interesting, I really don’t have any ideas on things that companies can improve on or any cool new features…

I picked up the Garmin Panoptix ice bundle a couple of months ago and have used it a handful of times this winter. it is amazing being able to go out to a lake I’ve never fished before, pick out an area on the maps that looks like it will hold fish, drill one hole and scan the entire area and fish the fish immediately. and the down vu is really fun to see the fish come in 8-10 feet away. I learned a lot about how walleyes react to my bait as well, it has helped me fish the ripping rap and jigging rap style baits and I’m starting to become more effective at catching those “come and take a look” walleye.
I haven’t used my lx-7 or my underwater camera since buying the panoptix…
the steep price tag made me very hesitant but I’m glad I ended up purchasing it.

December 5, 2018 at 6:17 pm #1815332Hello, so im looking at getting into the sport of ice fishing. I do own some small ammount of gear( 2 rods, 3 tip ups, and a handful of tackle) I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out a deacnt auger and fish finder that wont completely break the bank? I am on a low income so cant exactly drop 500 on a lithium 40v auger. Id love to spend max 400 but if i really cant for what i need to get i guess thats how it will be. A recommendation for a shelter for either one or two people would also be nice if you could recommend some things. Thanks
I have my first ice house which is a pop up eskimo fits 2 people, I used it maybe three times two winters ago before I got a bigger one as a Christmas gift, and honestly I never use it anymore. id give it to you for 75 dollars if you wanted it. its basically brand new. PM me if your interested.

December 13, 2017 at 10:08 pm #1735513I have the aqua-vu 715 color camera, 299 at cabelas and I also bought the marcum camera panner. drill a hole outside the house and cover it with a jacket and you can move the camera around via a remote. the color screen is amazing and works on almost every lake I’ve used it on. and it was pretty cheap as far as cameras go. Haven’t used the recon but I really love the aqua-vu version. just my two cents.
December 10, 2017 at 11:02 pm #1734480I know a lot of people go up to Leech to chase the Walleye or Pout. I’m taking my Dad up there in a few weeks and have only fished the lake once in my life. We’re looking for some tips on crappies and gills. Any help would be great. I’m trying to make it a great experience for my old man and myself. Thanks!
I would stick to the bays, ask around at a bait shop for tips. Like Trent said, people are generally not going to give away info about the crappies.
December 10, 2017 at 5:08 pm #1734394Assuming you are wanting this for ice fishing.
Before I purchased the marcum lx-6, I had the showdown troller 2. It’s a really good unit for people using a flasher for the first time. I believe it is around 200 at cabelas.
If you want one with more features you can always look to craigslist or Facebook market place for a used unit.
December 7, 2017 at 2:40 pm #1733688all of the Facebook pages I have checked today are allowing foot, atv, side by side traffic. One or two are allowing single axle wheel houses. I would recommend going through a resort and stopping inside and talking to someone. Get a map of the good and bad areas before you venture out. Was up last weekend out of Morts Dock. Great guy and easy access, he explained the ice and told me the places that were good and bad, we measured between 9-13 inches of ice last Saturday
Ill be heading up this Saturday morning out of morts docks again, so if you see a Polaris pro rmk and Cabelas 4 man pop up, say hello!
Goodluck, stay safe, and keep the lines tight.

December 4, 2017 at 7:21 pm #1732783white gave you some very good advice^
you could also hit that southern point and work that inside turn and start drilling holes from deep up to shallow and drop the transducer down to see if any fish are there.
December 4, 2017 at 7:12 pm #1732782thank you! yeah never understood taking more than one would eat for dinner.
December 3, 2017 at 9:04 pm #1732530called mort from morts dock, he said the ice where he was telling people to go was perfectly safe, ended up going and having a great time Saturday, me and two buddies walked out to about 11 feet and set up camp. caught about 30 walleyes and took home two fish each.
December 15, 2016 at 7:42 am #1657327For my first flasher I purchased an FL18, loved it and thought it was the best option. Buddy of mine had an LX 6 so I tried it, was so impressed with all the features and the LCD screen that I went and traded my vex in to get the marcum that same day, never looked back since.
December 8, 2016 at 7:48 am #1655434Im almost positive that it is illegal to even use these in minnesota so if you are located here in mn I would check to make sure before you use them.
December 5, 2016 at 8:59 am #1654665IMHO I think it is worth the money to buy the TUCR Precision Ice Rod. This thing is amazing, has a good tip with lots of feel, but also a good backbone for when you hook up into a decent one. Pair that with a good shimano ice reel at Cabela’s and you’ve got yourself a perfect setup.
