Right now temp. Ok I’m done. 2 reels sat outside all night and didn’t stiffen. Reelspeed grease worked in carbon washer then grease wiped off, then reelspeed plus again on washer for the drag. Reelspeed plus inside of main bearing, and on gears reelspeed plus then more passload oil. Both reels smooth as room temp.

Thanks. What kind of cold weather grease? I’ve tried the cals purple and the reelspeed greas in that pic and they both get hard in the cold. I tested another reel over night in cold with a tiny bit of grease inside the reel on the gears and it stiffened up quick. Tried mixing it with that reelspeed plus. Didn’t work. I got the drag figured out. I did put all carbon washers in the drag. Still trying to figure out if oil only on the main gears inside the reel.

Now I’m back in business. These were breaking my 2 lb test. The last one that broke me off I’m pretty sure was the roller on the bail stiffening up.

Yesterday put 2 reels outside in -10 for 24 hrs. I tested one reel with greased carbon washer wiped off then added reelspeed plus over it and Super smooth. Other reel completely dry Carbon washer with reelspeed extreme plus lube only, didn’t freeze at all or stiffen but a tiny bit sticky. The inside of the reels and main bearing still only have the nail gun oil in them. Gonna test with the reelspeed lube on them tonite. One reel with a tiny bit of grease on the big gears and one with the reelspeed plus only.

Well I’ve been testing in -10 or colder weather for the last month. I ordered the reelspeed lube products but took a cple weeks to come in the mail. I completely removed all grease with wd-40 and put pas lode cold weather nail gun oil in all parts of the reel. It worked didn’t stiffen at all. This actually might work better with the felt washer instead of the carbon because with the carbon was alittle sticky. But nothing stiffened up in -15

Thanks. I just ordered the carbontex washers for all my reels from smooth drag. So just use the grease that comes with them ? That they recommend ? Not oil? I called them they said use the grease. I suppose some other products good damage the washers.

I was wondering about that also I’m sure those things suck up moisture and it stays. I’ve never messed with the drag washers we’ll see tonite. What site do recommend for the replacemt washers ?

High of 7 this wknd usually below zero though. Ok good. The drags haven’t froze completely but as if you turned it 6 clicks tighter. Too tight for 2 lb test. I’m working in Nd but I should be able to find some oil so just try and get all the grease out in the siennas washers and put lightest coat of oil? I might have the blue Lucas oil in my ice fishing bag.

Sorry for bringing up the infamous 16 incher. Was supposed to see a pic on a tape. Ya these guys on this lake don’t catch em. They’re callin 11”,s big yesterday. lol and I’ve caught 80 perch a wknd and haven’t seen bigger than a 11. Just wanted to say that didn’t wanna be the guys that says people catch 16”,s without a pic on a tape.

I’ve been using the mud mixer for 2nd season now along with my brother with the regular fuel drill. I chose the mud mixer for alittle more torque for a 8” kdrill. I’ve called Milwaukee they won’t say on the torque but it’s more. Also with a clam plate. (You just flip the plate with the c on it the opposite way than the instructions say) We’re both using a 6” laser for panfish and the time it takes to drill a hole is the same. The mud mixer is alittle heavier if your chasin panfish and drilling 300 holes a day. The only issue I’ve ever had is
That it stops if it’s a warm day and your drilling 20 holes in a row. It’s a safety feature so ya can’t burn it up. That had only happened to me once though. Ya just have to wait cple minutes and it’ll work again. And I took the spinning handle off cause it’s just in the way on the clam plate.

Finnaly got to use the quicktip today, it’s perfect for the rippin rap. And also bought the bullwhip for 4,5mm and plastics. Yep they’re awesome. I got a nice 12.75” perch then a school of baby 5” crappies came in and could feel and see the bites still on the quick tip.

