Thanks for the info Ben! I have a Hero3 that I got for Father’s day last year and haven’t been able to put it to use in the woods yet. Where we are hunting tomorrow we won’t be decoying and might be running and gunning. So I will probably keep it mounted on my head. I like the other ideas though and maybe will be able to put them to use later on in the season. Also, thanks for the heads up on running it in narrow mode. Will definitely go that route. When you talked about running it in 1080-60 fps, does that produce a slow-motion video? Or is it something that you can slow down with editing software?

Good points FG! I didn’t consider local ordinances.
My buddy acknowledges that he was in the wrong, but since that particular GM doesn’t allow CC, then he doesn’t want to shop there.
I will have to do a little research to understand why that store doesn’t allow it.
January 6, 2014 at 9:30 am #1352082Depends on what a good buck is to you. If a 140″ buck is good, a single shed that scores around 63″ would give you 140″ conservatively assuming a 14″ spread (think high and tight rack). If 160″ is good then 73″ would give you 160″ with the same 14″ conservative inside spread.
Another way to look at it is to take your “good” buck score, subtract the assumed inside spread, and divide the remaining amount by 2.
Assuming 140″ and 14″ spread: (140-14)/2=63″.
This all goes out the window when a non-typical shed is encountered.

Unfortunately not. 50BMG’s main use is in its namesake 50 BMG. As with most other places, Natchez is sold out of all useful powders.
Grouse
Haha yeah I’m guessing that you don’t need .50 cal powder for your prairie dogs loads!
Sorry about that!

Jake that is correct. Easiest way is to just buy a complete jig. If you have trouble finding one and are anywhere near red Wing I can order one for you. I will have to look up a price on one. Let me know, Chris
Thanks for the offer Chris, but Nashville is just a bit of a drive to Red Wing
I am headed to Bass Pro in the next couple of days, so I will be looking for one there.
December 18, 2013 at 6:50 am #1351754For the Bitz, I need to buy the jig, right-handed clamp for right helical, and an indexer, correct? I see some places sell the jig and clamp w/o the indexer.
December 17, 2013 at 6:23 pm #1351747Thanks for the info. Does the Blitzenburger work with Blazer vanes?
December 1, 2013 at 12:59 pm #1351437Well done Tony! I read all your posts and I can say for sure that you gave it your all in your quest for a P&Y buck. Sorry for the loss of your father, but it sounds like spending time with your kids outdoors was great therapy for you!

I don’t think his new wife will be happy, though. Last year he had an $800 bear mount and now he’ll have another taxidermy bill. She’s a city girl to the core, so hunting is very new to her life. At this rate, she’d better get used to an annual taxidermy bill!
She will get used to it I hung this one in our living room back in WI after being married a month. Now in TN, it greets us every time we come down to our main level!

I told him to appreciate how blessed he is to hunt deer in the age of QDM. When I was 25, a 125″ buck was rare and considered big. How times have changed!
Well said! Congrats to David on an awesome buck!!
What part of the state was this buck killed?

Awesome!! So, are you hunting WI opener….
Oh I think I will be sitting that one out. Might sneak out once in TN this weekend, maybe.
Thanks for the congrats all!
November 7, 2013 at 8:19 pm #133730Yep we have the 880 for hanging/skinning deer. I put a new cable on it last year though cause the one that comes with it always gets tangled.
November 7, 2013 at 6:29 pm #133721That’s a bummer, but most of us have been there at some point. The good part about this is you will be able to sleep at night knowing that you gave it your all. After all, we owe it to the animal to do everything we can to recover them.
I agree that if you had as little blood as you mentioned and as far he went, he will most likely survive. Assuming he doesn’t get an infection, he may be around later in the season or next year.
November 7, 2013 at 4:48 pm #133716I have refreshed this post about a dozen times now waiting for an update and hoping for a good outcome!

LOL
Wait isn’t faking dead “Playing possum?”….so confused now
November 7, 2013 at 3:28 pm #133711NOTHING wrong with that buck at all! Congrats on an awesome kill and as a soon to be father, I can’t wait to have a little on waiting for me at the door wondering what I got!!!
November 7, 2013 at 4:06 am #133693Good luck tomorrow! We found one once that we jumped after we let him go for 3 hours after the shot.
November 7, 2013 at 12:57 am #133680Congrats Ben! Looks like the taxidermy bill might be a little steep this year!
November 6, 2013 at 8:41 pm #133672That’s a tough one Gobbler and believe me I know how you feel!
I would venture to say that I usually learn a more valuable lesson about shot placement, when I lose a deer (assuming I was able to tell where the shot was) that when I kill one. The lessons are always tough, but I have learned to take fewer questionable shots than in the past.
October 30, 2013 at 8:32 pm #133417Awesome story and great buck! How long were the G3s on that bad boy?
October 28, 2013 at 8:23 pm #133308How about that post for your 2000th!!!
Awesome buck and can’t wait to hear the details. Love them long G3s!
October 24, 2013 at 4:27 pm #133105I will always (almost at least) try something unique once. I remember trying Raccoon and possum at game feeds and thought “this ain’t bad”. With that knowledge I would gladly try a well cooked ‘yote. Like the guy said “if it’s cooked good it’s good and if it’s cooked bad it’s bad”. However, I’m sure they carry a ton of diseases but probably no more than your average raccoon or feral hog.
October 24, 2013 at 1:42 pm #133091Congrats Kevin! And good read! Did he have a unique characteristic so you were able to tell he was the same bird from the spring?
October 23, 2013 at 7:40 pm #133067Unfortunately, I think it does. 3 years in a row I had does that I hit high and didn’t recover.
October 9, 2013 at 2:02 am #132590First off, happy 1000 post Second, I have a pair of 800 gram Rocky that I love everything about except they are a little loose in the ankle area. I wear them all bow season and if it gets real cold, I will use some toe warmers at that does the trick.
However, I think I will be going Muck for my next ones. All my buddies that have them, absolutely love them!
October 4, 2013 at 12:36 pm #132420Good work Kooty!
Was that the buck from the “48 Hours from now….” thread? A little hard to tell from the pics.
