I guess I don’t remember that Ripjiggen. Usually that’s just someone that catches their first one and doesn’t know how to hold it.

If anyone has been getting some good ones, it’d be nice to seem some pics on here like people used to post a lot more of.

Everyone, please take the time to go to the in-person meeting, and don’t be deterred by the extra 20 seconds it takes to create an account and sign in. The public feedback for any proposed regulation changes in this state is thoughtfully taken into consideration.

Yooo, send me a PM, I love fishing the Croix for everything that swims in it… especially catfish and sturgeon.

I’ve caught one or two around five pounds when I’ve been there. Nothing too hot and heavy though.

    Jon,
The fish that we would track were radio tagged.

Biggest Flatty was 57 pounds. Biggest Chan was only around 17. There really are piles upon piles of Flathead throughout that river.

I fished for them a few weeks last January. That 12ish day fishing trip was eye-opening and made me realize a goal of mine is to live in the PNW…

Fishing for those magical beasts is the most I’ve ever enjoyed fishing:)

As for a guide service, “BrokenBack Sturgeon Fishing” out of The Dalles in Oregon is a great option. It’s right across the Columbia from Washington, so close enough. Prices for a quality guide service don’t get better than theirs.

    Hope you have a blast!

That’s the fish I fantasize about! Agh. So cool to beasts like that still around.

Andy, the overall biggest was around nine feet(third pic) and the biggest non-guided one was 87″(last pic). Other than that, several around 70-76″. Fighting them in a kayak was one of the more “out there” fishing experiences I’ve had. It made for several fights that lasted more than an hour. A friendly boater let me finish fighting and land the 87 in their boat. The Columbia river more than lived up to it’s reputation. My trusty Fin-Nor 9500 got quite the workout. I’ll be back soon to explore the insane amount of water out there that holds insane sized fish.

This is the time of year I really wish I still lived a short drive from the Croix. Here’s a chunky 66” that took a fist sized piece of cut sucker.

Shallow water in winter weather can be very good. My friends and I have caught plenty of 60+ fish late into November and even December in less than twelve feet. Fish open water hard until you can’t anymore!

Dear IDO members… please don’t look to IDO for COVID facts and science.

A big hook plus a big bait increases your odds of getting that big bite. I was amazed when my friends and I cut open a dead 53″ Sturgeon we found on the Croix that had several 10+” shad in its gut… Could go on for hours about this topic.

Seems like such a bad idea I’ve never even tried it

Someone telling me that stink bait/ hot dogs work well:

Me: Uhhhh… ya, I’ve heard those work sometimes:/