Thanks a lot. I’m wanting it for heavier side panfish sooons. I’ve found some small bodies of water with 16” supposedly crappie and verified 16” perch so I’m using small walleye /large panfish stuff. My first time fishing it last sat I caught quite a few 8-11” perch on Crappie fatheads , but the 2 big fish I lost in the hole probably 14”,s hit the only 2 walleye size fatheads I had so gonna try bigger next wknd. I’m proabably gonna start with a 6mm/plastic and 1/8 tingler, and small slab raps ,rippin raps I think I’m goin quick tip. By the website It looks like what I’m looking for is the quick tip or the fusion. I have called tuned up and left message but I’m sure they’re pretty busy. I have a bunch of legend blacks right now with custom spring bobbers I put on that I like for a 2-4 mm tungsten a but too light for the bigger stuff. And have cple st Croix avid med/light but the med light is still pretty stiff.

I just used the 55 lb r3 for first time on the river and I’m pretty sure it drained the battery way faster than the minn Kota. Only lasted 2 hrs goin downstream. There’s a lot of variables in that but my old minn Kota lasted longer for sure

I agree I haven’t seen over 9.25 yet this year out of hundreds of gills. People say they caught em but no pics. I have a vid if 10.5 last year I’ll see if this site will let me post it. And my other trick this last Sunday was downsized to a 2mm from a 4

Thanks. Yep it is amazing how finicky they are if you change the cadence. They’ll be gone. This last Sunday it was pretty aggressive cadence to get em excited, then kept sane cadence but slowed down almost to deadstick but not quite and stopped raising it after about a a 3 ft chase. If I kept raising theyde turn away. I could see all the people around me continue to raise like ya normally do and they weren’t catching a single fish with the same bait as me. (6hrs). So that day I stuck to that and caught fish just about every 2,3 min

And here was the average size we caught this last Sunday once I figured out how to catch em. On public pressured lake

One of the gills just caught off the dock in summer at that private lake. Don’t know if I’m goin back. Private lake buddy’s kinda mad I’m not giving up the ice team guys spots. I’m not screwing up the invite with the ice team guys.

Well I learned a lot last 2 wknds. I did go to that private lake with the big gills. (With a bunch of guys that pretty much partied and just put tip ups for pike out so I fished alone. Lol) we started deep(basin 40ft). I left there started looking for gills shallower, got to 25 ft found some caught dinks on tungstens so tried James green uv 1/16 or 1/8 flash champ and was still catching only 6,7” then a guy caught 16.5 crappie so I I went back out to basin. just caught on a bobber and minnow so wasn’t any skill in that. Then these guys wanna leave at 4 pm right at prime time so that was it. Fish in every hole was just hard to weed out dinks. My brother backed out with his Milwaukee/6” laser to hole hop also. Only had a old gas auger with dull blades that took about 7 min per hole so that screwed me also, but did catch probably 80 crappies with a slab rap and plastics on tungstens but never caught over a 14”.(mostly 7-9”)I did go with the ice team guys on public the next wknd and finnaly caught around 70 8-9.5” gills sat/sun consistently while 40-60 other people weren’t catching any. The closer was they were biting the whole time and I didn’t know it. That’s what the pro guys said and they were right. I got 2lb frost fluero sunline . Stretched it out so there wasn’t a wrinkle in 30 ft and watched for the tiniest flicker on my spring bobber. Or looking for the spring bobber goin up. That was the difference between a 70-100 fish day and a 10 fish day the previous visit to that same spot on the same lake. Even the dinks weren’t letting
That slab rap make it to the bottom. Maybe should of used walleye size. Only had half a day after the drive and leaving at 4

Thanks. Supposedly I’m gettin to fish a lake where 12” fish live this sat with a different guy see how it goes. Yesterday I tried stopping the cadence when the 2 marks met then slow raise. It worked but just found crappies. They were much easier too catch.

Thanks. Your right on color vs lure presentation cause he doesn’t change. And when we’re on fish he doesnt stay long in a hole. Your right on that too. He’s probably passing on non-aggressive fish in 1 hole and moves 3 ft over and catches an aggressive one first drop and keeps moving.Im probably wasting more time on some finickier fish than he is.
