I got out Sat for a while. One flush and one miss. Seeing tracks in the fresh dusting up there was cool.
It was interesting hunting in 8 degrees but not a problem. The old girl worked great. However it was always unnerving when she worked out of site in the vast woods since I cannot call her back. (deaf) Wish I would have hunted her on the last day of the season (yesterday) but I had enough. I doubt she will be able to hunt next year but who knows. I said that last year.

where are you hunting that the season was still open on Sat?

Mine has hung on the wall in my Garage for at 5-6 years now. I should pull it down and see if it will even start. My guess is it will not. Should just get rid of it. I looked at selling it a few years ago and there were a ton of them for sale for almost nothing.

my strikemaster still runs great and I’ve only cleaned the carbs once in the ~15 years I’ve owned it. Add some fresh gas and I’m always good to go.

The electric augers arent that tough to take care of. Just keep the batteries charged and remove them and keep in the fish house when not in use. The rest of it can sit outside no issues but the batteries prefer to be warm and snuggly.

I get it. Just a minor inconvenience. My only other knock on electric is you’re kind of SOL if the battery craps out. Not like you can go get more gas and oil quick from the gas station and the replacement batteries are pricey. Not sure how I’d feel going on a long trip to LOTW or URL without a backup battery so that means I’d probably buy 2 and that makes the initial investment even more expensive.

A once main staple ten years ago now antique . Pretty crazy how fast electric augers took over . Still line to hear one off in the distance giving it hell .

I still use my gas strikemaster with no issues – thing runs mint. Electrics are nice and all but I couldn’t justify the cost when my gasser still works great. Also, seems like they get superseded by a newer and better version every year and guys are constantly upgrading.

Whenever my gas auger bites the dust, I’ll make the switch but for now, gas is king. Plus I don’t like how you have to baby the batteries and keep them from getting cold. Its ICE fishing! Anything that can’t stay out in the elements is a questionable choice for this sport.

1 question though. did they lap the backer board over the tub/shower flange? If not, you’ll have long term water issues

thanks for the help randy. thats a great question and I’m not sure how to tell that without ripping out the tile. How far up do those flanges typically go? the fact that the gap isn’t uniform makes me think it does overlap the flange and they did a bad job of setting the first row of tile.

I will be at this house for another year or year and a half so if I can avoid ripping out the tile, that’d be preferred.

There were a few 3hp strikemaster augers. One was a tecumseh and one was the solo 154.

those things had some serious power. felt like they could rip your arms off if it caught on the ice and you weren’t bracing for it.

That foam rope I think is an excellent idea. You can find it in all sorts of diameters. I use it to seal up window A/C units because it will pinch down to get through a tight area then expand to fill the void. I really like that idea Randy gave. Probably buy multiple sizes to get the right fit.

I like it as well. Randy – Would you try to cut it in half so its more of a semicircle shape and then it could be flush with the face of the tile? The part I’m having a hard time visualizing is how to caulk it if the full circle of foam rope is installed and you essentially have a half circle protruding from the wall that you have to caulk over.

1/2-3/4″ is too large of a bead for TEC. Tuck in 1/4″ foam rope and then caulk. Would be good to lay in a thin back bead and let it set, then top coat over it.

thanks randy. you mean like backer rod? I thought about doing that last time I re-did this but it seemed like the backer rod would stick out too far.. like there wasn’t enough room to jam it into the gap without it looking like it was protruding out into the shower once finished.

Is this on the back wall of the tub? If so the wall is likely flexing in and out with use and the changing seasons due to the tub being improperly installed. And without fixing that issue first it will continue to crack. Is there access behind the wall?

    thanks for the help guys.

the cracking is on pretty much all 3 sides of the tub but most prevalent where it makes the most contact with water (so the end under the showerhead and the long side of the tub closest to the showerhead). I can access behind the wall on the showerhead side, granted its more visual access than physical. its pretty tight with the water softener located back there.

no, it is not on an exterior wall.. all walls of the tub are on interior walls.

