Do Small Mouth even taste good?

I have eaten a fair amount of them and think they are just fine. One thing I think bass special interests groups have been very successful in is the propaganda regarding bass being bad to eat.

I have taken dozens of people on camping trips where fish frys of walleyes and smallies were on the menu. Once they get put in shore lunch and hot oil literally nobody can tell the difference between fillets.

The smallies are much more annoying to clean than Mr. Walter though.

There are tons of lakes up the gunflint trail that you can catch lakers on. You can either rough it in the BWCA in a canoe or get a cabin on a motor lake, or both! Most of the outfitters up there have guides that work with them

I know it’s quite a hike for you, but Thrifty Outfitters inside Midwest Mountaineering will repair tent zippers. They are in Minneapolis.

Thanks for the responses. I learned the manual bail close in fishing 101 with dad years ago so that wasn’t the issue.

It was windy and I was using heavy lures so I had a lot of slack to reel up every cast. I’m guessing this lead to loops and soft spool problems. I’ll buy another spool and reel it under tension from now on.

    Wish me luck!

The Marcum Showdown troller would be about the best option in my opinion. Small, light, AA batteries, inexpensive, and it works great.

This is what I use. The bracket that comes with the performance pack attaches to the thwart with two zipties very nicely. I remove the unit/ducer from the bracket and store in a small waterproof box overnight. Transducer shoots right through the bottom of my kevlar canoe as long as I put a little water in the bottom. Have never ran out of 1 set of batteries after hard fishing for a week, but I always bring an extra set just in case.

I have caught exponentially more fish in the BWCA since I started bringing this. Perfect for finding dropoffs/humps that walleyes love to hang out on. It even picks up your jig and will show fish coming up to get it.
