Swivel,
Are you fishing the south end or North end? Want to put these kids on fish to get them hooked! Sounds like a great bite. Kid and I are excited to head north…
Thanks everyone for your help…

Make sure you know what all your friends you fish with use. For me if you have all Vexlars in or close to the house, everything is fine. Mix a LX7 or LX9 with a ice castle full of vexlars, lot of interference and you will find youself fishing for fish you think are fish but find out if your Marcum buddy turns off his unit nothing is there. (you find that out after jigging for 2 hours after nothing:)
Either way you go you cannot fish blind. Showdown is a good first option.
Thanks for the updated report. We are going out of Rogers and also going to search for deeper water without the crowds. We are all excited to drill that fist hole. I hope to report back with lots of fish and good memories.
Thanks for the heads up. Will post new and see what comes up…. Sounds like Basin bite is starting and we are excited to give it a shot..
Sad to see not much activity on the IDO site this year.
Exactly> See above. not one person responded. That’s sad.
Has anyone Tried the WEEDs early and late at night for the troll bite? I have not been on the lake for a year and my best bite (in past years) is early and late off the weed in shallow 8-12 with stick baits.(South End) Sad to see not much activity on the IDO site this year. Any advise for a 2 day trip would be greatly appreciated…
Sorry for that long delay! We are coming up the week after opener. Staying in Walker. I understand the lake is as big as the big pond of Mille Lac( we are use to Large waves) and we are open to travel as we have a large Ranger with power. Thanks for all the insight and we hope to keep leech as our opener spot. Always fun trying something new! eace
Planning on a trip overnight to Clear tomorrow. Any tips to provide. Have a friend and 2 kids. In the past the lake has not disappointed. Lot of sunnys and a occasional pike. Any tips would be great?
We have 2 groups going this weekend and all we do is pull cranks. Last year we had 25 fish over 24 inches and many of those were 27 28s.All during the day. Pulling cranks on the north end on the sand was best last year, this year is different. Make sure you have line counters it helps dial in the perfect number. I have noticed running baits up even 5 feet off bottom produces more fish than the ones on the bottom. Ticking bottoms is not always best is what we have found. Good luck this weekend.
Were you on the Big pond or on the river? I hit Lake Pepin today and had those numbers in 7 to 10 feet as well. Good for you trying those depths. Not may fisherman have the guts to hang in that depth on opener. Just wondering and making sure you were on Mille Lacs. Heading up in a few days. Did you have planner boards on? What was the best color. Thanks for the help.
I was out last wednesday and I drilled about 20 holes between Ponderosa and rattle snake just to check and see if I would be able to get the big house out and found as little as 9 inches in one spot and 14 in the next. Make sure you know the thinkness ahead of you is all i can say. Needless to say my big house never got on the lake that day.
I also have had a problem with my Terrova. I notice that in 10 min is will just shut off completely. When I use the I pilot remote the power shuts of also. I will also be contacting Minn kota about my issue. I purchased it from cabelas this spring and 1200 dollars it better work better than it did this summer. Anyone else?
Steve, I can sent you a photo of what works for me. I use 2 6×8 boxes from staples and use rubber bands to tie the hooks together so they do not get tangled up. I have been searching for the magic box and this is the way to go. Basically it is like digging through a stack of pencil to pick out the bait you want to use and taking the rubber band off and snapping it on you line. If you would like send me your email and I will send you a photo of what I got. Give this a shot. You will be impressed and save a lot of space in your tackel box this year.
