I would agree on punching a partial hole. Clears the blades of any slush build up from the previous hole,

Then, keep it out of the snow…should help tremendously.

    Hiya!

I was up on the 31st out of Red Door. Started out deep on Resort flat for the morning (was fishing by 9:00 A.M. after the drive up from the cities) and managed one tulibee. Was an interesting process for that one. Followed my bait up to about 3 feet below the ice…it kept circling the bait, then finally turned and hit it. That was in 22 feet of water.

Decided to then move to the first break. Set up in 20 feet and managed a perch quickly, then only 2 17″ walleyes from there on. Enough activity to keep me watchful on the vexilar, but hits were just not happening. Day was getting colder as I stayed, finally left when the heater could not stay running anymore (2 brand new bottles of propane and 3 half-full…ran them all out).

Was hopeful for more fish hitting, but from where I set up, just didn’t happen.

I get into the habit of staying put and that is not very smart…but I was comfortable. -)

I went out of Red Door on Monday north end. Made it out a ways with the ATV and fished until 5:30. Started at 10:30 and didn’t have a hit until 1. Managed 4 fish total: 13″, 14″, 24″ and 18″

Marked lots of fish through the day, but they’d come up take a look and then back down. 3 of the 4 fish hit the dead stick minnow…just a fathead on a red hook.

Ice was decent throughout the area I was in… 10″ to 12″ of good solid ice.

For the number of fish that came on the vex, I was hoping for more hits… They just were not all that hungry. Tiny little flurry between 4 and 5, but nothing to write home about…

maybe get another trip up next week…

    Hiya,

Fished Saturday from around 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Managed to get 10 through the hole going 50/50 on jigging and dead stick. Missed a few as well and lost the best one right when I started packing up for the day.

Found many fish would hit and miss the jigging stick, then go immediately over to the dead stick.

Not fast by any means, but a good fun day with enough action to keep you attentive through the day.

Caught fish from 8″ long up to 22″ long.

I was off the north end of the lake in 23 feet of water on my own. Ice was 17.5″ thick where I was.

    Fun day on the water…

    Steve
