The solution is simple, right? Go upstream, plant substantial prairie buffer around streams and rivers, then restore many large, absorbent wetlands wherever possible. Rip rap will help some….. I guess kinda like CRP and roadside plantings but on a much larger scale. We need these actions to be taken in Iowa as well. I hope to see the day these realizations are met and somehow, someway action is taken.

December 18, 2008 at 6:48 pm #729897I recently recieved my AA Plus suit in the mail. Tried it out for the first time last night while planing lumber in -10 degree wind chills…I was getting hot…gloves are awesome as well, almost got in the tub to see if she would float me after being so impressed with the warmth. BTW I am 6’3 250, usually wear Tall clothing, and the XL suit fits perfect.

May 7, 2007 at 3:35 am #568490Been fishin the Iowa all over the place recently. White bass were going crazy for a while, and the past couple of days have resulted in some nice crappie and walleye/saugeye. All caught on jigs and plastics, minnows, or worms. Fish were biting below the tube and down by burlington st.
March 28, 2007 at 5:43 am #554201I havent been fishin the cedar yet this year but it and the iowa both seem to be dropping a lil bit.
March 12, 2007 at 3:00 am #547651hey all,
fished the wapsi under the dam in anamosa today. No fish. I had no signs of fish, bites or looks, and did not see any of the other 4-6 anglers come close either. Water was real cold and real dirty. Tried jigs w/ various plastics, and an xrap, others were using minnows. Im thinking in a couple more days the bite will pick up a bit.
-bobMarch 8, 2007 at 5:36 pm #546451Thanks for the info….I am a usually a big minnow fan myself… but it was just one of those grab and go type of nights. I have traditionally fished the west side of the tube as well but I dont think I have tried by the power lines for some reason or another but Its on my list the next time I head out…hopefully sat. -bob
March 8, 2007 at 4:49 am #546272Well fished the Iowa under the tube a bit this evening. Threw a couple different jig/tube setups around the boat ramp for a while….but caught nothing. Lot of frozen foam on the water, as well as a lot of shad going belly up. Still pretty icy in some areas. -bob
February 22, 2007 at 3:43 pm #540122I was also out on Macbride yesterday. I was using minnows and I noticed several fish on the vex that would follow for about 5 ft but I couldn’t get any to hit. Anyway we were out from 7-9, didn’t catch any fish but there was still plenty of Ice everywhere we went…even found about 16″ still in one spot.
February 15, 2007 at 5:00 am #537164I would have taken catching a “brown trout” today. Hit the ice at McBride around 8:00. Fished till noon….nothing….marked a couple fish on the vex(my first time using one) and had not even a nibble on waxies or minnows. Ended up fishing the slackwater pool right under the tube in coralville, marked a couple fish, but continued the skunking. After this I figured anything was worth a try so I went down to the treatment pond. There was plenty of ice but still no bithing fish, yet I think I marked a couple on a nice drop, yet still no bites. Quit round 4:00.
I think the fishing gods were a little pissed I decided to go electronic. However it sure is fun watching your jig on the flasher…kept me entertained through one long…loooong day.February 11, 2007 at 7:59 am #535361Luke,
I understand what your saying. I also find it interesting that it is illegal to fish because I have talked to a police officer there on one occasion and some others who were in white city vehicles, both just said hello and good luck. Anyway hopefully the city gets things in gear and opens it up legally because it seems to be a decent spot, especially for being so close.I was also wondering if anyone knew about the water treatment ponds off Dubuque street by the river, right north of the interstate. I’m hoping to make it out there on the ice soon, I would assume there might be some eyes in there…being so close to the river and all.
February 10, 2007 at 5:53 pm #535233Hey all
I have fished the pits down off sand road several times within the past 6 months or so. I have no idea about the legalities involved but I have been down there and talked to city officials on multiple occasions without encountering any problems. Got into some good messes of gills down there but haven’t hit any of the BIG bass or crappies I have heard others talking about.
