s been a good amount of people chasing loopers up and down the shore. I would guess it’ll be a couple wks before the rivers open up. We got two steelies last wk fishing for loopers from shore.
Can’t speak exactly for the squaw lake area but a little ways east of there the snow has settled quite a bit. Slush is hit or miss. A week ago it was almost snowmobile only. After the warm weather this wk truck travel is becoming an option. Temps this wk look good for continued ice fishing into April.
X2 of badger. Advancement in all aspects of fishing = more people enjoying the resource as it’s meant for all. IMO limits in most places could be lowered across the board even more than they have. A lot of people don’t have a lot of time to fish so the fish they catch they keep based upon limits set by state guidelines.
Not yet. A little tired of the brutal cold but beggars can’t be choosers. I enjoy popping a bunch of holes and bouncing around for the day. Ice comes and goes so fast it feels like it’s here and gone in no time.
Clam rattling blade spoons gold/pink 1/8 or 1/16 oz have worked for me in the past. Tingler spoons perch 1/8th oz work good on sunny days too. Can’t really go wrong with a few Lindy rattlin flyers in the box either. Pink, orange, red, are good Mille lacs colors in my experience.
I was just talking to a buddy today about that and said I’m only going if I know it’s safe I’m not gonna be that guy that makes the news getting pulled off on an air boat and that’s the best outcome if something bad were to happen. Saturday and Sunday there was a lot of ice out there and then poof Monday a lot was gone. A person really has to pay attention and fish when the time is right. I’m definitely not in a rush. Going to mg tomorrow to look around and bs with them guys for sure.
