I’m in agreement with Adam Steffes. I don’t limit it to dealers. Most shops. Not to say there are not some good ones, but I’ve not found them when I needed them unfortunately. Literally, everytime there was an issue. Even the time I was ill and had the wife pay to get the oil changed. Only oil change where I paid to have it done in my life, and they cross threaded the drain plug and sent it home with her leaking oil. I bought a new 21ft Ranger back in 2012 from Cabelas. What a s*%$ show that was. Only some of the addons were present when I picked it up. And then the quality issues from the manufacturer. I literally found a trash bin under one of the covers on the port side while installing wiring for electronic equipment. Empty bottles, paper towels, misc trash and even a couple cigarette butts. That, I surmise, was done at the factory. The list of issues with the dealer and the manufacturer are way too long to list, but include improper wiring, livewell/pump plumbing hooked up way wrong, star cracking in gel coat due to improper installation of the bump rail and ladder, trailer set up wrong in several regards including one of the trailing arms off two splines and one off one spline (tandem axle, so they got it 50% correct, which I figured out after noticing crazy tire wear problems). After one unsatisfactory trip back to the dealer, I refused to take it back and finished/fixed it all myself. Installed all of the snaps on my full enclosure (drilled a ton of holes in my glass), but I was not about to let them do it after they installed several components out of alignment (gunwale rails were a mess). No regrets in doing that given the shoddy work I was dealing with as the alternative. I could go on and on with all of the dealer/shop horror stories that have rendered me as my own service provider for pretty much everything.

To the original question, I see that as frustrating for sure but fairly minor compared to what I’ve seen with new boats over the years. Run a new cable and done. Personally, I would get them to pay me to run the wire which would save them money and give me comfort knowing it was done right (just give me the materials at no cost and we’re good). Just don’t touch my boat, please.

I recommend silicon, but would first seal up the wood in the hole with a sealer product that soaks into the wood. If you have any hobbies where you have bulk cyanocrylate (superglue), this works great to soak into wood and seal it up. Polyurethane or a slow curing epoxy thinned with a little alcohol will also work to wick it into the wood as added protection. If you prefer it to be more “clean”, cut bolts so you can insert them 3/4 of the way into the holes, and after sealing the wood, goop them with silicon and “plug” the holes. If done right, you should get many years of service without leaking.

Below is what I posted in the ice forum:

Until more information is available, my advice is that it depends on which lithium you are using. The V410 is a lead acid battery charger which was not designed specifically for lithium batteries. Apparently, the circuitry in the Vexilar lithium is designed to be compatible with the v410. I cannot say how it works with the circuitry on other lithium batteries, but I do not plan to use the v410 on any lithium other than the Vexilar battery until more information is available.
I tried to embed a link to a Vexilar youtube video that discusses some of this.

One thing I note from the video is that the representative for Vexilar makes it very clear not to leave the v410 plugged into the lithium battery long term.

I suggest finding a charger that shuts off automatically when charging lithium.

If by “standard vex charger” you mean the original sealed-lead acid battery charger that came with many models, like the flx28, then no you cannot and should not try to use it on a lithium battery. I attached a photo of one of mine, and it has an output of 13.5 volts at 1amp, which is not safe for lithium batteries.

When dealing with G2 units, the only question is what software version are you running. I recommend running the latest version. I had an issue with version 1.83/1.84 but the other versions worked great. I posted the following in another thread:
I have both the helix7 down imaging g2n and side imaging g2n. When i first used them for ice, i had upgraded to software versions 1.63/1.64. They were so awesome we (me & my sons) quit using our flx28s. Then i upgraded to versions 1.83/1.84 in September last year. When out on the first ice trip this season, had the issue where the bottom reading started skipping around which was annoying when using the graph like we prefer becausethe zoom screen would not stay consistent. I contacted HB and they emailed me software which took the units back to 1.63/1.64. Then in early February they released version 1.90. I installed 1.90 last week and both units are working better than ever. I recommend the latest update to anyone with either unit.
