It really depends on where you’re going out. SE MN is showing reports but I think it’s still early. The open areas that get the most sun would be the best bet at this time I would think.

SE part of the state has started. Who’s been finding them?! Still a ways out further north that’s for sure.

Here is another example of a more normal looking black morel. I can’t freaking wait!

Yeah that is the darkest Black Morel I’ve ever found. Blacks are much more common in mid to northern MN. That particular one happened to be growing out of very black dirt, which is likely why it’s that dark. It was super fresh.

Hens are my favorite next to Morels!! Nice find! They’re out this time of year at the bases of growing oak trees. Yum

Yeah looks a bit off for oyster but could be. Normally doesn’t have a defined stem like that.

One thing about golf courses to keep in mind…they treat the fairways usually with chemicals which can be absorbed by the mushrooms. Just an FYI!

Are they gilled on the bottom? Kind of look like golden oysters to me. It’s not chicken of the woods.

I have an old counter top about 6ft long that I just put on the kitchen counter. Makes cleanup a breeze!

I have never really had luck with plastics on jigs, so I never really gave them a chance. That all changed last year when I watched a buddy hammer walleyes from shore with a lead color jig and a 4″ Walleye Assassin soft plastic. After I switched I start catching some as well. I now use Walleye Assassins religiously and usually have luck. The size is much better overall as well. Either they are amazing baits or seeing them work just got my confidence up and thus more time with them. Either way, they’re the first thing I use when casting for eyes!

Gary have you tried Morels? IMO they’re way better then hen of the woods. But yes $30/lb is pretty crazy. I love the satisfaction of harvesting and cookin them up myself. Man they’re delicious.
