Any news on the 494 ramp? I’m looking forward to lamenting the loss of some favorite logs, finding new ones the hard way, and probably losing a jig or two on Saturday. Waconia was hovering around 80F so I’m leaving the metro muskies alone for a while and a fix of that sweet, sweet Pool2 air.
My reading of the regs is you can not harvest minnows from P2 unless you have a permit for a cast net to take gizzard Shad only.
Page 30 states it’s illegal to harvest minnows from infested waters unless the body of water is infested only with Milfoil. P2 is infested with more than milfoil.
I wanted to get some emerald shiners last year but after reading the regs did not net any.
“Within infested streams and rivers (except for the St. Louis River Estuary), bullhead,sucker, mooneye, goldeye, and freshwater drum may be taken by hook and line for personal use as bait on the same water. Harvested bait may not be transported live from the river or stream. ”
Seems like an arbitrary selection of species there. I wonder if the ones listed are less susceptible to VHS. If you can collect gizzard shad by net (with permit), why not by hook and line?
Noice! I catch several in the summer on figure 8s, at least when it comes to crankbaits. Crazy you saw that in the cold water period. Hoping to hit it this Saturday, let’s all try to remember to let our trailers drain in the river for a minute instead of rolling up the ramp right away – minimize the ice buildup.

Come July 1, anglers can legally use two lines during the open water season while fishing the Minnesota River downstream of the Granite Falls dam to Pool 2 on the Mississippi River.
This implies that you can use 2 lines only while on the Minnesota, not on the Mississippi.
It appears all the articles I’ve read are copy/pastes of eachother; does anyone know the bill number? Need to check the actual text to provide clarity.
