I have a 25 lb deckhand on my boat I bought this summer, since I am trolling or drifting 99% of the time I am in the boat, I have never used it. I would be willing to sell it if your looking for a deal, pm me. My boat is a 2010 so I’m assuming the deckhand is the same year.

Any of the Eskimos are great, built very well! Been through Frabills, Clams and others, and Eskimos by far has the best quality. I’ve got the Fatfish 949 and is very spacious. Look into Eskimos for Pop-Ups!

February 5, 2011 at 1:01 am #933907Lake Owen in Drummond is a great lake for smallies and the occasional eye. Also Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior has a abundance of jumbo smallies. Lake Owen has a campground on it called Twin Lakes campground in the Chequamegon National Forest, nice sites, launches and reasonable prices. Lake Superior is a 45 min drive from Drummond. Hope this helps
December 30, 2010 at 2:47 pm #920891Drove the wheelers out of Maiden Rock yesterday morn and had 12″ of ice all the way to the wisconsin side of the channel. Ended up fishin the middle of the channel sitting on 8″ of ice. Landed 12 sauger between 9 and 17″. Saw a few guys on the Mn side of the channel, maybe that was you Drew? I defeinately wont be fishing the channel for a while after this rain, but there are fish to be caught in shallower water on thicker ice All fish came on pimples tipped with minnow head and plain hook and minnow. Glad you made it home safe, happy huntin

May 14, 2010 at 11:21 pm #872187Last winter ice fishing on Pepin a Minnesota warden stopped by our shack and proceeded to write my cousin and I a warning for fishing with 3 lines. We are both from Wi, have Wi fishing licenses and we entered the lake from Wi. He said that we were on the “Minnesota” side of the lake and we were only allowed 2 lines apiece. When I got home I called Wisconsin’s Warden Peterson and he said that the Minnesota warden was wrong, since we are from Wi and held a Wi license, we go by the track to track rule. Sooo im still not really clear on the rule either!
January 23, 2010 at 8:00 pm #835447My uncle was able to pull him out. Only one tire wentr thru. The ice in the channel has rapidly gone to crap. wouldnt recommend driving out there. Out of the channel, ice on the Wisconsin side 18″ was the norm today.

looking forward to it Trav. have they already decided who won or will it be a viewer vote
Nope, the winners are goin to be announced on the last episode, the network is goin to tally the viewer votes that each team gains throughout the episodes, the team with the most votes will be the battle of the bow champions so hopefully we are in the running! Enjoy the show! TandersJanuary 12, 2010 at 1:21 am #421690I just built a 8×15 crank down shack very similar to the ice castle design 2×4 sidewall, tin roof, T1-11 siding so its fairly heavy and my jeep cherokee pulls it fine. Ive been drivin on 14 inches and havent gone through yet. I have to say that it beats the old quick fish big time. i love it very cozy. Hope this helps! Tanders
September 4, 2009 at 7:14 pm #802686Thanks guys for all the help! Yep we are headin to two lakes campground, hopefully the fish cooperate! TA

Are you being funny, those guys make sure you have fun or back you go. It took me at least a week to get back to normal. I’ll be in better shape next year so look out Huppert.
Yea totally jokin, those two are a RIOT to hang out with! It takes a good man to keep up to Huppert speed!!
June 7, 2009 at 3:05 am #782095Looks like a blast! It had to suck hangin out with Mitch and Mike all week though, those guys hate to have even a small amount of a good time!
May 30, 2009 at 12:43 am #780438I beleive the rule is “track to track” so if you are between the minnesota and Wisconsin train tracks either license is legit. Hope this helps, happy huntin TA
May 25, 2009 at 11:09 pm #779056Bass lake just north of Hudson, is filthy with those guys. They are hard to keep of my line while sunnie fishin. Its a good close, clean lake that isnt bad for the pannies either
May 1, 2009 at 1:51 pm #773020We pulled in Ashland last weekend, came home with about 35 pounds. We seemed to have caught the tail end of the run. Started pullin thursday night around 1am and pulled til sunrise with only a handful caught. Friday night things turned around with all of our catch coming before 2 am. We had a 50 foot and a 40 foot seine being pulled so we really had to work for what we caught. the run should be heating up in the Superior/Duluth area soon. Happy Huntin TA

Thanks for the heads up Tanders!!! You just motivated me to call the troops and fire up a road trip back to the homeland… Any suggestions on what we need for gear? I remember my dad smelting when I was a little guy. Waders, buckets, and what type of net? Headlamps of course. What time of night do the smelt usually run? Any technique involved? This should be a fun adventure to say the least…
Ted
What we use is a 40 foot seine net. You will want a net big enough to create a nice pocket behind you. If your net is too short the fish will skirt around and get out of the net. We have a 15 foot net that the wives pull, that only produces when the run is heavy. There are a few places that sell nets, Pamida is one, and the other that I know is Outdoor Allure bait shop in Washburn. You will need 2 poles to attatch to the end of the net, i use wooden closet rods from menards that work great. Other than that I bring LOTS of beer, some firewood, waders, coolers, lanterns all the basics. The smelt will run anytime during the night, my favorite time is between midnight and 3 or 4. There are some years when our coolers are full before midnight it all depends on the run. Good luck to ya, youll have a blast TA
April 13, 2009 at 10:20 pm #768100You could try the Bay City campground, at least then you would be on the good side of the river!
February 20, 2009 at 4:33 pm #750845Fleck, more times than not, in the channel on Pepin and Chequamegon Bay, I have one down the hole. Some pretty good current on both waters. Never had a problem. They will always be a part of my box.
February 20, 2009 at 4:18 pm #750834Garvi, im sure you wont be disappointed! Also that is a great price! Happy huntin
February 20, 2009 at 3:15 pm #750797Salmo makes a “chubby darter” that I use frequently for ice fishing eyes and trout. It is one of my favorite go to lures, with a unique action unlike a jiggin rap for example. Have not thrown the minnow, but if it produces like the darter I would not be afrraid to pick up a handfull.
February 17, 2009 at 12:09 am #749175Fished saturday out of maiden rock, ice conditions are fine. The channel had a good foot of ice and the bay had 16 to 20 the spots I checked. the landing is pretty iffy though, I wouldnt suggest driving a vehicle out. Wheeler would be fine there was at least a dozen out on sat. There is a shack in front of the Rush that didnt make it through the thaw, just the roof is sticking out of the ice . The Rush is always a tricky spot. Happy huntin
