I’ll check on the material in that width and get back to you. Is the edge parallel to the gunwale 90 degrees with the top?

Well, I couldn’t stand it and had to buy a TIG machine. Haven’t had one since I retired. Since I needed this corner cap and couldn’t find one I talked myself into it. (Plus no one around here is welding boats right now)

Here’s a couple of pics, the first is the rough finish, second the polished bracket. Fits good and now my search is over. Plus it’s not cast so it won’t crack and end up at the bottom of the lake like the last one.

Although I first point to the sky, I also point at ground level to all who made this day possible, past, present and future. Thank You.

I have an ’85 Tyee 5.3, excellent boat, no need to upgrade for northern MN lakes. 1990 100hp Merc and a ’91 Evinrude 9.9 kicker with electric start and it’s own controls. Works perfect for me, enough room, super solid and hasn’t leaked a drop.

Yes, I can move it with the motor. Thanks for that info.

Not sure how much it will be to replace your current setup but hydraulic for that is less than 500, I just did my boat not too long ago. If you are running in sub-zero temps, hyd. Has a much less chance of freezing up. You can have the setup I took off my boat if it works for you and you want to come and pick it up.

That would be a haul for me, I’m about 80 miles north of Duluth. I need a 15′ setup.

Thanks for all the input. I was out looking for walters this evening and my starter finally went on my 100hp Merc. It’s a 1990 so a bear to start sometimes when the starter “is” good. Good thing for kickers. I’ve contemplated an upgrade to FI but the price isn’t a hun a horse anymore.

Well, $500 isn’t bad for “easy” steering. I’m kind of unlearned as far as in depth boat steering goes so I’m not sure if this (see pic) is NFB steering. It is R & P. I think I’d just replace everything and start fresh either way.

When I retired I sold the Tig machine I had at home, didn’t want to be pestered with any more welding. Really could have used it now to fab up a clone of that bracket.

Thanks for the link, I saw this a couple of weeks back and checked into the resources posted and still no luck.

I checked into those, the Starcraft ones, and the measurements across the back of the transom on them (5 1/2″) are to small.

I’m in Northern Minnesota (The Range) so not much for boat junkyards around. I’m afraid that when recycled alum/steel was at an all time high a while back people cashed in on it. The cap we’re looking for is probably a 12 pack of Michelob Golden Light.
