I had an Avid 63MXF. Loved it. Owned it for ten years. Bought a 69MXF 7 years ago. The 6′ 3″ tip broke so I sent it in to replace it. Paid the replacement cost and expected the same model back. A guy from the warranty dept called and offer a $50 upgrade to the Tournament Legend. So I said I suppose I’ll give it a shot. I ordered the 70MLXF. That rod is my new go to. Light, super sensitive, the action on it is PERFECT for rigging. I highly recommend the extra $50 but for pitching or jigging I would recommend a slighty shorter 68 or 69 model.

What app do you use for usb tethering? I’ve used easytether lite, a free app. Works okay. Wondering if it may be worth paying for one in the future.
December 9, 2010 at 2:08 pm #915714I have the m68, same depth finder but has gps map. I love the flasher the only negative is when I fish shallow weeds(cabbage or coontail). It’s difficult to tell the difference between jig, fish and weeds. But I love the thing. I mounted it in my smaller boat too. Been a great investment.
July 13, 2010 at 1:05 pm #886375Thanks for the info. I was mainly going to concentrate on the area from BP to 252. The islands and back channels and the certain sand flats and eddys that are created are what I’m looking for. Didn’t even think of wing dams. I’ll report back.
March 27, 2010 at 10:47 pm #857876Oh and I was just informed by my gal she’s also would like to join or be part of the start up. My dad used to be in Lower St. Croix Anglers and that got to be a pretty big group. I can pick his brain for some info.
March 26, 2010 at 11:55 am #857458Canvas Plus in Rogers. You can call them and give them the boat model and they can make it. Its closer than Albert Lea and their quality canvas is 100% better than the Cabela’s version. Plus since you would waste a trip to the NW metro you could tool around Cabela’s. Or I could deliver it for you. My parents live in Hastings and I come down at least once a week.
January 23, 2010 at 4:43 pm #835407I second that. We were up last sunday before the Vikes walloped the Cowgirls. I found a deep edge, 35ft and change and there were small blips constantly with a few tulibee marks here and there. Moved away from the thin marks and found a few really dang nice perch. 13″ was the biggest. kept 5 more in the 10″ to not quite 12″ range. And a couple of tulibees. I have a question about tulibees on mille lacs. Do they get to alomost 18″ in length or are there whitefish on mille lacs? I caught what i thought was a pretty big guy. the more i got to thinking about it i wondered if it may have been a whitey. Oh and we never did find a walleye. Trying my hardest to get the gal to hook into a big mama. She’s almost as intense a fisher(wo)man as me and I can’t wait to see her face when she gets a sow on the ice.
December 24, 2009 at 6:16 am #826292Green lake between princeton and cambridge is an alright lake. It has very nice pike, some eater sized eyes and if you hit it the right day and spot you can find decent(up to 11″) crapppies. Send a pm some time we could give it a go. I was out this past saturday. We caught 2 16″ walleyes that ate up pretty good. No pike on the tip ups but there were upwards of a thousand people trying crappies on the point. I went for my honey hole and enjoyed it all to myself and was rewarded.

December 16, 2009 at 5:22 pm #823852The house we’re renting is one block from the Tigertail Beach entrance. So we could go there or anywhere for that matter. We will have a car or two to get where ever it is I need to go to catch a bunch. Thanks DaveB.
February 12, 2009 at 2:49 pm #747551Just an FYI I drove over the 494 bridge in SSP and the landing under it looks open and in decent shape. Some shore ice north of the bridge. Is the construction of the bridge causing any disruptions at that ramp?? Good luck guys and if anyone ever needs an extra stick in the boat let me know. Im a newbie to P2 and would love to learn a few things.
January 27, 2009 at 5:16 pm #741944Thanks guys for all the info. I will post back if/when we do go. I will be bringing my fish trap but it would be nice to fish in a tshirt so ill make the required inquiries and see what i can find.
December 13, 2008 at 3:52 pm #728300When exactly are you going up there? The weekend of the 27th? The anchorage inn is a good start, they just remodeled so it isnt as run down as the motel. The lake its on isnt much of a fishing lake. My parents have had a cabin there for 20 years. What species are you targeting? Walleyes and perch I would assume. Call and talk to Jeff Knuff(sp)at the Anchorage 218-363-2236. Good luck and if I so happen to be up there that weekend might run into ya.
June 4, 2007 at 2:10 pm #577628with my experience with the colored lowrance units. ive had very little glare or issues seeing the graph in very high sunlight.
March 22, 2007 at 6:34 pm #552097done this a lot. Works well with halibut, salmon, whitefish, even walleye. I build decks and have numerous left-over 1X cedar scraps at the end of every job. Makes for a lot or wood duck and blue bird houses…. and of course cedar planking. Use western red cedar(more fragrant than white cedar). Soak it at least 4hrs but up to 24 if you remember or its convenient. I soak it right in a 5 gallon pail. place pieces vertically in the pail and weight them on top to keep them submersed. You can add orange or apple or even cranberry juices to the water for a little bit differnt flavor(match with the seasoning used). Start grill until desired heat med to med-hi(400 to 450 deg). Place plank on grill for about 5 minutes until it starts to appear dry on the top surface then dribble olive oil on top of the plank add seasoned or rubbed fish on top of oiled plank. cook until fish flakes. 10-15 for smaller pieces(walleye, pike) 20-30 for larger chunks of salmon, whitefish or halibut(by far my favorite cedar planked fish). Try it let me know how it works. Keep in mind it does smolder a piece of wood and it gets really smoky. dont do it right next to open windows(experience) or sliding glass door. your grill will smell like cedar for awhile but well worth it.
March 17, 2007 at 10:06 pm #550003Is that stretch of river free of ice yet. Id like to boogey around a bit maybe wednesday. Not sure I want to spend the money on gas to get to Everts. What could a couple of guys from elk river get into with a whole day on their hands. Species and general areas to launch and/or shore fish would be nice to know. thanks in advance.
February 21, 2007 at 3:58 pm #539656Good point on the RAM if you have extra money you absolutely should upgrade the RAM to 1GB or better. They always include the least amount needed to run the computer “smoothly”. Sony’s and dell are the best. Don’t chince on the extended warranties either. If you don’t you’ll be paying for it in the long run. Good luck.
February 16, 2007 at 6:35 pm #537901Enjoy his company. He is a very knowledgable guy but best of all he’s one of the nicest guys on the planet. I’ve been fortunate to fish in his boat on a couple of occasions. Always seemed to learn something new everytime.
March 5, 2006 at 6:09 pm #426850I got out pretty late yesterday evening. We caught fish right away on sand, dragging ringies. Nothing big, a few fat 18-20″ female eyes that are still swimming. We kept a couple of meals of sauger and male eyes. Action was fast for the first hour with 3 doubleheaders. Total catch was around 20. Oh yeah, in case ya’ll didn’t know this already, check to make sure your plugs are in.
