I think the only problem with this is the DNR is run by the commissioner, who is appointed by a Governor who is bought and paid for by the tribes and the teacher’s union.

I could let this one go, but I can’t…leave the teachers out of this one. He’s handily screwing us right now, too, and has been for awhile. Most are plenty unhappy with him and would be happy for a change. But this is BS for Mille Lacs. One of my favorite places to fish.

Anybody have experience with the Suzuki king quads? I’m finding some but don’t know much about them.

I bought a 2017 King Quad 750 brand new. I’ve got 2,300 miles on it now. Just starting to give my problems now. I don’t overly abuse it, but I also don’t baby it. It gets regular use. It’s mostly little gremlins like power steering and other electrical issues but they cause big problems. Otherwise I like the machine.

Excellent advice. Thanks. Yes, it’s my daily driver. The tires I have on now could be an issue, as well. They’re cheap Goodyear’s. I was hoping that it still had plenty of life left, even at 120k. I knew that the 3/4 tons were a rougher ride but glad to hear your experiences. Think I’ll stick with a 1/2 but look elsewhere outside the Stellantis brand.

Just bought one this summer for the new pontoon. I also popped for the remote switch and mounted that to the dash/console (this has to be purchased separately). I attached a 30lb river anchor on it and it picks it up plenty fast. When it’s really dug into the bottom, it’ll pull the fully loaded 22ft pontoon over-top of the anchor and it comes right up. No complaints so far. Just be careful when you’re reeling up and stop when the anchor is secure in the cradle. I believe there is supposed to be an “auto-stop” feature that will kill the motor but you can end up blowing a fuse.

Inkbird. It’s the wifi that I love. the app isn’t the most user-friendly at first but you get used to it and it works great. You can set alarms and track the temp history almost to the minute and see if your cook is hitting the stall yet. I do a lot of long overnight cooks. Gives me piece of mind that I can go run some errands or sleep for awhile and it will sound an alarm for a pre-set temp level. I’d buy it again.

We’re in Lakeville and had Action Overhead out of Prior Lake come and door some repairs last year. Was happy with them…neighbors had them out too. Sorry if that’s the outfit you’re having issues with.

Thanks everyone. It’s 7.5′ in height, so I’m planning ahead for a SxS in the future. I’d love to go bigger, but the storage limitations are what’s keeping me at 16 ft in length. I’ll get creative somehow, maybe just have to heave the Otter into the bed of the truck. I know it fits there with some effort. It’s got D-rings in the each of the four corners, but I’ll need a few more in the middle. Just wondering if people have had success with the d-ring attachment that goes along with the e-track and if they’re strong enough.

Planning inline. Hoping the Otter will go behind the last ATV across the trailer. If not, I’ll have to try something else because 16′ in length is my max.

That’ll be tight if not impossible.

This is what I’m worried about.

Are you planning the ATV’s inline or SxS when transporting? If inline will the Otter be behind or beside the ATV’s?

For the love of God, as you said, avoid Samsung and LG at all costs. The house we bought three years ago had been furnished with all newer Samsung appliances as a package deal by the sellers they picked up before they put it on the market. Three years later we’ve replaced 4 of the 7 appliances. Just had to have the refrigerator fixed last week. Would have replaced it but still financially recovering from the other appliances we’ve had to deal with. I’d highly recommend Whirlpool as they’re parts are much easier to get when repairs inevitably come up.

Don’t discount the people that are selling their used boats at a significant profit, then buying something used that is also at an inflated price. I just sold my 30 year old pontoon yesterday for a price I never would have dreamed I’d get…more than double what I paid for it 10 years ago, and in much rougher condition. Yes, when I go buy something used but newer that’s also marked up, I’ll be paying more. But a lot of it is proportional. Just my opinion.

I have a pair of Baffin Eiger….nice and cozy

Same here. I still need to walk around on the ice occasionally to keep the circulation going. You need to order them one size too big. Then remove the liner and wear around the house like slippers for a day or so. After that you should be very happy. Like Sylvan said, walk around every now and again and keep the blood flowing. I put baseballs in the toe area of mine for a few days when I got them to stretch them a bit. Worked great.

This X2. I’ve had the Baffin Eigers for going on five years now. Heavy use and abuse and they’ve been great. Be sure to wear wool socks, not cotton, and you’ll be warm all day. Move around a bit throughout the day to keep the blood flowing. I put baseballs in the toe area of mine when I got them to stretch them. Worked great. Drilling holes all day, getting water all over them…doesn’t seem to leak. If I’m stepping in puddles I do get a bit wet in the heel and toes.

I searched past threads but didn’t find anything specific to this topic. I’m looking for a one man, sled-style, house that can be pulled by an ATV without serious modification. I have an Otter Pro Lodge but I need something that can fit in the box of my Ram 1500 and can be lifted by me alone. I’d be happy with a Cottage or something similar in size, but was wondering about the true one-man shelters. I’m not loyal to any one brand, but I don’t feel like doing a heavy modification. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?

