Thanks Joe, sounds easy enough! I usually prefer getting off the beaten path, but with the recent snowfalls I imagine that would be difficult. I know green weeds is always good, but do what is a good depth to start at this time of year?

Congrats on the good bite Jesse. I didnt have time to get my boat ready so if fished from shore a bit just South of I 94, used jigs and plastics, no takers. Saw a few boats out, one of which must not have gotten the no wake memo, but not near as many boats as usual on opener. I chalked up the poor bite to water temps being too cold and the few boats because Beanies has enough parking for about 2 boats now… literally

Thanks Buschman, I’m planning on going out tomorrow night, I’ll post my report. I tend to stay away from other people for other reasons anyway so I got that part covered!

I had an inkling it was mud puppies! No I couldn’t contain my excitement and went right for the hookset. Never felt any extra weight though. Thinking I’ll relocate and try again this week, I’ll post if my luck changes!

Headed out tonight targeting sturgeon again. About 12 ‘bites detected, ie our bobbers falling off our snowmen and all with marks on the bottom. No fish on ice, exciting though!

Typically guys head out to the mud flats this time of year, focus on the sand mud transition areas around 29 to 30 FOW usually. Just make sure to check with the resorts before heading out to get the ice conditions report.

Ditto what Tegg said, saw those guys South of 94 today and made me jealous/nervous for them, that area can litteraly change by the minute. Always wanted to try it but don’t know any one who has experience with that ice to go out with.

1hl&sinker, sounds like an awesome afternoon, great report! You’re not kidding, Croix Eyes tend to be crotchety come ice over!

Great reports everyone, I didn’t have time to get the boat out so I fished from shore for a few hrs, got 1 Smallie, don’t think I got deep enough to get at the eyes, with the water so high the drop-off was out past casting distance. Can’t wait to get the boat out in a few weeks for SCVWL!
