I might have to get Tad a longer bump board for next year.
I did get a little nervous when I netted that guy, but we had an inch to go. Man, that 26″ was a toad!
Thank you, Mike, always a blast. My 4th time and finally in the mix.
14″ last Sunday is what I measured, but the ice has been shifting a lot. There are massive heaves across the north side and a second opening closer to shore this time.
I saw that rig Monday. It was nice to meet and chat with you, Steve. I rarely use the kicker on Pepin, to try and avoid the sheepies. 2.5-2.7mph keeps most sheephead off the lines. Lots of small saugers Monday, with a few keepers. We worked 12′ and less.
The big eddy I like to work below the 610 bridge has 6+” of ice, so I drilled some holes and worked it over for a while Thursday afternoon. The marcum showed some lookers but no takers.
Was out Sunday afternoon for a while. The wind was challenging but managed a few walleyes. Plenty of sheep and bass action. Still 66-67 degree water temp.
The October moon was much better for me last year. The river has been slower in general for me this year. I have spent a little time on the banks the last couple of nights under the moon. I have not caught a walleye, but have gotten some real nice smallies. My 2 biggest smallmouths of the summer have come in the last 2 nights. These long cool nights should get things rolling pretty fast now.
