I really think the size has increased at Bellvue and talking to others last year on the water they seemed to agree also. Their reasoning was they couldn’t believe the size of the fish they were catching. I also had good luck last year the week after it opened and caught 5 walleyes and they all were between 22-25 inches and weighed about 5 lbs. Those fish may be 6-7 lbs this year hopefully.
On the other side of this topic there are several fisherman who don’t like the slot and closing of the dams because they say the fish are all taken out of the holes anyway two weeks after it opens back up. Good point also I think. We will never have a fishery like Redwing but decreasing the limit to 6 and adding slot limits can olny better the fishing in Iowa.March 14, 2006 at 7:16 pm #429893Thanks James. Heard you guys got dumped on up there. It won’t be long and we should see some warmer temps I hope. It would be alright if that darn wind would die down a little.
March 13, 2006 at 8:15 pm #429574Closed through Wednesday and open for fishing finally on Thursday. I will be one of the hundred boats there. I hope there isnt that many but Im sure there will be plenty..Good luck and should be fun weather permitting. There was a 40 % chance of snow on the forecast….
March 13, 2006 at 5:44 pm #429521Rain or shine I will be at Bellvue chasing some eyes for the opener………Thursday can get here soon enough but this cold weather is also good as I have the last week in March off and that might be perfect if the weather warms up after this week. The water temp was 38 degrees yesterday so Im sure it will drop after the weather we will have this week. Guttenberg is slow but u can catch fish……..
March 8, 2006 at 1:28 am #427668Thanks guys for all the help. Watch our walleyes, the motor is now spitting out water after running it in a garbage can………now the exhaust is just outragous………..but I hear thats normal………..thanks again for all the help guys and good luck on the water…..
March 7, 2006 at 8:19 pm #427540If there is no water coming out its unsafe to let the motor keep running isnt it. I dont want to ruin it just trying to wait for the water to warm up do I…
March 7, 2006 at 8:16 pm #427538Thanks guys for the help. I may not of had enough water in the tub as it only went over the vents barely.
Im taking to a marina and the guy was really nice and said he would put it in the tank and run it and see whats going on.
It sat in my garage for a month upright so maybe something is froze up in there…with walleye fishing right around the corner I need this or the 9.9 will have to do…..March 4, 2006 at 4:34 pm #426661Thanks, I agree with your post. You can catch fish but its tough and the size is very small at times….Did manage to catch a few nice ones for the pan…..Good luck and it can only get better…
February 23, 2006 at 7:17 pm #423764Does anyone use a tandome rapala set up(two on a line) while pulling three ways. Is that more effective than a single rapala? Whats your guys thoughts on that?
February 17, 2006 at 5:04 pm #421531My best producers are purple/chart tail,purple/white tail and oystershell…………Now it would just be nice to use them……..
April 30, 2005 at 2:37 am #360418Were they in deeper water because of the cold front. I was there monday and caught 6 nice ones and a few small ones fishing the banks with floats and a jig…..I imagine they have moved off the banks for now…
April 16, 2005 at 10:20 pm #357420Any luck today at Coralville. I fished below the dam and caught some nice ones from 1:00 to 3:30 today. Minnows and jigs is what they were caught on..
April 23, 2003 at 1:16 pm #264914The handicap dock is on the south arm. You need to access it by going through solon or coming from north liberty. If you come from solon you would take your first right before crossing the causeway. If you were coming from north liberty you would cross the causeway and take your first left. After turning on that road follow it west and you will run right into it. The point closest to it is also the point where they put all that rock in that stretches around 50-75 yards out. I still need to get you that map dont I. Things have been busy at work sorry. Let me know if I can help.
April 22, 2003 at 7:46 pm #264869Gianni, Where did u fish? Saturday was better because of the warmer weather but sunday was chilly in the morning. We fished by the handi cap dock.
April 16, 2003 at 6:37 pm #264335Coralville is still a little cold. They have been biting at mcbride. lots of little ones but good action at least. Look for brush in like 10ft of water.
April 14, 2003 at 3:34 am #264033Hey Redman, looks like if you would have taken the guide along you might have landed some fish. Hope you had a good time though. Got a new boat(LUND). Cant wait to show you.
April 11, 2003 at 12:34 pm #263851Wow, the big ones must have moved up because there had been nothing but small fish at Guttenberg and Bellvue lately. It’s good to see there are some decent fish roaming the iowa damms.
April 8, 2003 at 6:30 pm #263574ive noticed they use stingers in iowa at guttenberg and bellvue. they also like to use the lizards as well as worms. these arent ringworms though. they are 6 inch worms. the size of the fish is why they use stingers in iowa. i agree with james, you wont need one at redwing. they let you know their knocking at the door.
April 4, 2003 at 3:11 pm #263148I fished guttenberg on thurs and caught a lot of fish but all small. only a few nice ones caught. i would fish closer to home and probably barge it. boat control sucks in weather there predicting. good luck
April 4, 2003 at 3:05 pm #263147so there rate for the day is one price. how many people can go. i didnt think u could split the price though
