appreciate all the help. I was blessed with a wife and 9 yr. old that will fish from dawn till dusk. It gets really frustrating when the 7 year old starts in with the “can we go now” after an hour or two. Guess all fathers have been there an done that. I know the camera is not the perfect answer but if it gets me a coulpe more hours it will be worth it till he gets bit with the fishing bug. (cross your fingers for me)

one trick i have always used is to tie my snagless sinker with a standard trilene knot (once thru the eye of the sinker barrel swivel) and use an improved trilene knot for my drop line(twice thru the eye of the 3 way or in this case sliding barrel swivel). this way if your sinker hangs it will brake there and u will get everyhing but sinker back. the barrel swivel and split shot work fine but are much snagger than a pencil sinker on wing dams and riprap. good luck

i just got back from taking my son out on the youth hunt near DBQ. they were just finishing up the beans and all the corn was still standing. farmer said he saw “lots” of birds while he was picking. we only saw hens. keep picking boys!

thanks very much for the replies guys. really appreciate the help. all i have to go on is my river charts. is De Soto the first shoot on the far E. side just north of the town of De Soto? the one that hugs the RR tracks? also should i go into Winneshiek from the very head just south of De Soto or should i take the tube just South of the Big Lake daymarker that goes in straight East about half way between the start and the bridge?? Also I have a Minn. family license if there is something farther North. THANKS!!

one tec that works well is to canoe along the shoreline right where the transition between where u can see the bottom and where u can no longer see it is. if the shore line is on your right, run a shallow running lure on that pole (in-line spinner, floating rap….) on your left a deep diving crank bait. you will catch fish!! anchor the poles down good!!
