the st croix can be good at times well almost always for me. my luck lately has been a crawler or leech under a bobber anywhere from 7 to 15 fow a foot off. focus on points working them with drop shot rigs, deep diving cranks, gittzits, slow rollin spinnerbaits deep.and if theyre realy feeding at the time try topwater. right now they are going to be a little bit deeper cuz of the heat but not realy deep becuse the water hasnt gotten over 80 so far that ive seen so key in on that 5 to 20 fow around points. ive never targeted bass on p3 but ive caught quite a few on the wingdams in prescott.on mr.twisters, spinnerbaits, vibrax spinners, cranks, lindy rigs and just about the whole tackle box. if theyre hungry theyll bite you just got to find the active ones this time of the year.
we ended up going to carnelian just north of stillwater. we ended the night with around 10 or 15 bass and about 20snakes. we were using mushroom head jigs for bass and got some snot rockets on them and for tthe pike reef runners, smaller grandmas, and a perch patern salmo lure no clue what its called. the best fish of the night was a 4 lb bass my dad got trolling the reef runner in 20 fow. it was strange becuse when we were trolling we could only get the pike to bite in 17 or more fow. the big bass even came out that deep…
i would take up the offer for one of the days but i will be in ohio for the whole time you are off!!
for jigging i like to use either the green or crystal fireline. you can feel the slightest little tick. i use 6 lb test. there is no strech in the line so i put a 3 or 4 ft flouro leader in 6 lb test so i get a little strech when i set the hook so i dont just rip it right out.and the green and white make it easier to detect bites and in rivers it helps you know if your staying vertical
we have one on our angler 1760. it is a pretty good motor. got that boat up to 47 with just me safety gear and a lifejacket. the only bad thing that wevee noticed since we got it is that it kind of idles rough and vibrates the whole boat pretty bad..other than that a good motor

thats the furthest up we have gone we caught multiple fish over 30 that trip with the 39 the biggest. most came on spinnerbaits but some came on cranks, tubes, little mepps spinners(crappie sized). most were caught in less than 3 feet of water.just launch at the public ramp just north of stillwater and motor up just make sure you dont pass the border.theres alot of back coves and cuts up that way thats how i got the 39 i casted my crankbait up into a little cut that was 1.5 ft deep and kinda just trolled it back with dad going forward with the motor and she inhaled it…
you will havefun on erie with the eyes and smallies…. cant beat it. grew up in ohio and i always hear stories from my dad and always did from my grandpa about the fishing out there…
i also had a musky yesterday take about 10 inches of a 13 inch smallmouth down his throat and as i was trying to beach it he let go and the smallie was pretty beat up. threw him up and he just floated down river. ive seen many muskies around the afton area. 2 hooked and lost and multiple blow ups and the 1 yesterday that just hung onto the smallmouth…
went down around afton yesterday and had a pretty good sized muskie on for a while then it snapped my 8 lb test. he hit a bobber rod rigged with a blue n white jig with a red hook. i actualy seen him before he hit. i seen his tail surface and casted near him and he hit. and on a side note ive caught many pike on the croix with my pb coming from there and lotw at 39″. caught it on a spinnerbait all the way up by the high bridge. also caught many more on that trip…
this is some good advice as i do the same thing. i throw something for 5 mins and change and keep doing it. i love throwin cranks over weed beds for eyes tho.they pound it
hogs deffinately. we already have the freezer stocked up for the year… what kind of depth and structure should we look for. last time we were there they were just starting to move onto the tops of the flats and we were getting them in 25 to 28 fow!!! thanks again,

another good bait to throw for walleyes but its a bass bait is a ratl-trap.most of your hits will come ripping it out of the weeds. when you get hung up on some weeds just set the hook basicaly and most of the time all the weeds will come off with the force of pulling..also try thin fins they run shallow soo they might run above the weeds….
hope this helps,

they were snappin last night around the afton marina… we got around 20 from 7 to 9:30, they were hitting anything.we gut them on jigs n pigs, yum mega tubes, flukes, rattle traps, topwater. they hit everything
we use the nutro lamb n rice for our german shorthair and she has a very smooth coat and shiny….
ive used reel magic for 10 years and it seems to get them workin again.. its the only thing ive used on my reels. hope this helps
i was just going to say that. troll the outer weed edges or troll deep water looking for suspended fish.
i would put snap carpeting in it. all you do is pop it out, put some cleaner on it, and spray it down. i cant help you with the bubbling cuz i have a glass boat but im sure someone will chime in with some tips…
hope you figure something out.

as for boat launches i would go with isle, cove,or the 1 by the casino. depending on where you plan on fishing there is launches all around the pond. as far as launches go cant realy help you on that 1. ive only been out on eddys and they were very accomidating and nice people. they put us on fish all day. we hit the morning launch and caught some nice eyes, then hit the afternoon launch and the eyes werent biting so the capt. moved in shallower onto a weed line and got us on the perch, then hit the night 1 and it was lights out. limits all over the boat with a bunch of big fish mixed in as well…..
sorry but i think we are gunna hit it on sunday morning. we plan on doing the same thing also. dads got the typical honey-dooo list for tommorow
ill see if me and my dad are going out and maybe you could hop in our boat.do u plan on rigging, dragging,or trooling?
i was up last weekend and dint have any hook up issues like you were reporting. i use 6 lb fireline lindy rigging to a snap swivel and a 8 to 12 foot leader and keep the bail open with your finger on the line. when you feel that tick take your finger off and let em take line i normaly give them around 10 seconds and then wham. dosent matter what size hooks i use i give them 10 seconds. we didnt loose to many fish, i mean we lost a couple but not many. i think fireline is the key for lindy rigging because you can feel everything. even if you think it is a rock give em some line and set it. you never know until you try…
huh maybe my dad just made me get one when we lived there so i could keep fish. thats the only thing i can think of now
i think im right but im not sure… you all 3 need to have 1. when i was 12 and lived in kenosha i had to get a lisence to get a trout stamp so i could keep fish… someone chime in if im wrong. i cant remember
yeah we made the mistake of launching there for an all night catfishing trip there 2 years ago. we came back at noon to 1 pm the next day and had a $78 ticket. i think its ridiculos that you have to pay to launch your boat there but you cant park it there all night. not all of us are day time fishers only some of us like the middle of night . i would say launch at hubs and just slowly motor your way downriver and find a good place to set up a tent. youll have fun.
