I used to (and still do) drool over the pictures of the big walleyes that come from the Columbia every year. Now I live out west and it’s one of the closer walleye options I have. I’m going to send you a PM.

I got the lowdown on the river and it’s not to good down this way. Maybe I’ll be out there tomorrow anyway. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Everyone remember that guns shoot differently. Just because a certain shell works well in your buddies gun doesn’t mean it will in yours. Pattern your gun with different shells and a piece of paper, shoot lots of clays, try different chokes, and see what works well for you and your gun.

I’ve been fishing the Cedar around Vinton alot lately. It’s been very slow, the super low water has changed things.

Such an enthusiastic view of Coralville from someone who’s actually fished there? All kidding aside, I fish it alot more than I care to admit and it is spotty at best for walleyes. Usually you can get them in a very small spot when something specific is happening (like flood stage, high winds, or ice-out). Below the dam used to be very good, about 10 years ago. Now I spend a day every week or two down there from fall through spring and I do well about 1 in 10 trips. I do alot better for numbers and size in Pleasant Creek, Mac Bride, the Wapsi, and even the Cedar. But, Coralville is a catfish factory.

Gianni, there’s no channel there at all. It’s all bedrock and varies from 6″ to 3′ all the way across. There’s a plunge pool where the water comes down, but you can get within 20′ of the dam and be knee deep. Send me a PM if you get a chance. It looks like we fish a lot of the same water.

Len, could you email me some specifics on what to bring, how much does it cost for a ride to the dam, etc? Might make it up this weekend or next. [email protected]

Just thought I’d let everyone know I was at Cassville (Bertram L.) on Friday, and it was so dead there should have been a cross at the entrance. Beautiful spot to fish, though.
