Used to catch Dogfish all the time. Haven’t seen one for a while though. Don’t catch many but see a lot of Gar swimming around.

I have one on my 03′ crew cab and have no complaints. Seemed like the best bang for the buck at the time. Don’t have anything to compare it to though.
July 15, 2013 at 8:28 pm #1183656Lots of debris still in the water lots of grass and branches. I also watched about a 30ft log dislodge from shore and float down. Spooky to think what would happen if someone hit that. Definitely not staying out after dark for a while.

I pretty much stick with the 3 S’s….Sedona, Sahara, Symetre. I have Saharas ands Sedonas that are 10 years old and never a problem.
Same here and I do prefer them over the one phlueger president I own.
October 3, 2012 at 3:02 pm #1102684I pretty much use fireline crystal for all my spinning. It’s not cheap, but you can use more mono backing to lessen the cost. The cost to me is worth it. Zero memory, zero stretch, and is more abrasion resistant than any mono. Just my preference though.

You want to experience a lot of jerks, spend some time on the wolf river above lake Poygan or anywhere from Winneconne down through Oshkosh to Winnebago. On a nice weekend, there will be 50 cigar boats running 80 mph in really tight quarters. Surprised more people don’t get killed up there.
.
+1 there. Vacationed there for a week a few years ago. I feared for my family’s life.August 22, 2012 at 4:54 pm #1094069Would have been nice to at least retrieve all the crank baits that were probably snagged on it. But unfortunately I was not present when it was hauled out of the water.
August 17, 2012 at 2:22 am #1092779Floatzilla is going on Saturday out of sunset marina so be prepared for lots of canoes and kayaks all over. I hope to get out Sunday. Couldn’t buy a fish last weekend in Clinton.

I can tell you this these guys are indestructible and reliable and Fun!
. +1. And don’t forget unstoppable. 18 inches of snow and it will eat it for breakfast. Now if you want something faster and more for fun definitely look at the CanAm Commander.
October 18, 2011 at 1:11 am #1002131Thanks for the update, i’m hoping to get out this weekend. Nice fish!

They stocked pool 9 with a billion sheepheads it seems.
Same down here on 14-16! We pulled a 12 pounder out of the sand pits the other week. Completely inhaled a bandit, and I swore it was related to one of my inlaws it
was so ugly!August 23, 2010 at 10:48 pm #895110I have my fingers crossed for this fall. The walleye havn’t seen a jig and crawler all year, so I know they will be hungry!!!!
August 3, 2010 at 10:53 pm #890860My reccomendation is to google it. Those Europeans fish for carp like crazy and there is alot of info out there on tackle, dough bait recipes and techniques. I usually chum with corn and put a few kernals on a small hook with a small weight and toss it into the chum area. Hang on and make sure your rods are secure! I watched my favorite st.croix rod launch about six feet out of the boat and into the depths of the mississipi fishing for those buggars. Good luck they are Fun to catch! My record carp is 48.8lbs by the way.
September 14, 2009 at 8:35 pm #804269Well we ended up 30th out of 42 boats. caught 2 fish over the 15″ limit. totaled 3.24lbs. Sad day for us but we gave it our best. Most of the boats that did well ran down river quite a ways while we stayed local.
Oh well I didn’t expect a whole lot given I had such short notice and no time to pre-fish. Still fun and I might consider doing it again next season. Thanks for the advice guys!!I should have just trolled cranks and dragged jigs and crawlers like I would for walleye. I might have got lucky a third time this year.
September 12, 2009 at 12:43 am #803848Stick and move sounds like the plan. It should be a fun day. The water has hopefully cleaned up and the weather looks great! Thanks
August 30, 2009 at 10:05 pm #801496We ended up with crap weather but still got out for a little bit. The only thing we caught on Poygan was a small drum! Trolling was just about impossible with all the floating weeds. We did however go up the Wolf and found some bass, catfish, and drum. No trophies but we did not get skunked. The Wolf was great! Lots of structure and seemed to good to be true. And it was! About noon Sunday some of the largest boats I have ever seen came out to play at about 100mph non-stop and four at a time. Up and down and up and down. I can’t believe that there have not been some serious accidents there. Monday was not as bad but next time I will go in Fall or Spring. Thanks again for the advise!!
August 20, 2009 at 12:04 am #798887Wow, Thank you! To be honest I was not expecting a response from anyone. I might just have to upgrade my boards with tattle flags and do exactly that. They don’t get much use on the river! Pool 14 and 16 are my favorite haunts on the mississippi for walleye but we dont get into too many pike. But trolling with boards sounds great! Thanks again and I will be sure to post our results!!!!
August 17, 2009 at 10:43 am #797852And I forgot to add that that out in front of that island all the way out to the channel is a VERY dangerous area in lower water conditions. Very shallow and all rock! That is a trolling motor only area for me. But the area does produce some nice fish of all species.
August 17, 2009 at 10:37 am #797851We made it out Saturday as well, only we were after walleye and ended up with my PB flathead. weighing in at just over 20 lbs. Caught on a jig and 1/2 crawler with 6lb test. Took about a half hour to finally net him. It was caught just outside the field of view of your last picture. if you were working a wingdam just south of where you were when you took that picture you probably watched us do battle with it. We were in a black Lund. And not but a month ago I landed an 18 out of that picture just north of that island trolling a crank. Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture but thats all I have.
July 28, 2009 at 9:10 pm #793740Read your outboards owners manual. My 2000 merc 50 4stroke says “do not use ethanol” If you have to, use no more than 10 percent ethanol and have a dealer install a gas/water seperator.

I wish the IA DNR would consider similiar regulations further north on the river here in Iowa.
AND SOUTH!!
July 7, 2009 at 1:58 am #788669The bite was still on Sunday. But the boaters were insane! I had a guy pull up and anchor not 50 ft from us. I am guessing he saw us pulling some nice walleyes out and figured he would do the same. I saw him catch two drum . Jig and crawler took most of our fish with casting/trolling cranks across the face taking a few. The biggest was 20 inches and most were in the 16 to 19 range with a few dink sauger. All in all we boated about 20 all day, we stopped counting after we released what would have been a nice limit of fish. The water was alot more clear than last weekend and the flow is definately down. I can’t wait to make it back up and hopefully on a non-holiday.
June 29, 2009 at 2:05 am #787163You did much better than we did. We ended up with one 18″ out of the sand pit in the morning along with some stripeys. The only thing we pulled off a wingdam was an 8lb flathead. We got our butts kicked by the wind! Oh well the bite will only get better.
June 20, 2009 at 5:12 am #785351Its also on Discovery channel. The best episode to date for me is the Goonch Catfish. 150+ lb cat with teeth like a musky!! shhaaawiing!!
