I’d really enjoy seeing more Musky episodes. Come down to Chicago and do an urban smallmouth episode on Lake Michigan with Capt. Ralph Steiger. Power-lining and trolling for Cohos and stealhead in Chicago. Doubt many people outside of Chicago have experienced power-lining. I’d like to see more episodes where the conditions are not perfect, and the body of water is heavily pressured.
March 9, 2016 at 9:35 am #1605401With the price of gas, I’d drive down. I had my cousins down from St Paul this past summer. They did not realize how much walking is involved with being down town. The CTA is under $3 per ride, but it can be unpleasant. Otherwise, you’re looking at cabs and Uber.
Depending on the age of your kids, the children’s museum at Navy Pier is a good one.
The Field Musuem, and the Art Institute should be on your list.
Iwan Reis – Worth the trip if you like smoking cigars or a pipe.
Lou Malnati’s – Deep Dish Pizza
Chicago Hot Dogs – Gene and Judes is a good one, but out away from down town.
China-Town is something different and worth a meal.
August 14, 2013 at 6:29 pm #1189545Someone should make a lawn decoration, and fund a new boat with the $ you get. I’m thinking a Tree made out of Rebar.
June 14, 2013 at 2:52 pm #1177857My boss and I with our first ‘skies caught the first time either of us had ever targeted muskies. My 38″ Spotted caught on an inline spinner. Bossman’s 40″ Clear caught 5 minutes after we started the musky hunting.
June 13, 2013 at 3:10 pm #1177645What a game. Hopefully the Hawks can seal the next three wins without having to go to OT.
June 11, 2013 at 4:39 pm #1177121I use a few RR ties to rest the 12 aluminum boat on during the winter months. I actually aquired them after my buddy’s Eagle Scout project was finished, they were extras. The ties had been donated to be used to build Horse-Shoe and Bacci Ball pits at a local park. Someone will have a use for them, and a $50 price tag will get biters seeing as ties usually cost near or above $20 a piece.

There are better ways to shop.
Yea there are. You should target the gloves next time. I hooked into one on Friday that had 4 different musky baits on it including a Double Showgirl and a Jointed X-Rap.
June 10, 2013 at 4:09 pm #1176770Well done Randy, You obviously did something righ; you have a beautiful daughter that uses her brain and knows what she wants in life. Enough scholarships to have the first year paid for, thats huge.
I’m thinking you might need to bring that ‘Stache back.
June 10, 2013 at 4:00 pm #1176766I love when posts like this show-up. Especially when people are reunited with their gear.
Props on truely parenting you son; your example will be one of the biggest factors in what kind of man your boy will grow to be.
May 10, 2013 at 1:36 pm #1169905A gallon of regular gas is $4.19 a block from my office here. I have to drive nearly to the bottom of the Chedar Curtain to get gas under $4.

those places that sell/install water softeners are a huge rip off. They want 2-3k for something you can get at HD or Menards for $500 or so.
Have them check your water and see what you need. Get a quote. then go price out the stuff yourself.
x2 I worked very breifly for a “Water Purification” company as a “water tester.” My job consisted of going to peoples homes, showing them how “bad” their water was compared to if they used my company’s system. My pay was commision based depending on how many people I sold a unit to. The company spent $250 making the units and sold them for $5000. I left shortly after starting because I felt like a dirty/lowlife person for working there, I felt like I was personally scamming people.
What do you do now ?
After that I worked in a sales position for a year before moving in to my position as a Legal/Compliance Analyst at a large asset recovery management firm. Simply put, I work for a debt collection agency; but the flexibility can’t be matched, PERIOD. I made a deal with my bossman when I started here, “If the fish are biting or the birds are flying I can take off to go fish and hunt.” The only stipulations are that someone from the department needs to be in the office during business hours while I’m out, and that I need to take my bossman fishing at least twice a year. Its a great deal if you can work it out. I went ice fishing 47 times in the three months of ice season this year, and have been open water fishing 19 times since January 1st. 66 days on the water in 4 months is pretty darn good considering I work a full-time job, and play in a band on the weekends.

