in reading the manual you can save your waypoints from the ff instead of the display on the lowrance, but in looking a little further it may not be worth the effort..thanks
May 13, 2005 at 12:47 pm #362895I actually did mine a bit different, cut transducer cable, opened head of power drive, drilled hole in top section of motor, fed down thru, spliced wires at top mounted head and this was a HUGE gamble but now have done it for several friends, and now no wires to fight with. I can email pics if anyone is curious.
September 3, 2004 at 12:04 pm #319927Just installed mine yesterday and headed for the croix in the morning!
June 23, 2004 at 1:59 pm #309696we were considering a trip in a few weeks, does anyone know of any public campgrounds on the lake?
April 20, 2004 at 3:25 am #301671ill give a hint……….hmmmmm….. 94 bridge area….minnows…..slip bobber…by boat..12ft.
hope that helps!
April 20, 2004 at 2:28 am #301659well ive got a slightly different story…nothing to brag about but sat about 330 was out for about 3 hrs and managed to hit a school of crappies, of 12 caught all but 2 were 12-14″ was alot of fun. What was very unusual (or lucky) is they all were so close in size.
April 14, 2004 at 12:00 am #300987I used the pro (non h20) on the rainy last weekend in the rain, I can tell you that mine recieved more water than reccomended !!!! it works fine, personally i think they say “water resistant” just so you dont submerge it, it rained on us for awhile and forgot to put the bag on and it was fine.
this is my first lowrance gps, ive had a gps 12 from magellan for years and it was hard to change but when navionics became compatable it was hard to say no.
i heard the h20 was coming about a week after i bought the pro, was upset at first but i think it will be fine, the cig cable is a great add and it also came with the waterproof bag.
April 7, 2004 at 2:51 am #300017ive used the garmin 250 for a week now, it is a fantastic unit! Ive never used a newer eagle so i cant compare butr the garmin has been my choice for 3 years now, 250 on the helm, 240 on the bow and a 160 on the back.
March 31, 2004 at 2:35 am #298866just a related note…I have had my batterys hooked up like the prev pictures…i just bought a 3 bank cabelas pro angler on board charger and called to see if having batterys hooked up like that had any effect, they stated when using a 3 BANK charger, do not hook them together, now I will simply watch my garmin 250 volt reading or when I lose power I will simply switch tmotor terminals to second battery. by hooking the batts together the only thing you gain is not having to switch batts on the fly (good) but you are increasing voltage draw on the system (bad) again, it really doesnt mean much unless you have the 3 bank charger.just an fyi if you plan on using one with variable charge distribution.
March 30, 2004 at 1:41 pm #298874i was considering the EXACT thing yesterday, I have a garmin 250 on the helm, a 240 on the troller and have a 160 that I wanted to link with one of the other 2 or switch back and forth…..long story short…on the garmin web page in the FAQ section in fishfinders it reccomends not to because of “distortion”….now with that being said if anyone has done it and if it works ok, let me know!!!
March 1, 2004 at 2:04 am #294226shawnc, when im not fishing and actually have to work…im a service director for a chrysler dealer, towing with an all wheel drive is no problem!
February 28, 2004 at 12:16 pm #294534We have a spring trip planned the first weekend in april up to the rainy, have never been there before but going with a few guys that have so it should be very interesting! sounds like ill be up there just a week before you bigeyes! ill try to leave you some!!!! (lol)
February 28, 2004 at 2:50 am #294512so much for march 5…..the ifinder showed up today! from what i can tell with the nav chip, by the st croix river it appears to be fantastic, it shows the boat launches, depth contours, bridges and fishing tips. Ill have to keep playing with it. james…whats epe?
February 27, 2004 at 3:29 am #294369I won a gift cert from cabelas, the new 04 nav chip region 10 showed up today but the ifinder pro wont ship until march 5. but with ALL THE TONS of info i get from this web site it wouldnt be right not to share what i find out once i get it out!!!
February 26, 2004 at 3:11 am #294198Im also going to use the navionics and the i finder pro, we will have to see how good it works…
February 11, 2004 at 1:17 pm #292323i also have the lakemaster maps…..does anyone know will the i finder pro also accept downloading from a pc with the proper cable ?
February 10, 2004 at 3:48 pm #292190now i understand the best of both worlds are available, lowrance now has a new handheld unit (i finder pro) that accepts the navionics chip, so if you go on a different boat, you can take it with you, the ONLY down side i can see is the smaller screen than the full size units.
December 8, 2003 at 5:27 pm #284473thanks ccoops……..maybe if i was a little more specific, looking into sioux narrows area????????????
October 27, 2003 at 3:20 am #279671i would have to agree with slow..as far as the fishing goes, but there was some talk a year ago or so about a fishing club on the croix, but havent heard anything since.
October 15, 2003 at 3:03 pm #278701I spent sunday out from aprox 8am to almost 6, had a great time but few fish, mostly so of the kinni mn side all in less than 12 ft dragging minnows, combo of eyes and saugs, with a nice cat my son landed, probably 6lbs or a little more. marking alot of fish so of the hudson bridge but 30′ or more, couldnt put any on the line. but will definatly keep trying hard.
October 6, 2003 at 7:58 pm #277837I fished fri in the wind and also had a tough time, went back out yesterday and managed a few whites and a small northern, but it wasnt very good for walleye or sauger (at least for me) I think its going to be guide time in the spring!!!!! I have seen other posts stating the bite on the croix is better mid day, late day, night, morning etc, i guess its just a confidence thing….or ability. ive been fishing the st c regularly for the last 2 years and i cant pin it to morning or eve???
August 17, 2003 at 1:46 am #273551absolutely beautiful!!! to bad she didnt revive..at least you tried.
May 13, 2003 at 12:48 pm #266578I feel compelled to add my 2 pennies here, aprox 4 years ago I moved up here, didnt know JACK about river fishing, much less the croix or miss, found this site from a customer at work, and have learned a ton! Including what trolling motor to buy, what to look for in a boat, motor needs as far as hp etc, heck i basically bought my boat, rods, reels and accessories with help from this site! theres more than just where to fish, but how to fish, I guess I just wanted to get on a soap box this morning and to say THANK YOU. anytime i can help someone wether it be fish locations that have or are working, colors, etc boat control, i only feel its my way of helping someone else, returning the favor..sort of.
May 13, 2003 at 12:28 pm #266574I look thru my croix notebook and have had some great times with high water, dont see any reason to change. had a pretty good day sat, alot of 14.5 inchers, just couldnt seem to s t r e t c h them enough to say i released keepers!!
May 8, 2003 at 7:27 pm #266193fantastic topic here guys….here is my related question, is there specific speeds recomended (or does that depend on current?) and what do you look for, depth, bottom contour, etc to determine where to start trolling? In other words…to a guy who just statrted fishing the river…how do you know what to look for?
