I’m not sure which resorts are going to be renting houses this year but will look into it and get back to you. Check my fishing reports to find out where the action is closer to the date you plan to come. What are you going to be fishing for?

Thank you everyone for the warm response towards the newest member of our family. it has been a little hectic around here lately with the birth of our beautiful daughter as well as I just completed real estate school yesterday. I will be adding real estate to my portfolio now as well as guiding. By the way if anyone is intrested in any real estate in the leech lake area, please get in touch with me. and yes Emma will have a fishing pole before a barbie if daddy has anything to say about it.

October 30, 2003 at 3:35 am #278976Thank you for the congrats,
let me know when you are coming up next and we will have to meet, have you been up here fishing this fall?July 22, 2003 at 2:55 pm #271219Glad to hear the surgery went well. Let me know if you can come up at the end of August, will you stay at Sugar Point again?
July 22, 2003 at 2:52 pm #271217There is a nice Federal campground on the tip of Stoney Point, there are 2 harbors to keep your boat in as well. This would also be closer to Walker than Sugar Point and Federal Dam, if that is what you are looking for. Many of the resorts will also allow camping if you call ahead of time.
July 15, 2003 at 2:26 pm #270675The best bite for walleyes right now is coming in the evening, and into the early night. Fish are being caught at many areas of the lake at this time. Walker Bay, Sucker Bay, and Traders Bay would alll be good choices. The mid-lake reefs have been very slow for the last few weeks. Live bait rigging or trolling crank baits have been the presentation of choice.
Good Luck and be sure to make a post back and let us know how you do.July 8, 2003 at 1:44 pm #270120I do not musky fish myself but, Pellican island area, as well as many of the mid lake reefs hold many muskie. this last week I have seen fish on Red Rocks and Mokey on a few occasions whlie fishing for walleye. There are a lot of cabbage beds in Agency bay that will hold musky as well. In Walker bay look for the shallower points to hold some fish. Hope this helps

June 17, 2003 at 5:38 pm #268784Gene,
It was great to meet and chat with you and your wife for a while. I’m glad that the fish turned on later that day for you. It’s hard to beat a SW wind there, it almost always seems to turn on the fish. I hope Cheryl wasent too hard on you about the jig and leech thing, but in her defence, She was right all along I’m really glad to hear that she was able to finally start cathing some fish and that you didn’t hawg them all all week anyway! Great chating with you, let me know when you are coming up next with the 3 fat germans!!!May 30, 2003 at 12:54 pm #267560The midge flys are pretty much done now, they have been hatching on and off since about a week into the season. I have not seen any mayflys yet this year. Last year was a pretty good crop though. I have a feeling that this year will be the same. As far a s when they will hatch i have no idea. Midge flys are much smaller than a may fly and are black in color. I do not know what lake flys are either. I should be able to hook up with you the week of the 7th. Give me a call next week and lets set something up.
May 29, 2003 at 6:04 pm #267509I have defintly nort stopped fishing Leech and the walleye action is continuing to get better and better. How often do you get up to Leech?
May 27, 2003 at 11:23 pm #267383I second the Mille Lacs Lake suggestion, It is turing into ine heck of a smallmouth fishery
May 23, 2003 at 12:32 am #267227The big Part of Leech is at about 56 degrees today, with the shallower bays running about 58 degrees.
May 19, 2003 at 12:54 pm #266927I should be able to sneak over to the east shore for a bit the week you are up. Get a hold of me closer to then and we’ll try to set something up. I’ll try to hold those walleyes in the shallows as long as I can, but my net is only so big
May 15, 2003 at 12:05 am #266700Let me know when you will be coming up next and we will try to hook up.
Today was a much better day fishing on the lake, it took a while but once I found them it was a good bite, should be better fishing next time you are up.
May 7, 2003 at 9:40 pm #266097I think it will be great, check back and I will have a fishing report after this weekend.
May 2, 2003 at 8:09 pm #265779I heard that they resocked the lake but haven’t heard of anything coming off of there except tons of small northerns. It could be worth cheking out though
May 1, 2003 at 1:11 pm #265635I keep a log everyday as well. They are great!!! I jot down some key info on a note pad everyday and then enter that into my computer which will sort the data out for me according to date, species caught, wind, weather, water temp, ect. A few years of data like this is one of the best tools you can have. Just remember to stay consistant with it. A fishing log is only as good as the information that is in it
May 1, 2003 at 1:04 pm #265634I have a 18′ Warrior with a 74# Maxxum and 60″ shaft. I reallly like the way it handles my boat. I mainly fish Leech and it handles great in the wind. Shaft length is very important, especially if you are going to use it in high winds and the more thrust you can afford the better. You will appreciate the added thrust in the wind. I really like the Maxxum and would recomend it to anyone. The infinate speed control is great as well as the fine tuning steering. I use the fine tune steereing more than the foot pad when walleye fishing in most situations.
hope this helpsMay 1, 2003 at 12:35 pm #265632Too bad you won’t be able to make it up untill then. With the early ice out and warmer consistant weather we are having this spring it’s shaping up to be a great opener. I was out on a small lake late last week making sure everything ran good on the boat and found 53 degree water in a shallow bay on the north end of that lake. I was suprised too see it that warm.
I’m not sure if there are any tourny’s scheduled for that time or not but will let you know if I hear of any.
April 28, 2003 at 2:13 pm #265232I have one word OXYGEN!!!!!!! Oxygen is what makes every breathing thing live!!! It is important to change the water often as well but one of the main reasons you change the water is for more oxygen. Consider geting a oxygen tank and a areator stone and you will have much better success keeping your minnows alive. Another key point is to keep that water as cool as possible, oxygen out of the bottle will help cool your water as well as it is very cold. Make sure you use rain or well water also. Shiners are very hard to keep alive but if you get fresh oxygen to them you can prolong there life!!!
I hope this helps
April 28, 2003 at 1:49 pm #265229I dont kow how you can handle watching this day after day!!! I wont say much on this or I could get arrested!! The natives trap a few waleyes on Leech every year as well but nothing like the picture of that Alumacraft or the degrees that they net on Mille Lacs.
April 23, 2003 at 1:11 pm #264913Quote:
1. How fresh is fresh? Will frozen beef liver really work?
Yes Beef liver will work. As far as fresh, think of it as how fresh you would like your food. Early in the spring, when the water temps are low, you can usally leave your traps out all day. As the water starts to warm up, you must pull your traps in the morning and set them again in the evening or the meat will go bad.
April 22, 2003 at 1:23 pm #264832All the traps that were mentioned will work for leeches. The trick to cathing them is when you set and check your traps. Your bait must be fresh or they will not like it. As the water temps warm up, you need to set your traps in the evening or the meat will spoil. Then one of the keys to catching leeches is checking your traps EARLY in the morning, at 1st dawn is best. The reason is that as the water temps warm up with the sun, the leeches leave the traps and go back in the mud. None of the traps mentioned above actually “trap” the leeches but instead the leeches just stay there or are “held” there. The bigger leeches will leave the traps 1st. That is why its important to get out there as early as possible to check your traps.
April 18, 2003 at 3:55 pm #264530i run Interstate Batteries in my boat and will be starting my third season with them. So far I have no complaints. A friend of mine has the same batteries and is on his 7th year with them. He does a lot of guiding, and is on the water most days out of the year. In the winter he uses the same batteries in his Ice house so these batteries defiently see a lot of use. Hope this helps
