Out of new Prague 95.5 kchk. Polka, classic country, and “the trading post” where people call in and list random stuff for sale.

KCHK is like religion down here! rotflol

I wonder what the other guys on his boat were thinking? not sure if they were customers or friends from the way he was talking. But they don’t exactly look excited to be there.

He was one of my favorite actors when I was a teen.

The Ghost and the Darkness, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Tombstone, etc

    Heck even McGruber more recently.

    RIP Val

HA! I forgot about McGruber. Ridiculous and hilarious flick

I gave KQ another try today and couldn’t believe it. I listened maybe 30 min yesterday which basically gets you 4-5 songs with commercials. Heard at least 3 of the EXACT SAME songs today when I listened for another 30 min!

KQ is still KQ – they just moved their rock genre ahead 10-years. Just plain GARBAGE.

I’m waiting for the knife snobs to jump in and rip on the Worksharp people (of which I am one). If I had some really high-end knives, I’d either take the time to stone sharpen or have them professionally done. But My knives are mostly cheapies. I think my wife gets them from her Pampered Chef friend. Anyhoo, the argument is that they take off too much steel and that the tip becomes dull if you’re not careful. That might be true, but I have 20+ year old knives in the drawer that I make surgical-sharp 2-3 times a year with my Worksharp and they don’t look any smaller than the day we got them brand new. The tip-dulling thing is accurate, you just have to be careful and pull-out a little early rotflol

    No regrets with my Worksharp!

Then there was Heinz and Burgland on WLOL. I had a guy put carpet in our former house about 15 years ago. He had a ratty old WLOL stocking cap on and I asked him about it. Turns out he was Dave Bush who used to come on in the daytime, right after Heinz and Burgland. He told me some stories about the classic radio days in the Twin Cities…

KDWB had Buck & O’Connor and after that Steve Cochrane. There used to be some serious morning competition back in the day…

For the old guys on here, who else listened to the Cannon Mess? At the height of his popularity, it was the most listened to program in the entire country. I sure miss the barking dogs, Ma Linger, and Backlash Larue.

I don’t consider myself old, but the Cannon Mess brings up GREAT memories of being a kid on the school bus. I lived in the country and had an hour-long ride home. My bus driver always had it on. I don’t even really remember the content, but I remember the barking dogs. Just hearing you mention it brings me back to bouncing around on dusty gravel roads in old bus.

Yeah, they’re basically KOOL 108 or Jack FM, now. For a lot of people they just like to have stuff on in the background – and it drives me nuts. I’m a proud music snob, and I’m very deliberate when i listen to music, even if it’s ambient. I can’t stand listening to the same stuff over and over and over.

I’ll just go back to Spotify and control the tunes myself.

Well, I tuned in via stream and they were playing The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait” and I was really excited – but then saw the “last played list” on the right side of the screen…

Blah… Probably an unpopular take, but You Shook Me All Night Long may be my most hated tune of the 1980s, SO overplayed and couldn’t care less if I EVER heard that song again. White Wedding? a fine song, I suppose, but this doesn’t look much different than the old KQ. They were already playing U2 and Foo Fighters in the old format as well. As far as I can tell, they just dropped the 70s stuff and are throwing in some alt stuff… Green Day’s Longview playing now… Yawn…

So they’re just shifting their classic rock window up a decade from 70’s and 80’s to 80’s and 90’s? Hmmm, don’t get me wrong, I love 80s rock and the grunge era, but if it’s just going to be the same old hits, than I’m out.

Does anyone ever listen WXYG (THE GOAT) in St. Cloud? It’s now 540 AM but I swear they used to have an FM signal. I stumbled on it on the way home from the cabin after the power loon faded out. WOW! Talk about a music lover’s radio station. They’re classic rock but they go DEEP and their DJs are really into it and give you the stories behind the albums and songs. It’s like going through your cool uncles vinyl collection from the 70s. They even do a weekly guest DJ spot where a listener spin their playlist for an hour. They also stream so you don’t have to listen to a tinny-sounding AM signal.

I while back I saw on America’s Test Kitchen the flip every 2 minutes method. Works for me.

Exactly where I saw this. I had heard of it before, but after i saw them do it, I tried it for myself. I love that show. The Samsung free TV streaming service has an entire channel dedicated to ATK, I have it on all the time.

The real egg riddle is why in one sitting can I eat 2-3 fried eggs, but 4-6 if they are scrambled eggs, and unlimited amounts of deviled eggs? Like I honestly don’t know how many because they run out before I stop eating them.

HA! This is so true. I could plow through a whole tray of deviled eggs and ask for seconds. It’s also a good if you want to be left alone for a day.

Had a similar experience a few years back, and my unit wouldn’t read the chip with the upgrade, so they had me send it in and I got it back two weeks later fixed and upgraded, no charge except shipping!

The creek I grew up on was too small for fishing, just a small drainage that ended up in the Minnesota river. But I must’ve trapped a million-and-a-half minnows of ALL kinds in that creek. all types of Chubs, fatheads, dace, shiners. The fun part was that you’d get a few species like small bluegills that you wonder how they ever got there. Not to mention all the other fun critters like salamanders and crawfish.

I’ve gone through a LOT of pancake recipes, and I have yet to find one that beats Alton Brown’s pancake recipe – just google it.

