It won’t be available until November is what I am hearing. I agree, looks very intriguing. I run Lowrance graphs, and have always had my eye on the Ghost. But the issues with the direction arrow and the horrible remote have kept me running my Ultrex. I love the Ultrex, but having the ability to network with my HDS units, have cable like steering on a wireless pedal, awesome looking remote, and no Ghost-like direction arrow will have me looking hard at the Recon. My only gripe I can see is the somewhat messy FFS mounting, which requires another exposed cable and mount attachment. If they end up revamping the Ghost to use the Recon remote and control head, I will be in line to buy that one.

I’d recommend Tonka. More fishable water and more fish. Pondweed is up everywhere this time of year on Waconia and chokes out everything but the hardest of bottom and the mud. Tonka fish are much easier to catch and there are lots of them in there.

It won’t let me edit – new prices below.

    Predator 7’3” MHF – $285
    St. Croix 5S 7’2” MF – $285
    REVHS79L 7’6” – $190

Predator MHF – Great for big glide baits (#9 jigging rap, HR6 hyper rattle, #3 shiver minnows and big swimbaits (1/2 – 1+oz jig heads).

St. Croix 5S MF – Best #7 jigging rap rod I have used. Also great for rippin raps and snap jigging.

REVHS79L – Have used this model for casting and trolling crankbaits/jerkbaits for years and it is great for that. Also a great slip bobber rod.

Thorne Predator series are the best rods I have ever used.

100% agree. I switch up lengths/configurations often, which is the only reason I’m selling these.

I tend to stick to palette 1 or 5. I am really liking palette 5 more and more, it’s kind of an orange/amber color (at least on the new Pros with the HD ducer), and the fish really pop. I leave contrast in auto, and always dial it up until I feel it is a little washed out/hot, and then back off one or two clicks. 800 on the AI or 1075 on the HD requires contrast to be a few clicks higher than 455.

Elliots are in the $300 price range, but they are worth it. If you are going to splurge on one rod in your lineup, it should be your jig rod. They are probably the most well balanced rod I have ever put in my hands. Tons of options for pitching 1/4 – 3/8 oz jigs. I still like a bit shorter rod (~6’10”) for pitching. But it really depends on how/where you pitch. If you are making bomb cast across big sand/gravel flats, a longer rod like a 7’3” may be best. If you tend to make shorter casts/flips around weeds or very small, precise structure where accuracy is the game, that’s where a 6’9” or 6’10” really shines. If you get to Scheels, slap a 2500 or 3000 size reel on one of the Elliots. They almost feel lighter with a reel just because they are balanced so well.

I re-did all my electronics wiring like this –
-10 gauge wire connected straight to the battery, with a 25 amp breaker tied into the positive lead about 6″ from the battery.
-That 10 gauge wire ties into a blue seas fuse block I have mounted under my console. Both of my console graphs are wired directly to that block.
-From that block, I ran another 10 gauge lead up to my bow, where I have another blue seas block. Both bow graphs and Active Target module are wired to the bow panel.

All connections are done with marine grade, heat shrink connectors. My voltage readouts are 12.7 – 13.0 on all four graphs.

I had it mounted on a Lund and Ranger and have never had a rooster tail. I mounted it just low enough to get high speed readings from the 3in1. This mount has more vertical room than the stock mount, so you can really fine tune how high/low on the transom you mount it. Yes I can ship.

Three over 54 personally and have netted two others. Unfortunately the biggest one I have ever seen hooked came off a couple feet from the net. It was a legit 56-57″.

Tonka is more of a walleye ‘pack’ fishery, rather than a traditional walleye ‘school’ fishery. It is also more of a ‘spot’ fishery, rather than an ‘area’ fishery. What I mean by that is Tonka doesn’t have 40 acre rock reefs or two mile long sand flats – massive fishable areas. So, it typically doesn’t offer schools of 100 fish cruising big areas like that. But what it does have is massive weed flats, and weed flats always have food in them. You can view these as ‘areas’ that likely have more than 100 fish using them, but only a percentage of these flats are fishable, at least effectively. So, the fish tend to pack up in smaller groups – say three to six fish – and sit on very specific spots within that area. That may be a small rock pile in the weeds, an opening in the weeds, inside weed line, etc. It’s not a lake where you are going to sit on a point and jig or rig a breakline and fill a two man limit, at least not consistently. The key is to identify as many of these key spots as you can and be prepared to move around. Most spots will result in nothing, give these 10 minutes max and then move. Hit enough spots, and a few of them will produce 2-3 fish each on even a tough night. On the good nights, most spots produce and that is where you are on the way back to the landing two hours before dark, high fiving.
