I have a Gruman Sport Canoe that has a 6 hp motor. I had a mounting plate made for a bow mount trolling motor. The bow mount has greatly aided in canoe control and makes it easy to slip with the current. The motor handle extension allows me to move forward in the canoe to get on plain. The canoe will top out at 18 MPH when I’m traveling alone. I love the Croix above the high bridge. The canoe hardly leaves a ripple in the water when it is traveling full speed.

We are looking to buy a second canoe for gear stowage. Remote camping has it’s limitations.

    Take care,

Amazing how the river is rising in Stillwater when it peaked a weak ago up in Taylors Falls. The River has dropped 4′ since last Tuesday 20 miles north. Only 3′ from it’s summer low level.

Temperature is up to 41 degrees…It wont be long until the white bass run begins!

    Thanks for the report !

The croix is narrow and shallow…speaking as one who has only ventured south of the high bridge twice since ’77.

    Take care,

    ethical zeal…

    Main Entry: zeal•ot

    Pronunciation: \ˈze-lət\

    Function: noun

Etymology: Late Latin zelotes, from Greek zēlōtēs, from zēlos

    Date: 1537

1capitalized : a member of a fanatical sect arising in Judea during the first century a.d. and militantly opposing the Roman domination of Palestine

    2: a zealous person ; especially : a fanatical partisan <a religious zealot>

Wow, problem with zeal it often turns to zealots. How does one become so smug and close minded?

I spoke to a biologist who works for the company that makes the fish tracking equipment in Isanti. He claims that different species act and migrate differently. Even within a species, such as pike and muskellunge only the dominate fish, the largest, tend to be more territorial. The others move over a much larger range. He has seen movement of over 20 miles during the warm months. It was his feelings that it may have slowed the movement slightly but would not have a major impact on the system.

I do not want to seem harsh but too many people read one or two articles and claim to become experts on a subject. They close out all other views and act holier than thou…drives me crazy. Keep in mind this was only another opinion.

The area already has a natural barrier in the summer, the arcola sand bar, that keeps the big tuna boats from coming north.

    Enjoy the St. Croix.

I am no cat expert but we had some luck.

Based on your pictures from last year and your first trip out this year, I’m looking forward to my first trip!

Good luck in the Taylors Falls Cat Fishing Tourny on Saturday!

The season ended last Tuesday and the County Fair ended yesterday! My summer officially begins…

Even though I have never fished for Catfish and read the posts on the St. Croix almost daily, I truly enjoy and look forward to Steve’s Posts. I will even admit to checking out some of his tips on the cat and Sturgeon site. I welcome anyone’s knowledgeable posts and look foreword to the day that Suzuki makes one!

You can use Microsofts Map program in the aerial view (http://maps.live.com/?q=minnesota&mkt=en-US&FORM=BYRE)and zoom in on the river. You can see all of the sand bars and it will give you an idea of the problem navigation areas.

You will need to get out and push through some of the channels. Keep in mind that the sand bars move slightly from year to year. It is a fun area to fish, you never know what you might find.

We catch a ton of fish on 1/8 oz jig with ring worms. Both Walleyes and smallmouth…

    Have fun exploring.

1/16th oz metalic gold jig, with eyes with a purple worm and white tail. Dragging on the sand/gravel.

    Fish on!

I teach Sunday School @ St. Francis Xavier and I drove down to the landing about 4 weeks ago. No signs changed…

We have had good luck with the white bass in the spring. The spots get hit pretty hard. If you go shore fishing the best spots are taken early and the family’s bring the kids and look to be trying to catch a limit for the whole clan

We have are best luck for Crappies in the Fall. Can’t seem to find them in the spring. I have tried to find spawning areas with no luck. But have only tried a few times…

Have fun the scenery is always great even when the fishing is slow!
