When I was boat shopping I had the exact same needs in mind. I ended up getting a 2009 Ranger 1750 Reata and couldn’t be happier with the purchase. I found some deals on the 2008 models, but they were only rated for up to 130 hp so I held out for the ’09 with the Yamaha F150. Whether it’s bass in the slop, trolling kings on Lake Michigan, or a long river cruise with the family, I can honestly say that it’s the perfect boat for my needs.

Just heard back from Lowrance. Their chips don’t have river data.

Thanks for the heads up… I talked to a guy that’s used the Fishing Hotspots chip, he said it has great coverage of the river. I think I’ll give it a try.

Hey Chip, I’m shooting a 6×45… It’s a pretty decent shooter, fairly flat trajectory out to around 250, then I have to start using holdover. Most of my shots are inside of 200 so it works out pretty well. Good luck out there…

Congrats on the success! I always figure that the first challenge is calling them in, making the shot is the next one. Now that you’ve seen how it plays out you’ll find that it’s easier to replicate the same scenario, even in different conditions.

I couldn’t agree more with this… I’ve carried a knife since I was 10 and have driven back to the house to grab it if I forget to transfer it to my pocket. Some people have forgotten that knives are a tool and use these types of policies instead of common sense. I’ve opened packages for people, sharpened pencils, fixed eyeglasses, and a number of other useful tasks. When the need arises, it’s second nature…

Congrats on the new ride! I could see that as a very rewarding way to fish… I’ve been following the adventures of these guys a bit, sounds like a blast. Lake Michigan Kayak Fishing

I’ve been using the Sufix Seige in hi vis orange this year with good results. It seems to be holding up well and hasn’t given me any problems.

I’ve tried quite a few different rods and for the money, I think the Shimano Clarus is a great buy. I fish the 7′ medium, fast action, the 6’8″ medium xfast, and just bought a 6’6″ medium xfast this morning for $60.00. I can’t stand setups that are tip heavy and these rigs balance out well with the Daiwa Exceler 2000 or an equivalent spinning reel. I’ve been rebuilding my arsenal after having all of my gear stolen out of my garage last summer… I think the Clarus series has helped me get more for my $$$.
