Thanks for the replies, helpful. Tuck to answer your questions:

1)I am running 6lb. Stren MagnaThin on St.Croix 7ft Legend Walleye tournament rods. I am heavy on the snell or leaders with mostly 10pd. test. This could be a problem, although after fishing Lake Winni alot with these rods I don’t feel I’m missing the pick-up of the bait. Thoughts?

2)I was backtrolling with my Yamaha 8-4 stroke running what I call s-curves on the ledges and off the flat in a North-South pattern (wind was terrible yesterday)

3)I went back and forth between 1/2 ounce and 3/4 ounce to keep as vertical as possible in a tough wind

4)I marked alot of fish and tried to hold position as good as I could. With such long leaders, what do you think is happening at the bottom with the leader when the wind pushes you forward and you move backward slowly? I always feel as if I need to sustain movement to keep the leader extended.

Like I said above, I spend alot of time on Winni, but the long drive moves me to Mille Lacs in July. The bite and approach is just different enough that I need help.

Thanks Everyone, any other tips appreciated!

I fish Winni quite extensively (just finished 2 weeks on the lake). We witnessed the transition in fish from a shoreline bite to deeper water. Fish began to stack pretty good as of last week on the humps and rigging with leeches and crawlers was the ticket, with occasional fish on jig-n-minnows. The bite is definitely tougher this year with added forage in the lake, and a strong may fly hatch is around the corner as we began to see smaller ones. I am fishing there tomorrow and Saturday and will mostly run deep. On windy days you can still get something going shallow. If you are interested we have also found (new this year) a nice bit between 9 and 11 at night if you interested in fishing mid-deep rock. We may also pull some deep water cranks on some of the larger humps. Good luck!

When I drive home from work I see a few boats in a back bay on Crystal near 35, always wondered how good the crappie fishing was in there? Looks out of the wind anyway.

Thanks Jack , I’ll see what I can do. With a 5 and a 4 year old in the boat, I’ll need to get some fish on right a way or I’ll be hearing, “Dad did you bring a snack?”

Great fish, what part of Pool 4 were you concentrated on mostly? Did you launch out of Everts?

Steve, curious if the bite tends to fluctuate with cloudy/rainy weather that has or will be moving in through Friday? Was planning to head up tomorrow/Friday, but may need to rethink. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

Good information, you got me thinking and I confirmed with Lowrance that you need to bring the NMEA 2000 power supply (black/red/silver) to power as well to get power to the antenna. And as you mentioned, it is completely unclear in the manual. Lowrance has put an addendum out on the web. Thanks alot-saved me alot of blue language!

Thanks Jon, appreciate the views. I was leaning towards the Edge, but was also concerned about the price given what Lowrance and Garmin are offering in the $400-$600 category. The beauty of the Edge was running my FL-18 too without conflicting frequencies. Decisions…

Thanks Derek! If you run more than one sonar at a time (i.e. flasher and LCD)do have issues with the cones overlapping and causing problems? In the past my Lowrance 15MT has had problems when I’ve switched my LCD on on the bow. Lowrance has responded with you can’t overlap cone angles which happens at depths usually greater than 20ft. Any advice appreciated-
