    Hey Guys,
I have a small river boat that has a small 15hp, and a small transom mount Minnkota trolling motor. Has anyone used a single battery to start a small outboard and run a small trolling motor?

Trying to keep it as simple as possible as it doesn’t get used that often.

    Thanks!

A 5-color SWR, eh? Very interesting.

I have only used 2-color SWR’s before. Sounds worthwhile to try. I have also had increased success running really long leads – like 2-300 feet. Getting the baits far from the boat seems to help, but it sometimes makes deploying the lead/steel lines a PITA!

That’s what I found on Michigan too, tough to get bit most days unless you’re running crazy long rigger leads.

My catch rate continually increased the farther and deeper from the balls and boat, and five color SRW has proven to be the best reasonable solution and it’s less than 200′ away (counting the leader).

When re-deploying copper I drop the rigger balls 25-30′ off the bottom (so the spoons are almost kissing bottom), and deploy longer coppers (200’+) slowly in bursts (let out 50′, thumb it for 10 seconds, let out more, etc) so they don’t free-fall into the SWR.

I also don’t run a F/F too often on the SWR (when I do it’s only one), they can tangle easier than spoons, and I try to keep 15′ minimum vertical separation between the two SWR’s with booms swung out to get more horizontal separation.

As I mentioned before, my riggers used to be the slowest rods, and now they crush!

They’re as good and sometimes better than copper/dipsys/LC, the nice thing is you can put your bait exactly where you want it in the column, instead of a fixed number like Copper and LC. Run your balls 25-40′ higher than where you’re graphing fish.

Every guy that I’ve told to try it (and has) comes back with stories of success. I absolutely guarantee it will put a lot more fish in the box over a traditional rigger set-up, shorter SWR’s and beats long leads without LC.

If a guy doesn’t have 5 color setups with backer, letting out a 150′ lead, then attaching a 6-10oz snapweight, then letting out another 50′ of line before attaching to the release would improve catch rates as well.

Anything to get the bait below the ball and farther away will help!

Yeah, I have only ever ran 2 colors for the SWR, but may have to try adding a few more on at least one rod. I usually have my baits at least 175′ behind the rigger weights anyway. I know the action of that leadcore on the SWR seems to make a big difference vs. not having it.

    Thanks for the info B-man.

My plans are in for mid-July for 7 days out of Bailey’s Harbor.
Kings on the big lake side and jump over to the Bay a day or two for walleyes usually.
    Love that Door county area.

Call the county sheriff’s office. They should be able to give you the local CO’s cell phone number. Or maybe answer your question?
    Just a thought.

    good luck!

Definitely look to some form of 4 blade if you want a strong hole shot. I just went through the same thing on my 620fs. Went from a 3 blade 23p to a 4 blade 19p. Difference was remarkable.
Look at the rev4, q4 or bravo lt for starters. There are many other options as well.
I lost about 3 mph on top end and empty the boat is right at the rev limiter but it does not happen real often that I have an empty boat.

Good luck, may take a prop or two to tweak it to perfect.

What is current water temp roughly?
Planning to be on the east side end of week into weekend,
but the wind doesn’t look real friendly at this point. So guessing that will limit my options some.

    Thank you!

I have a 3 bow bimini from Amazon only 2 seasons old i would sell.
It has partial sides as well that zip on. You could make it work with your boat and set up the mounting however you prefer.
If you were interested I can send pics and get specific measurements.
New boat came with one so it is an extra currently.

Could mark plenty of fish but getting them to bite was a challenge. Pike were even a struggle as well as silver bass.
Bug hatch hadn’t started yet as of when we left, so no idea what the issue was. Was very strange.

I just came back from Devils lake Wednesday. It was not good. Tough bite all around. Bobbers were the best in the evening. And no one technique stood out. We pulled spinners. Threw cranks and corked.
Have some guide contacts and it wasn’t much better for them. One day 4 guide boats had 10 fish between them.
No idea why but it was the worst bite by far in all the trips I’ve made up there. We fished all over. Casino, grahams island, pelican slough, and Minnewaukan. Didn’t matter.
    Good luck.

Yeah. I will stick with my Yamaha. Haters gonna hate.
I expect it to be a dog loaded but when I have to tell someone to go to the front to pop it up. No way that is correct. I’m sure the original owner kept the prop that was best for his new rig, so I have to replace it.
Keep the reply’s coming. Have to get as much info as possible.
Facebook forum has provided some input as well, but the majority of people have said a 4 blade in either a 19 or 20 pitch seems to be popular.

Not sure on the top end RPM’s as it has been too rough each time out thus far to test it right. I think its about 6000 or just below though.

Made the trip with wife and kids about 4 years ago. Had no issues in Wolf Point as I needed to stop for gas, but yeah, not some place I would want to be stuck, that is for sure. We went mid-August, never been there before. Walleye fishing was slower, but the Laker bite in 80-110 feet on jigs, jigging raps and jigging spoons was epic. I just picked some deep humps at used the sonar, once you fired them up it was game on. 5-20lbs. Guides would come in with 2 from trolling, we had a cooler full each day. I would love to go back, but yeah, lodging isn’t the best for a family trip.

Yes,^^^^what he said above. The ones with the upside down loans are gonna be the ones to feel it the worst for sure. Oh well, correction necessary for some will help others.

I don’t think anyone said that a toy would “bankrupt” said people. They are just an item that is first to go “bye-Bye” for people who need to cut costs someplace in their budget. Staring at 15 year loan on a 2 year old boat that they have used 6 times tends to make the decision easy, even if the payment is only 200 dollars a month.
I have been casually looking lately again and lots of lightly used 2019-2020 rigs popping up for some friendlier prices than just 3 months ago.

Everyone has an opinion on what something is worth I guess, but ultimately the “need to” factor may come in to play on some good buys upcoming.

Which stuff off Amazon did you use? How did you glue it down? How did you cut it? Any additional info you care to share would be great. I’m strongly considering a knockoff product as 2k is steep

So if I store my boat in cold storage all winter do they have to be removed or can they stay in boat? My AGM I just fully charge and leave in boat disconnected. This is really the only dilemma holding me back from switching.

You for sure need at least 100 yards of backing on it. You let all the lead out and fish makes run when it hits, then what?
I would recommend a line counter for sure. Lead is all about repeating what’s working over and over and the line counter helps a lot. Can be done without but easier with.

I had my 2014 6.2 grenade at 68k miles. #5 cylinder. Tech wouldn’t admit to the AFM being the issue but the everyone else I talked to looked at all the pictures and says they told a different story.

Long story short I put a crate motor in it, and put in the tuner that Bearcat uses to delete the AFM and increase performance, and it has made world of difference. I have the 6 speed Trans and it has a clunk when it shift from 2nd-3rd sometimes that from what I can tell is common in that unit. The tuner chip has fixed the oil consumption, and the gas mileage is really no different, possibly better depending how hard I drive it. I like the truck, but all these motor horror stories really make me hesitant to own another one. Not a RAM person and don’t know that I will be. I tend to keep and take good care of them at least 10 years and don’t think those trucks are built for looking good after a decade.
I just got my wife a 22′ Nissan pathfinder and it has been good so far, (about a year old). The Nissan Titan will get a look when i update my pickup, as they still offer a full size bed in there XD model.

Personal preference I guess. But to me the birds or hard to navigate.

Side question though. Can I ask where the deal on the Live 12 is? Been in the market for one possibly to upgrade my Gen 3 unit.

Any idea which “brand” it would be or what the name on label is?
I haven’t seen an Amazon labeled one but that certainly doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

    Thanks again