The recipe makes enough dry mix for 3-4 batches, so I make the dry mix and just keep it in my cupboard. Then he has instructions for a batch using 2 cups of the dry mix and the wet ingredients. They’re phenomenal!

Yeah – that list is more mainstream “pop” punk and emo. Linkin Park isn’t punk, I would put them in the Nu Metal category. They got big with all the other rap-rock bands in the late 90s.

That was around the time i was born so youve got a little more life experience than me devil

HA! I want to know your definition of Punk Rock, then! :). Not that it doesn’t still exist, I’m genuinely curious who your go-to bands are.

Growing up, the casualties were my favorite band, i grew up loving and being highly involved in the punk scene. Lower class brats, the exploited, the unseen, gbh, monster squad, Rancid, Tim’s other band operation ivy but that’s more ska so to say., Lars fredrickson and the monkeybutts when he went that way, social distortion, nofx I’ve seen probably 50 plus times. I’ve been to every small time punk venue and see so many. My kids in a misfits kick right now he has picked up the love for music that I have.
My love for punk is forever and holds a deep spot in my heart. This day and age I am more a metal head but punk will always live on. The kids and I just made breakfast to Rancid ” and out come the wolves” album. Both kids love flogging molly and request it on long drives, it drives my lady nuts. She loves that crap on the modern country stations. Which makes me want to vomit.

AWESOME, BC! Same with my wife and Modern Country – JUST AWFUL.

No Punk rock?? Come on man jester

I think you and me would get along good in the garage, Youbetcha! I was in what you’d call a punk band back in high school in the 90’s, Not the spiked hair, chains and piercings (IE Rancid) but more jeans and t-shirts, skater punk (IE All, Decedents, etc). But I listen to it all. It’s hard to get my buddies to bob their heads along when I have control of the tunes… But if I’m in the garage alone and I’m getting nostalgic, I’m blasting bands like, NOFX, No Use For a Name, Lagwagon, Bouncing Souls, Rancid, Screw 32, Decedents, All, Dillinger Four, Maybe even a little core-ska like old school BossTones or Suicide Machines. I have a HUGE spot in my heart for Minneapolis indie legends The Replacements. Saw some unbelievable shows in ridiculously small venues, even a few basements back in the day. Still have scars! Man, I miss those days.

Anyone else??? I’m guessing I’m in the minority here… rotflol

Not getting in on the political argument. But if you’re heading to Sunset Country/Lac Seul area, you’re probably going through Dryden. Dryden has a good grocery store, comparable to a Cub here. If not heading that far north, I gotta think Ft Francis has something like that as well, but I’ve never stopped there.

I’ve never fished the west coast but it looks really interesting. Aside from the kelp beds, there’s very deep water within a few miles from shore, unlike Florida where you may have to drive a while. A lot of rock fish and other pelagic species that are wonderful to eat. Have fun and report back!

    Thanks 3Rivers,
This is the stuff I had to miss on account of my friends needing to leave early. Strap Lizzard is a neat idea, but not sure it’s worth it if you have 20+ straps like me. I just take some time to roll them up and they store OK.

Not sure what the price is on the Bunkhouse Boat? I’m sure it’s not cheap but might be a fun retirement thing or something.

Will have to look for Summer Lakes cocktail mix, too. That lady was a good saleswoman.

Went yesterday for a few hours with three buddies and we were mainly checking out resorts. Could only stay for a 2-3 hours because a couple of the guys needed to get home for stuff. I hadn’t been there since pre-covid and I too noticed it was smaller. There used to be only a row or two of RVs but it was a big part of the show this year.

An unbelievable free agency period, that just may be capped-off with the biggest downer in pro football history. A-rog wants to be here despite offers from two other teams, I hope KOC and KAM can think better of it. I’d rather have the Vikes go 0-16 with JJM, than have to route for that guy. And I bet a lot of fans feel the same way.

Have you ever heard of a situation in any lake (aside some prairie swamp lake where everything’s stocked by a sportsman’s club, etc) where the bass were really hurting and needed to be stocked? Both smallmouth and largemouth are very resilient and prolific species and very few are kept for the table. I say game on!

I retrofitted a central vac in our home 7/8 years ago. That is the best thing we have ever had for vacuuming. I put a port on all 3 levels of the home.

Wasn’t sure if these were still a thing. My parents have a central vac (house built in mid 70s) and when something would break they would have to go to a specialty dealer to get a part or buy a new hose, etc. It vacuums good but you have to lug out the bulky hose every time you want to use it- dragging that hose around corners over the years has left its mark on the baseboards. And the beater-bar has to be plugged in separately, so you have the hose and the power cord dragging behind you. Maybe they’ve made improvements throughout the years? But my elderly parents still live in that house and I think they just bought a Shark or Dyson and stopped using the central unit.

If you’re going to re-establish a population, you need to put enough of them there with genetic diversity to breed which requires a lot more home range than one would think. Those kinds of “lonely areas” just aren’t common anymore. Aside from upsetting current predator/prey balances, you’d have a big political fight from any adjacent population centers if you wanted to put Grizzies in someone’s back yard. Any effort short of dressing them all up like big wolves would fall well short.
    (I crack myself up)