May 3, 2013 at 8:08 pm #1168141I’ve been wondering this for a while, and down here it seems like people expect you to be late. A couple weeks ago I arrived at a meeting 15 minutes early, the sectretary made me feel like I was a terrible person for getting there early to go to the bathroom and get everything ready before the start-time of the meeting. When the big-wig showed up through the front door of the office(30 minutes late for the meeting) he nearly accused me of coming early to hit on his secretary. I told him she wasn’t my type, and I’m not in the business of wasting other people’s time. He flipped it into reverse real quick, and then apologized for being late. I had to forgive him because he openly admitted to being late because he had been fishing that morning and “couldn’t keep them off” his line. He smelled like bass and northern slime when he walked in so I had to beleive him. I wonder what his “normal” clients think when he comes in smelling like that.

Anyone know how Yellow Lake or the other area lakes look like in Burnett County?
I heard ice was off Clam Lake? Or was that just hearsay?
My Grandfather just came down from Siren this past weekend. He was saying he’d be ice fishing this week if his wife would let him. He said part of the flowage was open as of last week though.
May 2, 2013 at 2:31 pm #1167665IDO keeps me from going insane at work for the 10 months a year we don’t have ice. Thanks Much for the non-youtube videos.

April 22, 2013 at 1:45 pm #1164724I was in the same position as you last year. I had traditionally used my father’s Moss500, but last year moved further away with a landlord that allows guns on the property and decided I needed a work-horse gun so I didn’t have to go pick my dad’s up every time I wanted to shoot or hunt. I find the 500’s stock to be too think for my comfort, so I ended up getting an 870 Wingmaster. The Wingmaster is a solid gun, my father still uses his exclusively after 30+ years of abuse. The Wingmaster will last you, it has a sturdy build, and proven reliability. I’ve since gotten a new 870 Express, D!cks had the Express mismarked for $190, couldn’t pass that up with an extra $30 rebate from Remington. I use the Express when I know I’ll be shooting in rain, working pheasants without a dog through buckbrush, or know the gun will be getting really abused. I had a problem with the Express’s barrel consistently coming lose after 5-6 shots, took it to a buddy gunsmith who was able to fix the issue. My express shoots amazingly well; I call it the guillotine because it shot 100% headshots during its first duck and pheasant seasons (2012-2013). I’d recomend the Wingmaster, since it is a higher quality gun than the Express.
I like using pumps over semis because, I feel, the extra split second it takes me to reload allows/forces me to concentrate on keeping my bead on the second or third bird. I’ve shot both doubles and a triple using a pump gun.
April 18, 2013 at 7:56 pm #1163735Major flooding down here in the Chicagoland area. Took me an extra hour to get to work because I had to find myself a route that wasn’t flooded over. I need a truck. Hope you guys stay safe up there.
April 12, 2013 at 2:15 pm #1162015If using Paypal, make the buyer pay the fee, or have him select that the transaction is for personal use and have him put the ATV in the message. Like previously stated, make sure you transfer the money to you bank account before handing him the quad.

When was the last time a bad guy purchased a firearm that required he/she submit to a background check?
Virginia Tech Shooter purchased both weapons legally after passing computerized backround checks. None since then, and I don’t recall any other. Plus, the shooter should have been put on the restricted list, but the local magistrate failed to report the man as mentally incapacitated per federal statute after he found the shooter a danger to himself.
I do not support the new legislation, and actually know quite a few parents in Chicago with kids in CPS schools that completely support the NRAs position of putting an armed officer/security guard in every school.
April 10, 2013 at 5:29 pm #1161270If you’re looking to target them, I’d check out a couple European fishing websites for common techniques. Supposedly they get up to 44lbs. Just checked out a couple pictures on the web… They get pretty huge. Could you imagine catching a 40lbs walleye?
April 10, 2013 at 5:07 pm #1161262Already wrote both IL senators. Just remembered a couple things I left out, so its back to their websites.
April 10, 2013 at 2:54 pm #1161171Wouldn’t it be easier to be a parent and know where your kid is? I thought that was just part of the gig.