PVC base might work in that application

thats a really good idea. I might try to see if I can find something that will work. So you’re saying essentially just trim it out with the pvc and then water proof caulk the smaller gaps like you would a normal smaller shower gap?

I get a chuckle out of people who cry about the unknown potential side affects of the vaccines… yet at the same time, these same guys are smoking, drinking, and eating high fat processed foods DAILY while never exercising, all things which are KNOWN to be slowly killing them and they easily turn a blind eye to it. Irony FTW

The truth about Jan 6 will be coming out soon… stay tuned. whistling

Riiiiiight. Can’t wait for this one. Was it actualy an AI rendering of Trump at that rally that was telling people to go on down to the Capitol and fight? How about trumps right hand man Giuliani telling people to have “trial by combat”?

Never ceases to amaze me how people on this site will never miss an opportunity to throw jabs to one side of the aisle but yet at the same time are completely oblivious to the travesties on the other side of the aisle.

    Travesties like? No open borders?
No foreign wars? Cheaper gas? No endless spending and printing of money? No sex changes for felons in prison? No guys in girls restrooms or sports? Could you please enlighten us garbage deplorable neanderthals?

Before even getting into policies, let’s talk January 6th. Let’s see the mental gymnastics you do to shrug that one off.

I have no problem hunting ruffed grouse management areas during deer season but I will give the deer hunters the rest of the woods. The money part of the grouse season is only about 6 weeks long and I’m not going to cut out 1/3rd of it, especially when the majority of deer rifle hunters only hunt 2 days.

If anyone was wondering if they still suck, the answer is YES. All I wanted some simple 1/4 and 3/8 oz jig heads in a few colors I like. Ahh hell no. 75 percent of the aisles containing that stuff. Empty. Most shelves completely empty im guessing for ice fishing stuff to come later. And of course the two things I did get were not the price on the shelf.

This should be of no surprise since they were bought by a private equity group. Its apples to oranges from when it was run by the Mills family to the PE group.

Last winter when we were fishing at Red Lake there were some Garmin people staying at the resort testing new stuff. They told the resort owner that they have something in the works that will be lightyears ahead of anything they have out or anyone else. I’m assuming they are waiting to drop that bomb until the time is right.

they likely need to deplete existing product inventory levels before the release something like that or else they’ll have a pile of obsolete inventory on their hands

Calling one in would be a rush I bet.

That cat was shot with .17 hmr was 19 lbs . Shot raccoons bigger ha . Actually that spot was in an abandoned old junk yard next to town . There was a giant buck in there also I was after . First time I tried calling it there was a coyote I shot ha .

forgive my ignorance but do you eat the cats or what do you do with them?

Every sale there can be matched online some where. I hate crowds so it’s never worth it. Never seen a must have deal at any show I’ve been to.

totally agree. once you factor in gas to get there, parking, price of admission, etc, any savings you get on a good deal are getting washed out pretty quick.

He is 10 so I told my son don’t make him jump into the truck bed.

I try to not have my dog jump in or out of the truck bed ever, regardless of age. Sure its convenient for you but its not good for them long term. I think about their hips/joints like a set of factory OEM shocks/struts. That suspension only will last so for so many potholes before it wears out. Repeatedly jumping up and down from high up only speeds up the wear and tear. Once you realize they’re hurting, its too late. The old “ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” saying comes to mind.

If hunting in a fenced preserve you still have to pull the trigger.

ya but you’re still “hunting” in a preserve and have removed fair chase as an element of the pursuit.

If you want a flasher, get a vexilar. If you want to go the FFS route, probably best to go the garmin route.

For the augers, I’d go with whatever you find the best deal on.

Them liberals though let them murderers and dopers off easy and let them serve concurrent sentences.

Since we’re making this political, what about the conservatives having their presidential nominee be a convicted felon? How about the 16 year old he raped at Epsteins place? If you haven’t read the released Epstein documents, I highly recommend doing so before you visit the polls in November

If you can run for president as a convicted felon, you sure as heck should be able to vote as a convicted felon. Change my mind.
