Have to agree with the others, what ever works with your bow. I shot Muzzy’s when I lived there and still shoot them for whitetail here. 125 grain was what I shot.

We put one in the middle of corn field last week and they didn’t seem to mind one bit. To our knowledge (from the landowner) there had never been a blind in the field before, so it’s not like it was a common thing. That was my only experience using a blind for turkeys, but I wont hesitate to do it next year if the situation warrants.

I didn’t draw either, but I will be making a drive out anyway to hunt with some local friends in the Big Sky area during bow season. It’ll still be a great time working the camera and bugling for them!

Good read Johnny, thanks! I hope the hunters pay attention to those ear tags so we can see how old she can get……..then again, even though she’s small, that would be a great trophy!

On my way to work driving up the North Shore a few years ago, I saw a buck that I had been hunting dead on the side of the road. Nothing huge, but it was a nice, tall 8 pt. that I had seen from my stand but could never get a shot. I wanted the rack to make some rattling antlers for my dad cause I know he wanted some, but didn’t want to ruin any of his racks in the process. I called the local CO and told him what I wanted to do and asked how to proceed. He met me at the spot about 30 mins. after I called him, gave me a possession tag, but told me I had to dispose of the carcass properly. There were no issues in my situation so maybe yours was a case of an over zealous CO? I’m not sure, but I know I’ll follow proper procedure to avoid any serious consequences.

I’m going to do a better job with my decoys. 2 years ago I blew it and had the decoys set in a bad spot and got busted. That wont happen this year.

Next time I get to hunt (the drawing hates me) I will not get caught smashing wood ticks on the grip of my gun. Nelson got pretty mad about that; something about a Tom strutting around while I was smashing woodticks?

Oh and I will bring my bullets with on the long hikes, and I will not get scared and run away when a pheasant sneaks up on my at o’ dark thirty nor will I point at the turkey strutting in the tree as he looks down at me. My guess is I will also need a new guide as my old one most likely will turn down my request.

That’s one of my favorite stories!

Did that come from the UP? If so, which end? I can’t imagine a buck that big coming from the western part where I’m from.
