Rapala Rippin Rap or Eurotackle Z Viber tipped with a Northland Skeleton Minnow when they’re aggressive.

When they require some finessing I like a 1/32 or 1/16oz Tungsten Jig tipped with a Northland Or Eurotackle Stone Fly or a Northland Forage Minnow spoon with a soft plastic bead or epoxy glow treble.

Check out the HT Nero auger with the drill adapter. I decided to get one to try and holy crap that sucker combined with my Milwaukee Fuel rips through the ice so fast its silly!

The Rapala Rippin rap is a great fish catching bait both open water and through the ice. This bait is often thought of as a high action bait used for aggressive fish which works great for aggressive fish but often is a great bait for neutral to negative fish. I have found many times through the ice when fish are coming in and looking at baits and just won’t bite that switching over to the Rippin Rap and using it somewhat aggressively not stopping the bait and not allowing the fish to really look at the bait too long they will often just come up and strike the bait.

That happens to me often. Funny we would think they would almost spook them away in those instances. Can’t say it’s a surefire thing but sure works more often than not.

I have found is trigger x mustache worm. Very lively action and balances a jig very well. I have had many trips where live bait didn’t even come on the ice with me and I caught just as many bluegills.

Mustache worm is a great one too

Shimano Sienna and Pflueger Trions have done me well. And it gets darn cold up here in Canada.

I just picked up one of the new Shimano Convergeance rods in Medium Light today. Going to be great rod for the ultralight rippin raps and spoons. Will be a one two punch with it and my Bullwhip for jumbos this winter!

A 32″ Tuned Up Custom Fusion is IMO the perfect rod for specifically targeting perch.

Will, does the Fusion still have a fast tip or more of a moderate action.

The Fusion action is similar to the Precision. Both would be considered fast. The Fusion is just not a quick as the extra-fast Quick Tip

Dan I have only used the Bullwhip. I’ve been looking myself for something a bit longer and more sensitive feel. Would be fishing the small rippin raps while searching for schools of jumbos. Being 6’4 I get tired of kneeling down with my 32″ Bullwhip lol

What’s the best line size for the bullwhip?

Tim I have run from 2lb – 4lb mono and fluoro. At the end of last year I decided to run a 6lb Sufix Performance Ice Braid as a main line and about 30 feet of fluoro in whatever poundage I needed for that particular trip.

I have a 32″ Bullwhip and as Ryan said it’s great for both size 3 and 4 rippin raps and also 1/16oz – 1/8oz spoons and jigs. I use mine for bluegills, crappie and jumbo perch.

I’ve caught some decent sized walleye and bass on 3lb p-line so I think you’re safe. That said I use mostly 4lb for almost everything now besides a couple small jig rods.

Well I feel stupid now. I keep getting angry when my fluoro is in a mess on that reel when I go to take it out of the case…. makes sense now lol

Put hockey tape on sticky side out where your electrical tape will touch. Damaged Cork problem solved.

Thanks for all the input everyone i have ordered a Ceymar 10 and a Sienna 1000

Can’t go wrong with either. I don’t personally have any experience with the Okuma Ceymar but it seems to have great reviews. I have Shimano Sienna’s on some rods and I’ve been happy with them. They’re a popular choice for many. I tried a Pflueger Trion on my Bullwhip this past weekend and really like it as well.

I did well with them for perch last year. I swapped the bottom treble out for a VMC glow epoxy treble and never had to tip it with bait.

I don’t think you’ll find many deals on TUCR’s if any at all. But you get what you pay for! I love my Bullwhip and plan on getting a few more of their rods next season.

I just got one of those Andy I think it said it was made out of a hockey stick. Awesome looking scoop. And Chris great idea !! waytogo

That they are Glen…”The Big DipperTM Hockey Stick Ice Scoop…

What I haven’t been able to determine is if they use the Christian Bros sticks (high end) or the cheap Northland sticks which I’d snap one every game.

Wait what? Hockey sticks used to be made out of wood?! ???????? lol
