fished P4 again today from 630 until noon. Same as yesterday ended up with 5 nice saugers, but today it was glow orange jig and minnow combo. never saw any eyes caught at all. Got stopped by the warden very very nice guy. He told us that they did really good on eyes out in front of the boat ramp and up to the railroad bridge last night.

fished P3 today , got 5 nice sauger between the 3 of us , enough for a nice meal. Saw a few eyes caught in the mid 20’s but nothing big. Was a fun day. Caught nothing up near the RR-Bridge everything was down at the far south end of the marina.
April 9, 2010 at 11:08 pm #862629Nice fish ! Thanks for the bait info as well. Are you going all the way to the dam or right out in front of Prescott.
April 9, 2010 at 8:35 pm #862588going to hit p3 to stay away from the tourney on P4 . Are there any bait shops in Prescott? I was told to drift right in from the railroad bridge down past the boat ramp any other suggestions?
March 8, 2010 at 2:29 am #850500doing good on the north end of Pokegama, Pike’s slough. Late afternoon bite.
October 18, 2009 at 2:01 pm #809901Well I closed up my camper on the SE part of the flowage on the weekend of 10/3. Crappies were in very large schools with very nice fish if you find the right schools. They were running deep anywhere from 18-30ft. I used ice fishing tactics with a jigs n spin jigging spoon tipped with either a minnow head or waxies to get the larger crappies. Walleye bite was bad but on the other hand the smallmouth are absolutely going nuts. I set up on a couple of my late season walleyes spots using up what was left of the leech’s I had been nursing along and it was constant smallie action. Caught approx 20-25 smallies and 3 over the 20 inch mark.Black twister tails(Large) hooked through the tip like you would a leech worked good as well. Hook the tail through the head end using a slip bobber and and jig it back using small sharp jerks. Black with orange also worked. Hope this helps.
June 26, 2009 at 4:37 am #786744we are going to go next June going up the Weds after Memorial day. We are planning on camping on an island and leaning towards those nw of wooden frog. Thanks for the advice as well as I think I will put in at the visitors center launch and leave our vehicles there.
April 12, 2009 at 1:05 pm #767772First off I would like to thank the folks at Everts for all the advice. Yesterday was our first time on the River and it was enjoyable to say the least. We only caught one legal eye 17 inch and a few shorts but had a great time and will be back again real soon. We fished by the lock channel and saw a few fish caught but not many that went in any live wells only a couple. Went over to the Dam side of the island and saw much better quality fish being caught in close to shore on the east side.Had some hits and drops there and caught one short eye. Again thanks to Everts for there help.
March 31, 2009 at 12:09 am #763995red is correct I to was on some polk county lakes and from Tuesday until Friday ice conditions improved greatly. We did well on gills. Still be careful not all lakes are the same.
March 28, 2009 at 12:26 am #763466I wouldn’t even attempt to get on the ice. Its very dark and honey combed on the lakes I looked over.
March 25, 2009 at 12:37 am #762161I would say it would be by then. We are getting lots of rain this week and the shorelines are going fast. All open water under the bridge ‘s.
March 25, 2009 at 12:35 am #762160Like I said before ice fishing season I bought one of those map books of NW Wisconsin and just started reading on each and every lake and talking to locals and the nearest bait shops. Most were more than willing and helpful. Then you can pretty much narrow down your search from there as I did. One thing of note was if the nearest bait shop said it was good but a local said it wasn’t then it was worth the time to check it out. 8 times out of ten they ended up being gems.
March 24, 2009 at 1:46 pm #761932The ice is going fast with all the rain we have had and the more rain we are forecast to get. Was fishing this past weekend and the ice was getting very soft and the only place to get on would be a shaded south shore. Going to go check some lakes out today and will report back.
March 24, 2009 at 12:06 am #761767these are the same fish in a 5 gal pail. Never really measured them so you’ll have to take it from the bucket pic. I would say most ran 7-10 inch’s for the gills and crappies were 9-12.
March 22, 2009 at 5:20 pm #761224plenty of ice . The landings are whats going. Full length of the auger.
March 21, 2009 at 12:40 am #760928looking for word on ice conditions on upper clam? Can you get out with an atv? landings ok yet?
March 21, 2009 at 12:39 am #760927Ice was holding up pretty good. Took my atv out without any problems. Public landing was still in good shape as far as getting on with an ATV.
March 20, 2009 at 4:08 pm #760742was on Big Round yesterday afternoon , slow doesn’t describe it. not a soul on the lake other than a group over in the Se corner about 15-20. From 2:30 until 5:30 I never saw anyone catch a fish and I only had one bite.
March 13, 2009 at 6:47 pm #758325May 2nd is the opener. I have a camper I keep up no the Chippewa Flowage so I will be there that weekend.
March 13, 2009 at 3:43 pm #758244thanks alot appreciate the advice very much. Haven’t decided if I would use the boat or go from shore. Is there allot of rocks to look out for? hate to lose a prop.
March 3, 2009 at 8:46 pm #754626Bear and deer hunted with him.Have known Frank for the past 20+ years.
March 3, 2009 at 8:26 pm #754621as for my tone its neither friendly nor unfriendly. I talk to Frank almost daily and hunt with him as well. As for the confidence in your information I am sure you are. I am just pointing out that what ever info was given to you was wrong. He did indeed have the accident but they never stopped running the campground for one minute. They were there last 19 years none stop.
March 3, 2009 at 3:00 am #754306Quote:
For the most part they haven’t been there full time for a couple years. Frank was banged up pretty bad in a scooter accident a few years back and had scaled back a lot since then. If I remember correctly their son or daughter or inlaws of some type were taking over. I don’t know if that is still the case. Doesn’t really change the campground though, just who checks you in.
FIRST OF ALL THEY NEVER STOPPED RUNNING THE CAMPGROUND EVEN AFTER THE ACCIDENT FRANK HAD NOBODY TOOK OVER ANYTHING FROM THEM.IT WAS FRANK , LAURA AND THEIR DAUGHTER INLAW WHO WERE RUNNING IT. YOU MAY SAY IT DOESN’T CHANGE ANYTHING BUT MAYBE YOU AREN’T AS INFORMED AS YOU THINK. FRANK AND LAURA FOUGHT TO GET THE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CAMPGROUND WHEN THE DIRECTOR DID NOT WANT TO SPEND A DIME. THE NEW SHOWERS NEW STORE ALL OF WHICH THE DIRECTOR DID NOT WANT.
March 2, 2009 at 1:48 pm #753994i use red exclusively on all my rods both open water and ice fishing. I or at least I feel it has increased me take of fish.
February 27, 2009 at 2:55 pm #753109ice is fine just about anywhere you go but as usual use common sense. As for reports all I can tell you is that they were getting some nice perch off the humps past the island out in front of vets park and a few eyes as well(fish deep for them and use the smallest walleye sucker you can get). Northern has been picking up as well.Hope this helps and good luck !!!
