I do this the the bwca. Take an anchor (or a rock) tie a carabiner about 5 feet up from the anchor, clip your bait bucket to the carabiner, and put a float at the top of the rope (dependent on depth). I usually use a milk jug for the float.
In the bwca, usually you can get pretty deep right off shore, so rather than a float, i would tie off the anchor line to a tree. You could probably use your boat cleet.
Thanks for the heads up, ive been using zyn for the past 2 weeks after making the decision to quit after 18 years of various flavors of longcut.
The zyn seems to be working to cut the edge and I’ve been tobacco free 2 weeks straight. This is the longest ive gone in 18 years without throwing a dip in, hoping i can ween the crutch at some point, but just glad im able to give my gums a rest. At that price point, I think ill be switching to the velos.
Im assuming they are pouches, too?
Heading up to leech for the weekend with a handful of buddies. Many times the jaw jacking beats the fishing, but this year is looking good for both.
Good luck everyone.
Doge has a $76 BILLION market cap. Thats $10 billion more than boston scientific with no intrinsic value.
Putting $20k all in on any single stock or crypto wouldnt be something i would suggest.
Brewery builder, have you looked into a back door roth? Other than that, i believe you’ve tapped your tax advantaged options.
Another option is to run your bow mount trolling motor in reverse to slow your troll. Ive done this in the past to get a lower trolling speed. Easier boat control vs. having a sock hang over the side. Your probably not going to get a full 12 hour day of trolling done with that set up due to battery limits on the bow mount.
Ive got a 200 hp verado and was told i shouldnt expect to get down below 2mph with the troll control. My unit trolls around 2.4 mph as is. Different moter, i know. But my guess is that 1.5 is not achievable with just the troll control on your 115 horse.
IMO, Lots of pumping and soon to be dumping with the cryptos. Too much unknown surrounding those for me to put any money into them. Fun to watch, though.
Ive been interested in the pot stocks recently, wish i would have jumped on TLRY, when a buddy told me about it, but 20/20 hindsight will drive you nuts.
IMO, One big driver to this bull market is exactly what we’re seeing on this site, more people are dipping their toes into the market outside of the traditional 401k, 403b, IRA, ect. Its much easier for a simpleton like myself to throw a couple bucks at a ticker. Robinhood for example has made it so easy and pioneered the free trade trend that more or less was picked up by most if not all traditional trading platforms.
I used to have to pay $10 to buy a stock no matter what my initial investment was through e-trade. So it was tough to justify investing anything less than $500. Free trading gives the confidence to take a shot.
If it aint broke, dont go through the hassle. The old 24 worked for your fishing style, no need to change.
Ive always liked the idea of the magnetic lights, but all my poles are aluminum.
Another vote here for puerto rico. No passport, dollar currency, and cheap fishing opportunities. If you can make it over to vieques, rent a 4×4 and explore the islands beaches. Also check out an El Yunque rainforest tour, you traverese about 1500 vert down a river by repelling waterfalls, clif jumping, and wading your way to the pickup point. Think rockclimbing downhill in a rainforest.
Ive got an 18′ and am reluctant to say i pay for on star. after the free 6 month promo, i asked to cancel, they knocked the price down to $10/ month, i said fine. I cant say its worth it, but peace of mind is worth something.
That, my friend, is just a risk im willing to take. I guess i just like to live dangerously.
The lower psi will allow for a wider footprint which benefits traction in snow and sand. I air down to about 5 on my ranger when im loosing traction in the snow and it helps quite a bit. Just dont get too crazy on the throttle. If you go too low, youll need bead locks to keep the tire on the rim or youll be in a world of hurt.
Ive got a rip rap shoreline thats pretty steep, i can climb right up it with low tire pressure because the tire will more or less grab ahold of the rocks.
Ive got a gmc sierra, ill lock my keys in the truck and use the onstar app or mygmc app to unlock and/or start my truck from miles away. This is mainly while ice fishing or in the boat when i didnt want to risk losing the keys down the hole. I always have my phone with me in those situations, but i dont think this would be a convienient option for your situation.
My buddy keeps a spare key in a lock box in his truck bed, works for him and its not like he is advertising it.
If you have no concerns about theft, dont lock the doors.
Ive been keeping a lot more 22-24″ fish for the pan on leech. Obviously not trophy in my book, but also not considered a “good eater”. My taste buds cant tell the difference when cubed, fried, and served in tacos. IMO leech has been negatively impacted by their slot, protecting those 20-26″ fish for the past decade. Just too much biomass in the lake coupled with minimal weed growth. Last years change allowing the bigger fish to get pulled out of the system was a good move by the DNR, IMO. Keep whats legal and you wont hear anything negative out of my mouth.
My favorite way to eat spam:
Cut it about 3/8 thick at most, so you have a handfull of 1.5″x3″ slices.
Fry in a pan with no oil at mediun until the outsides are crispy. About 5+ minutes a side.
Scramble up some eggs and make some toast.
Make a sandwich with 2 scrambled eggs, a layer of spam, and your prefered salsa. Nothin better.
All in all i think its best when you have some crisp on the outside.
And without kids all your time and money is consumed on a fishing forum… kids are expensive, but probably the best return on investment ive ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Even with kids, im seeing my savings grow. But to the point of a previous poster, my purchasing power is sinking.
After posting this 1.5 years ago i went with an 18′ sierra with the 6.2. I get 18.6 MPG average per the computer after putting 26k on the truck. Ive gotten as much as 26 with a strong tailwind on a trip to colorado. It pulls my 20 foot tin boat like a dream. And its a sportscar compared to my 11′ silverado 1500 with the 5.3. The 98 mph governor kicks in seemingly out of nowhere, sometimes…
Congrats Bucky! Our first is turning 3 on 10/20. We’re on the practice field working on a second currently. Great advice so far.
One thing I’ll add that made my wifes life much more enjoyable is taking the amma parenting classes. The classes are made up of all new mothers and newborns. It’s a great resource/group to bounce things off of. There is only so much a bunch of outdoors minded folks like us can provide. This class will connect your wife with 5 to 7 new mothers that are all trying to figure it out as well. My wife still stays in touch with a few of the mothers she met in this class.
Kevin, no apology needed. Sorry for opening the can of worms questioning your identity.
I’m a fan of the shorter rods for vertical jigging as well, I use a 6’3″ st. Croix Avid. When long lining jigs, I prefer a 7′ 2″.
Limit creek is also in my arsenal, not the smoothie, but their 8′ 3″ telescoping spinning rod. I exclusively use this one for bobber fishing. The reason I bring it up is that their customer service is second to none.
I was hesitant ordering one without getting my hands on it prior to purchase, but with minimal other options in the 8’+ arena, I pulled the trigger anyway. it showed up in two pieces snapped right in half. called C.S. and had a complete rod the next day.
