My vote would be what I own. Honda pioneer 1000. They’re not the fastest, not the sportiest, but Honda reliability can not be beat in my opinion. 6 speed transmission, no belts to slip/break.
January 12, 2022 at 11:32 pm #2089460I made the mistake of renting a fish house from Lybacks a couple years ago. Fish house had no rattle reels, felt like we were going to fall through the floor of the house, house appeared to have been sitting in the same spot for quite a while, didn’t get a bite or even mark a fish in 3 days. I can’t get the wife and kids to even entertain the thought of trying a sleeper fish house again. They sure were quick to take my money though…
August 28, 2021 at 11:02 am #2057258I have the 24 volt. It’s super light and cuts smooth. It’ll last about half a day hole hoping. The 40 volt seems twice as heavy, but it certainly has more torque and the battery life is way better. If you drill 30 holes or less a day you’d love the 24. If you drill more than that you would want to buy the 40 or a second battery for the 24. I’m hoping to find a deal this fall on a second battery for my 24
October 1, 2020 at 9:16 pm #1976733I fish a lot of the same lakes that Tom Boley fishes. I’ve spent many days trying to put together a decent bite. Either I really suck or Tom Boley is a really good fisherman. Maybe both!?! I don’t know…. He is very good at understanding what his electronics are telling him. I’ve spent countless days on the same water he’s fishing. Every time I go home with my tail between my legs ready to sell every piece of fishing equipment I own. Not kidding
July 3, 2019 at 9:33 pm #1865835Got back from Big Winnie on Sunday. Ended up getting a few fish on Bena Bar and the old river channel off Tamarack point. But most all of our fish came off of Horseshoe bar. My boat caught close to 60 walleyes from 19-22.75. Only caught 4 fish under the slot and zero overs. Had a great time!!! Pretty tough to get fish to eat but I can’t complain about catching 20” plus walleyes all day. Rigging leeches was by far was the best technique. Seemed like they wanted a long snell. 8ft. Bright colored hooks on the snells seemed to help.
October 7, 2018 at 7:22 am #1801964If quality mapping is all you’re looking for, it needs to be a humminbird with a lakemaster chip. This is coming from a Garmin owner
June 19, 2018 at 7:26 pm #1781309Tons of boats in Pelican. We talked to a couple different groups that caught a bunch of walleyes trolling shad raps in 8’ and less. Our best method was bottom bouncers and spinners tipped with Gulp. The Gulp killer crawler outfished live crawlers and leeches. We never left West Bay
June 14, 2018 at 7:35 am #1780280I’m a mechanic. I’ve worked on every brand. Spend the money on a Honda. Yamaha and Suzuki are pretty good also. I wouldn’t consider any other brands. Just my opinion
November 30, 2017 at 9:03 pm #1731702I also own a Green Mountain Daniel Boone. I would definitely recommend it. It will add probably 10 minutes to your burgers or brats vs. propane but well worth it!
October 31, 2017 at 8:56 pm #1724492The quality of side view and sonar should be the same between the two?
October 25, 2017 at 7:20 pm #1723160Thank you everyone for your replies!! I’ve decided to give the 93sv a try. I’d love to have a Helix 10 Mega but the price is almost double of the Garmin. Hopefully I’ll be happy with my decision. Thanks again everyone!!
October 24, 2017 at 5:25 pm #1722928A good sonar, side imaging and mapping are my main concerns. This unit being quite a bit cheaper than a Helix 9 Mega or an Elite 9ti sounds like it’s worth a try. Does anyone know if my old lake master chip will work in this unit? It’s a Garmin lake master chip that I used to use in my handheld GPS. Thank you to everyone that replied!!
October 24, 2017 at 11:46 am #1722816Can I ask what you mean when you say downvu is not true down scan?
October 24, 2017 at 10:08 am #1722783Shefland is there a right or wrong transducer? Is there a better one than what comes with it?
November 14, 2016 at 10:10 am #1650522My opinion is the SHO. Although I have no personal experience, the reliability of a Yamaha is tough to beat. This is coming from a past Yamaha owner who now owns a Merc.
November 6, 2016 at 1:12 pm #1649011Scott Berberich construction, Tom Helget Construction or Cordes construction. All great guys. I know they’re all pretty busy though.
October 22, 2016 at 12:16 pm #1646365Thanks everyone for your input!! I think I’ve decided to pass on the Onix and see what the future brings. It has a lot more features than I really need. I think I’ll keep my eyes open for a helix 9 or 10 with the HD transducer. Thanks again everyone!
October 21, 2016 at 11:25 am #1646209Thank you for your input! This is exactly why I asked this question here, getting answers from people that know way more about it than I do and more than the people selling them in most cases.
October 7, 2016 at 11:23 am #1643719I have the hankook ATMs on my truck and my wife’s Yukon. I’m a mechanic, I’ve tried many different kinds of tires in our fleet. Michelins are the best tire out there but I could buy Hankooks twice for the cost of a set of Michelins. I have 55000 on the tires on my truck now, I think I’ll get another 10000 out of them. These tires need to be rotated. If you keep them rotated every 6000 or so miles you will not be disappointed with the Hankooks.
August 29, 2016 at 6:09 pm #1636532It could have been a Merc scan tool I guess…. I really don’t know. I did run the boat another time before taking it to Johns. Maybe that time the code stored.?.? Who knows… I’m good now, that’s all that concerns me for the rest of this week. Thanks again everyone!!
August 29, 2016 at 6:04 pm #1636530I only put 91 non-oxy in everything except my truck. But I just bought the boat, hopefully I’m good from here on out
August 29, 2016 at 5:05 pm #1636523Got the motor fixed today, ended up going to a different mechanic that apparently has an actual Merc scan tool. The first shop must have used a more generic scan tool. The problem ended up being the fuel hose going from the rear of the boat to the motor. It was deteriorated inside the hose which ended up plugging the fuel filters and wrecking the lift pump. If you’re ever in the Hayward area and need a Merc shop I highly recommend Johns Marine. I brought the boat to them at 8:30 this morning and had it back by 3:00, I should also mention they had the boat in and out of the water 4 times to finally find the problem. They also dropped the motor one hole because on their test drive they noticed that the prop would blow out too soon. I eventually need a different prop but I have to let the funds rebuild a little before that. Thanks everyone for your help, I still managed to salvage most of our vacation. Thanks again guys! Time for me to go put a bend in a rod!
