It was a fun day for us last Sunday and there’s are pretty good chance we will be back this weekend.
April 14, 2014 at 2:20 pm #1404096Any predictions when the little fork will let loose? The guage height has been increasing steadily. At what level does it normally bust?
April 11, 2014 at 8:36 am #1403506Fellas,
What time is initial blast off on Sat and Sun mornings?
Thanks

December 18, 2013 at 11:09 am #1372434There is the Ultimate Panfish League – Rochester series of tournaments. Certainly not for the pros (a few events ago, 1st and 2nd place were won by 15 & 14 yr old kids (their combined age is still younger than me and I got 3rd)). Just a locals series of events where the entry is $10 (optionally + $1 for big fish prize), 100% payback. There are about 5-6 ice events per year held on different lakes/reservoirs close to Rochester, MN.
PS. Got banned on another “hot” fishing forum earlier this week for posting about the UPLR, so I’m hoping the same doesn’t happen here on IDO.
December 13, 2013 at 4:24 pm #1371205The Ultimate Panfish League – Rochester begins tomorrow at Silver Creek Res. Google it for more info.

Crystals don’t move as they’re encased in resin at the bottom of the assembly. What you’re hearing is the lead shot at the top of the assembly used to weight the transducer so it hangs level in the hole. Long story short what you’re hearing it totally normal.
Thank You James. That’s a relief.
December 12, 2013 at 10:56 am #1370956I’m not normally one to jump on the rant bandwagon, but I had/have the exact same problem as the original poster. I got my LX9 last Feb. Used it ~5 times last year, a couple times this summer, a couple times this fall, and a few times this winter. My charger has never turned green with the original battery that came with the unit. I certainly tend to my batteries monthly throughout the summer and all of my batteries in my other flashers last 4-5 years (I have 3 flashers). About 2 weeks ago, I went to pull the LX9 off the charger and the battery was hot…not warm… HOT. Like it could have possibly been boiling the battery. My battery was totally shot. It lasted 15 minutes. I charged it up again and it got hot again and was fried. Called Marcum to see how they could help me. Their solution was to have me send in my charger and they would test it and if it was bad, they would send me a new one (otherwise they would send me my charger back). Well, I wasn’t extremely happy with their service, but I sent in my charger last Thursday… Nothing in yesterday’s mail but I’m hoping to have a new charger very soon. I’ve since been using my Vexilar charger to charge my LX9 with a brand new 9ah battery (that I had to purchase..which is fine I guess).
SideTrack. Today I used my unit next to an LX7. BTW, I love my LX9. Best unit on the market, no doubt. My buddy is an (medical) ultrasound specialist so he understand these units and the transducers. He grabbed my tranducer and shook it a bit and could hear the crystals moving around… My sonor seemed to work fine today, but according to his untrasound experience, he says I should send it in… Thoughts before I call Marcum on this transducer? The bottom is also that milky/chalky white.
December 11, 2013 at 10:13 am #1370630It’s great to see this effort take place in river systems throughout MN. Thanks for sharing!
May 24, 2013 at 6:05 pm #1173331Thank You Chris. Is there much of a night bite on the lake? Worth casting lighted slip bobbers off the dock during the nighttime? Last year we didn’t get much going at all at night. Had a good bite going in one area at right at dark it stopped suddenly. Did the fish move, or bite totally shuts off?

Don’t take any Moxie’s in white and Char./orange core.
At this time of year, is there a certain structure you’re looking for when casting plastics for eyes? Soft bottom bays? rock shorelines? Gravel? Areas with current? Is there a certain depth that is most productive right now?
I’ve got moxies and ringworms in both colors (and maybe the orange-core pulse-R)
May 23, 2013 at 2:40 pm #1173007I have some very similar questions. I’m packing the tackleboxes this weekend for a CA side Rainy Lake fishing trip next week (5/28-6/2). It’s my 2nd trip up to Rainy Lake, but conditions this year are much different than the other year I was up. I’ll be chasing the tenacious trio of walleye, pike, and smallies. At this time of year (6 days from now), is there a certain pattern/presentation that I must try for each individual species? Any recommendations on a gameplan?
April 16, 2013 at 10:42 am #1162932I’ll be up there this Wed night through the following Tuesday. Gonna be a little different year, but I guess every year is a little different. We dialed them in big time last year with spring coming a month early. This year spring is a few weeks behind the norm but I’m confident there’s fish awaiting to be caught. See you all up there.
April 15, 2013 at 6:58 pm #1162803Great post Brian. Very well written. Thanks for sharing this information.
May 29, 2012 at 4:45 pm #1071949Chris/Others, How often (or not) do you use leaders? What material? Do’s and do-nots with leaders? When / When not?
April 17, 2012 at 4:46 pm #1059760Not much banter going on here. What’s everyone thougths? Fish 4-mile bay? Up river? Have the fish begun the spawn? Completed the spawn and on their way back out? Some of both?
April 16, 2012 at 4:12 pm #1059367A big group of us from Rochester are heading up there in 2 days and most will stay till Monday-Tuesday. Most of us are staying at WigWam too. See you boys up there.
March 20, 2012 at 7:19 pm #1050833BK, Your “snagged” terminology might be a little skewed. I caught 2 on 3/17 that hammered jig and a ringworm. Unarguable mouth hooked and attacked the bait. Reliable source caught 5 in the mouth 2 days prior. I saw ~20 others caught on 3/17 and I have to guess nearly all of them were in the mouth from actual hits.
Sturgeon = snagged.. Yes.
However, the flatheads are feeding.
PS. I’d like to see this boat long sturgeon as well.
