I’ve also got a non-TC LX3 that needs some work so I went up to the repair facility and asked about upgrading to TC. They no longer do the upgrade, rather you need to buy a brand new head in order to get the TC.

Runs $149 for a new head direct from them. Wish they still did just the upgrade, but they did them regularly for $49 a couple seasons ago and then only did a few last season. Now you just need to buy a brand new head.

Yep. Called to Cabela’s and Gander AND Scheels and none of them carry MarCum ice-ducers. Looks like I’ll be heading up to the headquarters to pick up a new one.

Couldn’t agree with you more! I have a transducer issue with mine but didn’t know that til I took it up there. They looked at it, tested it all out, and told me what the problem was in no more than 10 minutes. Good luck and I hope it isn’t too big of a dent on the wallet to fix.

I have the EXACT same problem as you’re having and it’s a ducer issue. I went up to the headquarters in Minneapolis and they looked at it and found that it was the ducer. I’m going to pick up a new one from them within a couple of days and will test it out and let you know how it works. Unfortunately for me, the head is the old style and they won’t upgrade to TC without putting a new head on it. At $149 for a new TC head, I think I can get by with red, orange, and yellow for a few years.

Those are memories that I haven’t forgotten and I’m sure Alex won’t forget them either!

I have taken great care of it since I’ve owned it, putting the transducer away and making sure it’s all tucked away nicely in the bag when I’ve decided it’s time to head home. The guy I bought it from said that he hadn’t used it in a year (he bought an LX-5, I believe) so I’m guessing that has a part to play in this dilemma as well.

I’m going to hit up Cabela’s (since I have a gift card with some balance on it) here pretty quick and pick up a new ‘ducer to try and solve this issue. I’ll make sure to take excellent care of the machine as a whole as well, I’m not going to beat it up so I have to invest more money in either a new machine or more repairs for this one.

They do have them, but I have a gift card for Cabela’s so I’ll get the ‘ducer for almost free with the $$ the guy I bought it from is pitching in. Looks like I shoulda just thought my options through before posting this thread. lol Hoping this will solve my problems and I can get back on the ice with a fully functional LX-3 to aid me!

Alright, you guys have convinced me

The guy I bought it from didn’t ever have this problem so he has been very willing to help make it right and is going to pitch in some $$ to help defray the cost. Would they have them at Cabela’s? I imagine they do but I guess you can’t really say til you get there or call ’em.

    Thanks for the input!
