Predator is for sale. Selling because I don’t need two red suits.
November 26, 2019 at 7:59 pm #1893625but..but…but… they don’t make them any more. They’re a collectible!
[price corrected]
July 10, 2019 at 12:18 pm #1866822Caught a big flathead a few weeks ago and parked on shore to revive it… Released the fish, looked up and this giant, furry $#%^ head was staring me in the face less than a foot away — about 4.5″ wide.
If that never happens again I’d be just fine.

June 7, 2019 at 3:10 pm #1861055That model year is notorious for keypad/brain box issues. Unfortunately there’s not much that can be done other than buying a replacement — Best to give Ranger Parts dept a call. They’re very helpful.
April 25, 2019 at 12:02 pm #1852948I run a 5/0 on every tear drop from 1/16 to 1-1/2 oz for pitching plastics, running 3-ways, etc.
Netted a lot of eyeballs this winter that loved the 1-1/2 oz. Sometimes it is the size of head they care about.
For some smaller applications I’ll downsize the hook to stock size.
2c
Enjoy.
5/0 on a 1/16oz head… I like it!! I’ve poured 3/0 [1/16] and a 4/0 [1/8] but never the 5/0 [1/16] combo. You should post a pic FBRM
March 15, 2019 at 11:26 am #1843481I’ve snapped two rods casting into the wind with 832 and with a wind knot wrapping around the tip while floating down the river pitching to rip rap — Jig get hung up with no time to react and “down she goes”.
If you like Fireline, you’ll LOVE Ultra 8 Carrier. It has fireline strength and is almost as smooth as nanofil.
Daiwa J-Braid X8 is identical to Berkley Ultra 8 from what I can tell, and can be found cheaper at some stores.

Aaron Drier, what kind of case is that? That’s an Eagle Claw.
Everyone have a fun, happy and safe 2019 using their short sticks; may they be from China, Edina or truly custom, made by a guy named Taylor!
BtW, anyone see the St Croix Custom Ice series on sale yet? I want try some without busting into my Livescope fund.
No you don’t…. “tubular blanks” belong in a boat, not on the ice.

November 29, 2018 at 12:08 pm #1813569Ice fishing is now a game of “best marketing wins”. Product quality is going downhill in favor of making cool videos and promoting the heck out of them on social media.
If their product is half as good as their marketing they will thrive.

if not please keep negative comments to yourself. What kind of jigs are you selling that require a disclaimer like that? I went from hey what’s this for sale… to guess I’m not interested… You might catch more fisherman with honey?
Maybe there’s a past here I’m not aware of but either way why bring it up to tarnish this thread? Good luck with the sale.
Might be in your best interest to educate yourself on the product before you slam the poster for his ad. Mike is exactly right — There is a lot of forum slamming from the competition.
The fact is, no one makes a product like Kevin Brantner….. No one.
October 29, 2018 at 3:25 pm #1806513It’s similar in price and name but not reality. St. Croix makes really nice high end production rods. They do not have anywhere on their website where you can choose your handle, your colors, your taper, your length, your guides, or any number of other factors that go into a truly custom rod.
I can call TUCR, Thorne Bros, DH, JT’s, Infinty, Pierce, Kraemer, or any other custom shop and tell him I want a 40 and 1/2 inch light action rod with 5 inches of hi vis yellow on a extremely fast tip and they’ll CUSTOM make it for me and it still probably be less then $140
Sure about that? I know of one company for sure in this list that will not do what you’re asking.
As a custom rod builder myself, it’s sad to see companies devaluing the word “custom” for marketing purposes. And flat-out disrespectful.
$0.02
July 31, 2018 at 10:35 am #1788552It has characteristics of both — This is now my favorite line to use. 6# for pitching light jigs, 8# for heavier presentations. It’s expensive, but worth it IMO.

JT customs makes a new 8’ trolling rod for $220 now designed for this it sounds like.“For years elite caliber anglers have asked for a high end trolling rod design to better read the action of a trolling presentation while enjoying the qualities of a rod engineered for absolute precision. Now that piece of grass on the back hook can be detected to ensure your running clean and effectively.”
You’re honestly claiming that it’s possible to detect a piece of grass on the rear hook of a crank with these rods while trolling leadcore?
Relax, I never said I used one. Noticed a quality rod company putting out a high quality trolling rod and assuming it would fit the bill.
How many more posts until they put you on prostaff and make you a “small business owner” though?
April 30, 2018 at 7:32 pm #1771584Not much help here but following… Have to replace mine as well. In the research stage and will let you know if I find anything.

JT Outdoor Products JTX 6’8″ would be hard to beat. It is a ML. If you want a true medium, the Black Reign will be out in a couple weeks, and that will be a medium. The JTX is every bit as good as the Loomis NRX and is half the cost. If you have any questions, let me know. I’ve sold off all my St. Croix and G Loomis (including 2 NRXs) and switched to JT rods. No, it isn’t. If I had a dollar…………………….
personal preference. In my opinion, I’ll take 2 JTXs over one NRX any day of the week.
Does personal preference have anything to do with getting a 30 % override for each rod you sell? MLM @ it’s finest.
JT’s are Avid X quality at best, and I’ve fished them both.

March 23, 2018 at 10:45 am #1761916Ultra 8 — as the name indicates — has 8 strands but is advertised as a fused fireline. It has a larger diameter than fireline and Nanofil. Definitely stronger than Nanofil, I haven’t tested it against fireline side by side. It is very quiet, even with Recoil guides. I tie the improved clinch knot with all types of line and have not had an issue with it, using 12-14 turns.
8# (3# diameter)– I fish 8# fireline so figured that would be ok in the Ultra 8 as well. I will say that the 8# feels closer to 12# strength. It’s a little stiff but casts very, very well. Very hard to break. Better abrasion than Nanofill, not quite as good as fireline IMHO. It has some texture when running your fingers down the line which causes more friction, similar to Power Pro.
6# (2# diameter) — This is the perfect weight in my opinion for pitching jigs, blades, and casting cranks. It’s silky smooth, much like Nanofil and extremely strong. I can’t think of a scenario where this would NOT hold up with a typical spinning rod and normal bass/walleye/panfishing tactics.
Overall, I am very happy with it although it’s expensive. My only complaint is that they don’t have the hi-vis orange or green out yet. I bought mine at Scheels which only carried crystal and black.
March 6, 2018 at 4:23 pm #1757594I have a LEX610MLXF, LEX70MLF, LEX76MLXF, and a LT610MLXF — I would gladly get rid of them all if interested.
I’m building my own and I’d rather catch fish on a rod I built than one from the store. Nothing wrong with them.
February 22, 2018 at 10:26 am #1754352djshannon, If you’re on an ACA Plan (2014+) the max out of pocket will be no more than $7350. Pre-2014 plans can vary with MOP’s up to $10,000.
Glad you’re doing well!

Wow just read that the world record is 15.5″ and a 12.75″ girthGoogle just told me this.
The world record yellow perch (18 in or 46 cm; 4 lb 3 oz or 1.9 kg) was caught in 1865 in New Jersey, and is the longest standing record for freshwater fish in North America.
I believe Hayden was referring to the ice fishing world record under the “tip up” section.
January 15, 2018 at 10:15 am #1744345I really don’t understand the hate for Buck. Back in the day when he started ya I got it, everybody thought he got the job because of his daddy. I like his style. I like his voice tone. He knows the games he calls and he doesn’t make many mistakes.
But then again, I hate Paul Allen as a announcer so my likes and dislikes varies from others.
I don’t understand the hate for Joe Buck either. Chris Collisnworth, on the other hand………