Do this with an Otter Cottage best setup ever don’t beat the crap out of your flip over ! My Otter Cottage is the best one man I’ve ever had and if someone wants to go with you got the room for them. I load mine in my truck by myself and I’m 5’8 and 67 yrs old. I don’t haul the machine in the truck anymore but still haul the shack around on the hitch rack.

That looks great. What kind of cargo rack is that that will fit a Cottage?

the only things I didn’t liek about owning a Cottage was 34″ rods would hit the front/ceiling fabric when setting the hook and it was still relatively heavy…I now own a ProXT X-Over Cabin and only pull with an ATV, but if I went back to a 1 man, I would go with a Hideout stored on some sort of trailer hitch platform (liek the ones used for mobility scooters)

This is a great idea, if I were to go the one-man route. For your Cabin, are you able to load it into the back of the truck by yourself?

I have the 13 and 19 qt Engels. They spend the summer in the boat on big wave days and winters in the Otter Box of my ATV riding across rough ice. They’ve held up fine. I replaced the noisy aerator with a Clam lithium until that finally gave out after three years of hard use. Just bought the new Engel lithium aerator and used it for a week on LOTW. It worked perfectly and had great battery life. Very impressed.

No experience with the new Rapala R12, but can attest the new Bubba Brushless Pro is 20,000 times better than my original Rapala Lithium Ion. My only complaint is the handle is a bit big.

I would hope the R12 is much improved over their first lithium version.

All of this X2. I just switched this summer from the Rapala Lithium Ion to the Bubba. Aside from the large handle, really enjoying it. Just took a little getting used to.

All excellent ideas and suggestions (especially about not hanging lights at all!). I amazon-ed these hooks to the house this morning and they already arrived. I had 16 of them screwed into the sheetmetal soffits that hang below the gutters in about 25 mins (B-Man that ladder was treacherous on the snow and ice and I was cursing my wife the whole time).

If they work well, I’ll never have to take them down and hanging any types of lights during the holidays will be a breeze, fingers crossed.

Baffin Eiger’s or Impacts (or any from that line). Lightweight, incredibly warm, and keep your feet dry. Just be sure to wear wool socks and not cotton.

I pull mine when I store it and leave them in the garage not heated, off the concrete. I put mine on 2x4s and move a tender around once in a while to keep them charged.

Thanks everybody. This is was I plan to do moving forward. Which NOCO charger have you guys had luck with? Specifically for deep cycle batteries?

Just did a bunch of reading online and I’m still confused: I still need my cable modem to work with a mesh system, right? Does the mesh system replace the cable modem I already have?

For those that have the Otter Hideout, is it able to be towed by an ATV with the towbar? Is it able to attach to the Hideout?

Three years ago I lost my truck keys down the hole in a sleeper on Mille Lacs. Worst part was that I was the last one to arrive so I was blocking everyone else in – the snow was so high (it was late February) no one was getting out any other way than the road they had plowed to the house. My wife had to drive up my spare set from Lakeville….she was not pleased.

Two weeks ago I lost my iPhone 12 down a hole on LOTW. Thank God for insurance on that one. But now, instead of my sleek black phone I had before, I’m now rocking a lavender one.

Did you ever get this resolved? I’m having the same issue. Worked fine last year, but had to get a new circuit board for the Ulterra over the winter and now it won’t pair.

We’ve got a cabin just north of Mora. The lake isn’t too spectacular for fishing these past few years since we get a lot of the pressure from folks that usually hit Mille Lacs. We’ve had some resistance from the locals about us weekenders coming up and us bringing unnecessary risk. We bring our own groceries and gas so we don’t have to stop anywhere in town. I can certainly see their point but I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ve been paying lakeshore property taxes for years. I’ll use common sense and caution and stay in my boat, but I’m heading up.

Bought a 2017 750 with power steering in the Spring of ’18 as a leftover from a dealership in the north metro. Brand new machine straight out of the box. Have put almost 2K miles on it since the last 18 mos. Only a CV boot due to an rogue tree branch and the oil changes have caused the machine to be down for a brief time. I run it all year round and beat the he!! out of it. It’s never let me down. I like the single big bore cylinder. Guy told me, “Suzuki does nothing great, but it does everything well.” Love it.

Mine went out after a few months. Wouldn’t hold a charge and the LED hole light wouldn’t turn off, either, regardless of the rocker switch position. Display was messed up, too. Brought it back to Marcum and they replaced the battery no charge. I suspect I got a whole new unit since just about everything that could go wrong went wrong. Weird thing was when I brought it in, they just said “Not working?” and took the unit, my information, and called me the next day saying it was ready.

Why not just run a sperate battery for the GPS, save on the worries.

This is exactly what I did last year. I have a ’17 King Quad with no pull start, as well. In my Otterbox mounted on the rear, I used an old flasher battery that I no longer needed and mounted in there on a clam battery tray, ran some wire through the chasis to the front where I had the Helix 7 on a RAM mount. I used an in-line fuse, then ordered from Marcum the “piggy back” charger/connector that they use on their flashers so I could conveniently hook up an old Marcum charger. Charges the battery just fine with no hassle; Helix lasts at least a full day, sometimes two, if I put it in stand by mode when I’m not on the machine.
